Photo: Screengrab (ANI) NEW DELHI: Manipur police and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) on Tuesday recovered 86 weapons and 974 ammunition in the hill state, which has in the past couple of years witnessed deadly ethnic conflict. In the joint operations, the forces seized grenades, IEDs, AK series & INSAS rifles, pistols, anti-riot guns and SBBL, in the areas of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur district, reported news agency ANI, citing the Office of Manipur DGP. — ANI (@ANI) On the night of July 3 and the early morning of July 4, in a similar operation, Manipur police recovered over 200 weapons during a massive search operation carried out across the state's hill districts. The raids are part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal arms and restore peace in the region. The police recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition in search operations, as law and order remain stable in the state. These operations are part of a broader crackdown launched by the Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, Army and Central Armed Police Forces. The six Arambai Tenggol members were involved in physically assaulting state police personnel during a bandh in Bishnupur district on June 9, a police statement said. Since ethnic violence broke out in the state in May 2023, Manipur has witnessed at least 260 deaths and is currently under President's rule. The strife between the Meitei and Kuki communities also rendered thousands of people homeless, forcing them to stay in relief camps.

Kohima (Nagaland) [India], May 16 (ANI): In a significant operational development near New Samtal village in Chandel district of Manipur, along the Indo-Myanmar Border (IMB), a patrol of the Assam Rifles was fired upon heavily by suspected cadres on 14 May 2025, a release from Ministry of Defence PRO, Manipur, Nagaland and South Arunachal said. The soldiers' response, demonstrating exceptional composure and combat readiness, were precise, measured, and calibrated. The operation resulted in the neutralisation of ten individuals in camouflage fatigues. Accordingly, a thorough combing operation of the area was carried out, wherein a significant cache of weapons, including seven AK-47 rifles, one RPG launcher, one M4 rifle and four single-barrel breech-loading (SBBL) rifles, ammunition and other war-like stores were recovered. Preliminary assessments suggest that the neutralised individuals were known for involvement in cross-border insurgent activity. Efforts are underway to confirm their identities. The situation along the IMB remains under heightened surveillance. Earlier, Assam Rifles, along with representatives of the Custom Preventive Force Department, Champhai, recovered 2.5 kg of heroin No. 4 worth Rs 17.54 crore from the general area of Kelkang, Champhai district on May 15, 2025. The recovered contraband has been handed over to the Custom Preventive Force Department, Champhai for further action. Assam Rifles tweeted on X, '#AssamRifles alongwith representatives of Custom Preventive Force Dept, Champhai recovered heroin No 4 weighing 2.5 kgs from general Area Kelkang, Champhai district on 15 May 2025. The recovered contraband has been handed over to Custom Preventive Force Dept, Champhai.' Meanwhile in January this year, Assam Rifles, recovered Heroin worth Rs 97.90 Lakhs and apprehended one individual in the general area of Zote, Champhai accused was identified as Laltanpuia (35), a resident of Tlangsam village, Champhai district. The entire consignment along with the apprehended individual was handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department, Champhai for further legal proceedings, added the statement. (ANI)
