J&K to prioritise movement of perishable goods on Srinagar Jammu highway during Yatra
Srinagar, July 2 (UNI) To ensure smooth movement of fruit and vegetable trucks during the Amarnath Yatra, the J&K administration has directed the Traffic Police to identify a five-kilometre stretch near the Navyug Tunnel for dedicated parking of such vehicles, enabling their priority passage along the Srinagar-Jammu highway. An advisory issued by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir said agriculture and horticulture sectors are critically important for the economy of J&K and the Union Territory administration is fully committed to facilitate the growers and extend every possible assistance in marketing the produce. The advisory said that Srinagar Jammu national highway (NH-44) being the lifeline of J&K, has an important role to play in this regard. 'Use of NH-44, by different class of users, is largely governed by the advisory issued by Traffic Police, which tries to accommodate every stakeholder. However, it has been reported that in view of the forthcoming SANJY (Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra)- 2025, onset of fresh fruit season, convey movement and the condition of NH-44, sufficient time slot is not getting allotted to this very important sector and as a result, downside movement of trucks carrying perishable goods is being hampered due to which the fruit growers/traders are facing inconvenience,' the advisory read. In order to address the concerns of fruit growers, the UT administration has decided that the vehicles or buses ferrying Yatris shall be given first preference for their hassle free movement along NH-44, followed by, vehicles carrying fruits and vegetables. 'Traffic Police should identify a stretch of about 05 Kms along NH-44, between Levdoora to Navyug Tunnel, which should be dedicated for parking of fruit/vegetable laden vehicles, so that their movement could be facilitated on priority. Other HMVs waiting to be released for their onward movement towards Jammu should be allowed to get parked only after Levdoora,' the advisory read. It added that fruit and vegetable growers are requested to load and timely park their vehicles, every morning before 9:00 AM at the designated place, so that traffic police could easily identify the vehicles and release them once SANJY related daily movement is over. The Divisional Commissioner asked the Department of Agriculture Production to frame and issue instructions to all the fruit and vegetable growers to paste plycards, hoarding or banner mentioning the item and the source of origin, so that fruit and vegetable laden vehicles are distinguished and their movement is accordingly facilitated 'Trucks carrying perishable goods will also be facilitated through Jawahar Tunnel or Mughal Road if they desire so,' the advisory said. The administration also directed that certain categories of vehicles returning to Jammu must exclusively use the Mughal Road between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM, starting July 2. The advisory applies to petrol, diesel, and LPG tankers, trucks carrying empty LPG cylinders, empty Food Corporation of India (FCI) vehicles, and all other loaded or empty vehicles up to 10 tyres. Akashvani Srinagar launches audio studio dedicated to Amarnath Yatra
The studio was formally inaugurated by Gurbinder Singh, Deputy Director General (Engineering) and Head of Office, Akashvani Srinagar. According to a statement issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the new facility has been set up to provide seamless and high-quality broadcast services to the 'yatris' (pilgrims) and listeners across the globe during the Yatra period. Srinagar, Jul 2 (PTI) Akashvani Srinagar inaugurated a state-of-the-art audio studio on Wednesday dedicated exclusively to the special transmission of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY). Singh termed the newly launched studio a 'technological leap' in pilgrimage broadcasting. The studio has been equipped with the latest audio technologies to ensure seamless and uninterrupted transmission for the benefit of the yatris and stakeholders. 'Our aim is to make the broadcast accessible not only on the ground but also globally,' he said. Singh said the broadcasts for SANJY 2025 will be available across several platforms, including 103.7 MHz FM, WAVES OTT Platform, DTH services, NewsonAir Android & iOS App, and Akashvani Aradhana Channel. Additionally, two special transmitters have been installed at Baltal and Pahalgam to ensure uninterrupted coverage along the trekking routes to the Holy Cave even in remote and high-altitude areas, he added. The special transmission will include devotional music, daily reports from all base camps and Yatra routes, special interviews, features, segments and informative capsules, Singh said. No helicopter service for Amarnath pilgrims this year: Shrine board
A day after the Jammu and Kashmir government declared the Amarnath Yatra routes as no-flying zones from July 1 to August 10, the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) on Wednesday announced that helicopter services would not be available for pilgrims this year. This is the first time that such a decision has been taken by the SASB in the backdrop of heightened security measures after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that triggered Operation Sindoor under which terrorist training camps were targeted in neighbouring Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. The announcement made by the SASB on its website read: 'The competent authority has in its order dated June 16, 2025, declared all routes of the Shri Amarnathji Yatra, including both the Pahalgam and Baltal axes, as a 'no flying zone' from July 1 to August 10, 2025. Consequently, helicopter services for pilgrim travel shall not be available in the yatra area during the Shri Amarnathji Yatra (SANJY,) 2025.' Following an order by lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha, the pilgrims should reach the cave shrine from both South Kashmir's Pahalgam and North Kashmir's Baltal routes on foot or by using ponies and palkis (palanquins), it added. The terror attack at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam had left 25 tourists and a local guide dead. India retaliated with Operation Sindoor. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India has only paused Operation Sindoor as terrorism will be treated as an act of war.

IGP Kashmir chairs security review meeting in Srinagar
Srinagar, May 21 (UNI) Inspector General of Police Kashmir, V.K Birdi, on Wednesday took stock of the arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra and Muharram during a high-level meeting in Srinagar. The annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY) will begin from July 3. At the onset of the meeting, the participating officers briefed the chair on the security arrangements planned for the smooth and peaceful conduct of Amarnath Yatra, Muharram, and other significant events, a police spokesman said. The officers shared valuable insights from past experiences, emphasizing the need for robust communication channels, seamless coordination among forces, and advanced real-time monitoring systems. Discussions focused on strengthening the existing security infrastructure, enhancing surveillance tactics, and optimizing personnel deployment at key locations. IGP Kashmir conducted a detailed review of the security framework and directed the officers to ensure the installation of CCTV cameras at all strategic locations. He emphasized the need for adequate manpower deployment at each camp and in sensitive areas to maintain a secure environment. IGP Birdi also stressed the importance of intelligence-driven operations, timely threat assessments, and proactive measures to mitigate potential risks, ensuring the safety of all participants.
