Nissan to start shipping EVs from China in 2026

(Photo by Shizuka Tanabe) SHIZUKA TANABE GUANGZHOU, China -- Nissan Motor in 2026 will begin exporting electric vehicles from its plant in China to Southeast Asia, the Middle East and other markets, Nikkei has learned. The struggling Japanese automaker is reviewing its manufacturing operations around the world. It hopes to achieve a quick business turnaround by selling made-in-China EVs, which are competitive in price and performance, to many other markets.

COMAC's bid for Lao Airlines draws pushback over Chinese control
COMAC delivered a C909 regional aircraft to Lao Airlines earlier this year. (COMAC) KOSUKE INOUE, SHIZUKA TANABE and KEIICHI FURUKAWA BANGKOK/GUANGZHOU/TOKYO -- A bid by Chinese aircraft maker COMAC to purchase a majority stake in troubled flag carrier Lao Airlines has triggered a dispute over allowing China to expand its influence in Laos' transportation sector. COMAC, a state-owned enterprise, is discussing the deal with Laotian government. The aim is to reach an agreement by September.
