State govt approves Rs 286 crore for Prakasam Barrage desilting by CRDA

1 2 3 Vijayawada: The state government has given the green signal to the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) to take up desilting operations at Prakasam Barrage to excavate sand. The water resources department was advised to hand over the entire stretch on the foreshore of Prakasam Barrage to the CRDA for desilting operations. Curiously, the State government has also granted Rs 286 crore to the CRDA to carry out the desilting work. In fact, the CRDA should make money from desilted sand as it would be selling the stock to major construction companies. The CRDA could even pocket additional revenue by allowing private players to excavate sand and collect royalty and user charges. However, the state government granted a massive Rs 286 crore for the desilting operations. The government has not yet finalised the modalities for the sale of sand excavated from the Prakasam Barrage, which is crucial for recovering the money spent on digging operations. The Guntur district-level sand committee (DLSC) has permitted a private firm to sell sand at Rs 215 per tonne against Rs 66 per tonne, the price quoted by the firm while filing tenders. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Bring home all new SP125 & get an instant cashback up to ₹4000# Honda Learn More Undo Speculation is rife that local legislators were behind the DLSC's decision to permit the private player to sell at such a high price. The firm was originally contracted to undertake dredging operations in the Krishna River from Ibrahimpatnam in NTR district to Vaikuntapuram in Guntur district to facilitate the movement of punts. Punt operations are allowed to ferry people and goods vehicles through waterways between NTR and Guntur districts. The private firm that secured the bid was initially allowed to sell sand at Rs 66 per tonne after completing the dredging operations. Surprisingly, the DLSC revised the price to Rs 215 per tonne following pressure from ruling party leaders. Sources said the firm has been allowed to remove about 8 lakh metric tonnes of sand until next January. At Rs 66 per tonne, the firm would have earned around Rs 5 crore from the sale of 8 lakh metric tonnes of sand. With the DLSC granting permission to sell the stock at Rs 215 per tonne, the firm is likely to make around Rs 17 crore—almost 350 percent more than the initial quotation. In fact, the private firm is unlikely to sell the stock even at Rs. 215 per tonne due to huge demand for sand in and around the capital city following the increase in construction activity. Although it is mandatory to issue a waybill for each trip, the firm is reportedly transporting stock almost 24x7 in a massive number of vehicles. Sources said construction companies have been unable to question the high price. - GFX Sand Utilization - CRDA has been authorized to take up desilting work in the foreshore of Prakasam Barrage - Sand excavated from the barrage will be utilized for the capital city construction needs - CRDA has been asked to strictly comply with Supreme Court guidelines in desilting operations - CRDA should secure all requisite clearances from APPCB

Rain lashes western MP dists, city gets just 10mm

Indore: Even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued heavy rainfall alerts for western Madhya Pradesh, Indore received only light showers in the last 24 hours, disappointing residents hoping for significant relief from the dry spell. The city recorded just 10.4 mm of rainfall until Monday morning, with a minor 2.5 mm recorded by 5:30pm, bringing the total seasonal rainfall to 165.1 mm — still 94.4 mm below normal. Despite the subdued rainfall, conditions remained humid throughout the day. Relative humidity peaked at 97% in the morning and stayed at 87% in the evening. The maximum temperature dipped to 27.2 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal, while the minimum remained stable at 23.2 degrees Celsius. Winds gusted up to 41 kmph during the night on Sunday. In contrast, districts like Dewas and Ratlam reported heavy showers. Khategaon in Dewas district recorded 140 mm of rainfall on Sunday night, the highest single-day total this season. Other nearby areas such as Satwas (112 mm), Bagli (107 mm), and Kannod (79 mm) also witnessed heavy rain. In Ratlam, rainfall ranged from 73 mm to 108 mm in different tehsils, and steady showers since morning filled up local water bodies like Amrit Sagar Lake. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The all new SP125 that comes with advance technology & features Honda Learn More Undo However, it also led to waterlogging and disruption in low-lying areas. According to IMD Bhopal scientist Arun Sharma, a well-marked low-pressure system over northeast Rajasthan and northwest Madhya Pradesh, along with an active monsoon trough, is causing widespread rainfall. "Western MP districts like Ratlam, Mandsaur, and Neemuch will continue to receive heavy rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds on Tuesday. The activity will gradually shift eastwards from Wednesday," Sharma added. In Indore, overcast skies and forecast alerts failed to translate into significant rain, leaving residents concerned about the prolonged deficit as the core monsoon season progresses.

Anurag Kashyap claims Bhushan Kumar's music label T-Series did not pay him for 'Dev D': ‘They don't pay for the quality of music'

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has opened up about being significantly underpaid for the music in some of his most acclaimed films, including Dev D (2009) and Gangs of Wasseypur (2012). He blamed music giant T-Series and its head, Bhushan Kumar , for not offering fair compensation. Anurag Kashyap says T-Series never buy good music In an interview with The Juggernaut, Kashyap spoke about the commercial priorities of music labels, alleging that they invest in projects based solely on star power, rather than the artistic merit of the soundtrack. He remarked, 'The idea is not to cater to the market. If T-Series, Bhushan Kumar, is not buying it, then it is good music. T-Series doesn't buy good music at a good price (sic).' Accused Isaki Thevar of Vashi, who worked as a loan recovery agent, has been duping people through at least eight fake loan apps, police officers told TOI, adding that the apps have at least 10,000 complaints registered against them across the country as determined from the national cybercrime portal. As many as five laptops, seven SIM cards, and a mobile handset have been recovered from the possession of the accused. When she clicked on the link, the crooks gained access to her cellphone. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The all new SP125 that comes with advance technology & features Honda Learn More Undo They then told the woman that she had taken a loan of Rs5,400 from them and demanded that she return the sum. The woman ended up transferring Rs9,000 to different UPI IDs, but the crooks continued to ask for Rs15,000 more. They sent the woman her morphed photographs and threatened to share these with her relatives if she did not pay up. "When the woman did not give them more money, the crooks went ahead and shared her images with her relatives. She then approached the police to lodge a complaint," Nale told TOI. Assistant police inspector Pravin Swami of the cyber police said that when the police team took down the details of the loan app, it was revealed that it had been developed in Navi Mumbai. "Our team went to Mumbai last week and took Thevar into custody. When we checked his laptop, we found at least eight loan apps on it. There were at least 10,000 complaints about these apps from different parts of the country," Swami said. Swami added that their probe revealed Thevar was in contact with handlers from Singapore, for whom he developed these apps. "Thevar worked as a loan recovery agent and was aware of the process needed to run loan apps. He helped handlers obtain permissions to operate these apps by uploading fake documents, like forged permission letters from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)," the officer said. According to Swami, the handlers from Singapore used to send links about these apps to different cellphone numbers in the country and gain access to cellphones of victims who clicked on these links. "Thevar and other suspects involved in the crime used to morph photographs and blackmail victims," said Swami, adding, "The gang used Pakistani cellphone numbers to threaten people." The officer said that it appears the crooks have blackmailed and extorted money from several people all over India. "Our investigations are ongoing," he said. Swami also said the Pimpri Chinchwad cyber police have gotten all these fake loan apps deleted from a popular online store. "In the last few months, we have managed to get at least 20 fake loan apps deleted this way," Swami told TOI.
