8yo Dalit girl's testimony leads to 30-yr jail for man in rape case

Agra: A 28-year-old man from Etah was sentenced to 30 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting an eight-year-old Dalit girl, a Class 3 student, after luring her with Rs 10 while she was collecting mangoes from an orchard near her home. The survivor's "detailed and consistent account" of the incident was instrumental in securing the conviction. According to additional district govt counsel (ADGC) Pradeep Gupta, the incident took place on June 2, 2018, but came to light five days later when the child complained of abdominal pain and disclosed the assault to her mother. A case was registered on June 7 under IPC sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation), along with relevant provisions of the Pocso Act and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. "Initially, the police filed a final report citing lack of evidence. However, the court took cognisance after the girl's mother submitted a protest petition. On Feb 2, 2019, the court deemed the allegations substantial and initiated trial proceedings," Gupta said. He added, "The convict, who worked as a cook in Manesar, Haryana, claimed he was falsely implicated due to a dispute with the girl's mother, but the child's testimony proved pivotal in countering his defence. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo A medical examination at Agra's SN Medical College further corroborated the charges." During the hearing, the man sought leniency, citing it as his first offence and pointing to his responsibilities toward his family, including two young children. However, the additional district and sessions judge, Sarika Goyal, rejected his plea and delivered its verdict on Tuesday, underlining the gravity of the offence and the strength of the evidence, particularly the survivor's statement. In addition to the jail term, the convict was fined Rs 1,05,000, which the court directed be paid to the girl's family for her rehabilitation. Failure to pay will result in an additional year of imprisonment.

Another Naag-Naagin Tale: UP Woman Kills Two Snakes After One Follows Husband To His Bed

Last Updated: Hours later, the family returned home from the hospital to find a second snake—likely female—beside the dead one. Fearing another attack, the wife acted swiftly and killed it In a dramatic turn of events that mirrors scenes from a Bollywood thriller, a bizarre tale of snake revenge has emerged from Alinagar Kenjra village in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad district. On Sunday, Shivam Nishad, son of Mahesh Nishad, accidentally stepped on a snake while working in the fields. Terrified, he rushed home. Villagers claim the snake followed him, entered his house, climbed onto his bed, and bit him thrice on his hand and leg. His wife, Gudiya killed the snake and rushed him to the nearest hospital as his condition quickly worsened. Hours later, when the family returned home, they were stunned to find a second snake—believed to be a female—curled up beside the dead one. Acting swiftly, Gudiya killed it, fearing another attack. She later said she wanted to ensure her husband's safety. However, Nishad's condition deteriorated again, and he was transferred to SN Medical College in Agra. The family even brought a photo of the snake to assist the doctors in providing accurate treatment. The sighting of the second snake has fueled speculation among locals, many of whom believe it was a case of revenge—echoing the mythical ' Naag-Nagin ' folklore often depicted in Indian films. The unusual sequence of events has left the village gripped with fear and fascination.

Pak minority migrants receive citizenship certificates in Jodhpur

Jodhpur: In a true celebration of World Refugee Day, Friday, 1,765 Pakistani minority migrants obtained their citizenship certificates in a two-day camp here Thursday and Friday. The distribution of these certificates was conducted by Directorate of Census Operations (Rajasthan) at SN Medical College auditorium, where immigrants staying in Jodhpur, Phalodi, Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Balotara districts were given citizenship certificates. Of these, 1,407 beneficiaries were from Jodhpur, while the remaining 358 beneficiaries belonged to other districts of the division. Hindu Singh Sodha, pesident of Lok Seemant Sangthan, said, this is the second major distribution drive after a similar five-day-long citizenship certificate distribution drive in January this year. "About 2,500 immigrants were given certificates of citizenship in January," said Sodha. Talking to TOI, Bishnu Charan Mallick, director (census operations) said, this was like a dream come true for these immigrants, who come to India with the sole purpose of settling down here for the rest of their lives, and citizenship is the only foundation for the realisation of this dream. "Now these people have got an identity here, which is a testament of their patience and perseverance," said Mallick. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Sodha said with the powers of citizenship delegated to the district collector, the citizenship issue should be expedited to clear huge backlog and more immigrants, who have been awaiting citizenship certificates well over the mandated residency in India, could get citizenship. Referring to the slow process of granting citizenship, Sodha said that only 2,329 certificates were given between 2016 and 2024. "There should be an institutional mechanism for citizenship, and those who are not yet eligible for citizenship or are awaiting the same despite being eligible should be granted the status of refugees, so that essential facilities could be provided to them," Sodha added.
