Saints tease black and red brand announcement with new social media clip

SAINTS have teased a black and red brand announcement to take place on Thursday, July 31, with a new video on their social media accounts. The 15-second clip posted on X shows a black armchair inflating on a red background, with the Saints badge and the date 31/07/2025 later projected onto the seat. The retro-style video features a timer that starts at 20:01 and stops at 20:13, prompting questions from some curious supporters in response. Saints did a similar thing with their away kit, which turned out to be a reimagining of the yellow and blue shirt they wore between 1995 and 1997. Southampton donned a black and red away shirt during the 2001/02 Premier League season, and could serve as the foundation for their latest retro-inspired kit. The St Mary's side have also launched their new home kit, which is a reimagining of the white and red striped shirt first worn in 1976/77. Both the home and away kits feature new principal front-of-shirt sponsor P&O Cruises, who have replaced Rollbit ahead of the Championship season.

B.C. rescue organization for senior, special needs animals fundraising for new home

An animal rescue organization that takes in senior and special needs animals is now hoping for some help from the public. SANITS Rescue in Mission, B.C., has more than 100 animals, from dogs and cats to pigs, cows and goats who are all seniors with special needs. One of the residents is a 24-year-old blind horse named Annabelle. 'She had a painful condition in her eyes called uveitis and her owners knew it would be unfair to board a blind horse, so they were looking for a sanctuary for her,' Ali Schumann, SAINTS barn supervisor, told Global News. Most of the animals come to SAINTS for palliative care. 'She mapped things out,' Schumann said of Annabelle. 'She can walk any area that we have here that she's been introduced to. And she navigates it like a pro. She doesn't bump into anything. She can run through trees. She's amazing.' Story continues below advertisement For almost two decades, SAINTS has operated out of a small converted house, but a new home is on the horizon as the rescue organization has purchased a larger property in Maple Ridge. 'And more room for the animals so that they can have a better environment and we can just provide better lives for them, take better care of them.' 0:48 Dog named 'Three-Leg' rescued after being left behind in B.C. wildfire The non-profit relies entirely on donations and has launched a fundraising campaign to cover the relocation and construction. They have raised $830,000 so far, but they need more than $1 million. The move has not been scheduled yet as the animals need extra support during the transition. Story continues below advertisement 'There's definitely a lot of planning that's going to come into moving the animals,' Schumann said. 'They'll be moved within their social groups. There'll be a lot of thought in making sure that their routines stay exactly the same, that we use, especially when it comes to Annabelle, we'll be using like sensory items.' Sanctuary manager, Nathan Wagstaffe, said the work that they do is so important as it provides homes to animals when seemingly no one wants them. 'SAINTS is incredibly important in what we do and very specialized as well in what we do,' he said. 'We take animals that are unadoptable or have severe medical or challenges and we give them that support.'

Fernandes through to final eight of U21 Euros with Portugal

(Image: Stuart Martin) SAINTS midfielder Mateus Fernandes has progressed to the Under-21 European Championship with Portugal after they topped their group. Portugal pipped France to a first-place finish in Group C on goal difference following a 4-0 win over 10-man Georgia on Tuesday. Advertisement Fernandes played just 61 minutes in Trenčín, Slovakia, and was replaced minutes after seeing a yellow card with Portugal already 1-0 up. The 20 year old returned to the starting lineup after going unused in Portugal's 5-0 thumping of Poland on Saturday. Fernandes started in his country's opening game 0-0 draw with France, bossing the midfield and making more tackles than any other player. Portugal will face either Ukraine (four points), Netherlands (one point) or Finland (one point) in the quarter-final, with second-place in Group D to be decided on Wednesday afternoon.

Saints agree deal to make German youth international first signing of summer

SAINTS have agreed a deal for their first signing of the transfer window, with centre-back Joshua Quarshie set to join from Hoffenheim. The 20 year old defender has made 28 appearances in the second tier of German football, and stands at around six-foot five-inches tall. Hoffenheim's Quarshie spent last season on loan at Greuther Furth and clocked in the fastest sprint speed in 2. Bundesliga, at 37.04km/h - faster than Kamaladen Sulemana's record speed at the 2022 World Cup. The Daily Echo reported that Saints were close to completing the signing of an unnamed player from Germany earlier this week, and that player has been confirmed as Quarshie. 🚨🔴⚪️ Excl: Southampton agree deal to sign 20 year old centre back Joshua Quarshie to Southampton FC. €3.5m transfer fee to Hoffenheim, medical done. — Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) May 28, 2025 Fabrizio Romano added that Saints will pay a fee of around £3m for the German youth international, who has represented his country's under-20s on 11 occasions. Quarshie, contracted until 2027 at his current club, was also called up to Germany's under-21s in March but was left as an unused substitute. Two-footed Quarshie is considered a first team signing and will link up with Will Still's squad when Saints return for pre-season at the end of June. The summer transfer window opens officially on Sunday, June 1, before closing briefly on June 10 and reopening on June 16, until September 1. Former Hoffenheim head of scouting, Saints technical director Johannes Spors is overseeing the St Mary's side's transfers and recruitment. Asked about transfers in March, Spors told us: "I think players need to be physically strong. They need to be fast. They need to have some aggressiveness in their mentality." Spors is also set to hire Hoffenheim's youth squad planner, 36 year old Tim Lederer, who has worked with Quarshie, to be Saints head of scouting.
