St. Pauli conclude record sale of Philipp Treu to Freiburg

Sport Bild reports that transfer negotiations between two Bundesliga outfits swapping well over a month have finally wrapped. St. Pauli fullback Philipp Treu is now set to return to his former club SC Freiburg on a €5m deal. Treu – a Heidelberg native – came up through the Freiburg ranks and once featured for the SCF reserves in the 3. Liga. St. Pauli and Freiburg have both had an active summer transfer window. Interestingly enough, Treu will constitute the third transaction involving the two clubs. Hamburg's Kiezkicker opted to ship back Freiburg loanees Robert Wagner and Noah Weißhaupt earlier this month. Advertisement Treu's base-transfer-fee counts as a new record for St. Pauli. The sale, which could far exceed €5m via bonus payments, is the highest sum the Hamburg-based club have ever received for a player. Kicker – among others – reports that St. Pauli will utilize the proceeds to immediately finalize the purchase of recent FC Kaiserslautern standout Daisuke Yokota. The Japanese midfielder will serve as the Hanseatic club's eighth summer signing. Freiburg themselves have brought in four new summer additions, impressively concluding most of their targeted signings shortly after the Bundesliga campaign concluded in mid-May. The SCF front office then turned their attention to contract extensions. Exciting young Swiss prospect Johan Manzambi inked a new deal early last week. Shortly after that, it was time to reward club legend Vincenzo Grifo. Kicker reports that French talent Jordy Makengo will also extend this week. Advertisement 'There's no end in sight for Vince,' Freiburg sporting director Klemens Hartenbach said of Grifo on the occasion of the Pforzheim native's contract extension. 'He leads the way both on and off the pitch. It's not just his statistics that are important for the team. He also exudes confidence and composure, which is infectious and helps his teammates immensely. We want this to continue in the coming years.' 'When I came here in 2015, none of this was foreseeable,' one of Germany's most popular players himself added. 'Now it's my home. My heart lies in Freiburg. I've played 307 competitive games for SC. I'm doing very, very well here, both in terms of sport and privately. I want to continue on this path, play as many games as possible, help the young players, and also develop further personally.' SCF, PPAF enhance disaster preparedness in Thatta

HYDERABAD: In anticipation of potential heavy monsoon rains forecasted by the National and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities, the Sindh Community Foundation (SCF), in collaboration with the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF), has distributed emergency response kits to grassroots Village Organizations (VOs) in two union councils Bijoro and Gaarho under its Social Services and Climate Resilience Project. These union councils, situated in one of Sindh's most climate-vulnerable district, have repeatedly experienced floods; disasters to strengthen local disaster preparedness, SCF provided emergency response kits containing 19 essential items, which will be shared among 5 to 10 villages per UC. The kits aim to enhance communities' ability to respond rapidly and independently during crises. At the distribution ceremony, Javed Hussain, Executive Director of SCF, stated: 'Thatta has faced multiple climate shocks over the years. Without local preparedness, communities are left vulnerable. These efforts build the foundation for effective, community-led emergency response.' In addition to distributing kits, SCF has trained local residents through a tailored emergency preparedness module. Emergency response teams have been established in each participating village to ensure timely action during any disaster. K.B. Bhahrani, Additional Director of the Social Welfare Department in Thatta, commended SCF's leadership and commitment to grassroots resilience. Abdullah Khush, SCF Project Manager, added: 'Disaster preparedness cannot succeed without active community involvement. These efforts ensure that people are not only informed but also equipped.' This initiative showcases a shift toward proactive, community-based climate resilience. As extreme weather events become more frequent, localized, people-centered preparedness is key to reducing vulnerability and protecting lives. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025

Role of youth stressed to tackle climate challenges

A boat stranded on the shore of Thatta after a flood. As a consequence of climate change, frequency of floods has increased, forcing entire communities living in the coastal areas to uproot themselves. After every devastation, fishermen, along with their meagre belongings are left with little choice to move elsewhere in search of livelihood. PHOTO: JAHANZEB TAHIR (@jt76007) The four-day Youth Leadership for Climate Change workshop, commenced on June 24 at the Makli Ghunghat Khana in Thatta, brought together young climate leaders to address climate adaptation and environmental sustainability actions. The event organised by Sindh Community Foundation (SCF) under the Pakistan Youth Leadership Initiative (PYLI) and supported by the British Council Pakistan, sees participation from 34 young leaders including 11 young females, engaged in intensive sessions focusing on climate resilience, local adaptation strategies, and youth leadership development. Key feature of the event was the Youth-Led Action (YLA) Showcasing Event, where trained youth from earlier PYLI cycles presented their community-based climate models through interactive booths and discussions. On the third day of training a high-level delegation from the British Council including Helen Silvester, Regional Director, and James Hampson, Country Director Pakistan observed the ongoing training and interacted with youth climate leaders. The event was also attended by youth from climate-vulnerable coastal regions.
