BRS netas misleading farmers over irrigation projects: Telangana irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy
HYDERABAD: Irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday accused BRS leaders of deliberately attempting to create anxiety and confusion among farmers through vicious propaganda, as they are unable to accept the success of the Congress govt and farmers, who achieved record paddy production even without water from the Kaleshwaram project.
Former minister T Harish Rao, has made it a habit to spread falsehoods, Uttam said. During the Kharif and Rabi seasons, farmers recorded unprecedented paddy cultivation. The BRS is trying to mislead the farmers almost every crop season since the Congress came into power, he said.
Clarifying the situation regarding the Kalwakurthy project, Uttam stated that pumps are typically switched on towards the end of July or the beginning of August each year to supply water for Kharif crops.
The same procedure will be followed this year, and farmers should have no doubts.

He emphasised that decisions regarding the release of water from irrigation projects, and the quantity allocated to each ayacut, would be made by the govt at the appropriate time, based on farmers' needs and current water storage levels. The irrigation plan for each ayacut will be finalised during the SCIWAM (State Level Committee for Integrated Water Planning and Management) meeting scheduled for July 11.
The minister also alleged that the conspiracies behind Andhra Pradesh's illegal drawing of Krishna waters have now been exposed.
