Railway loco running staff stage protest seeking adequate rest
Members of SRMU Loco Running Staff (LRS) Wing staged a demonstration here on Tuesday pressing for better working conditions for locopilots and assistant locopilots.
Speaking on the occasion, Southern Railway Mazdoor Union division secretary J.M. Rafi complained that running staff working in goods trains were being subjected to longer working hours.
The administration should stick to the Railway Board's directive that the locopilots and ALPs should return to their headquarters within 48 hours. He also demanded to fill all the vacancies in the posts of running staff.
The running staff should be given 30 hours of rest every week. The running staff of passenger trains should not be made to bypass their headquarters.
The present crew link for express and passenger trains should be changed to ensure that they do not get night for more than two days a week in the interest of railway safety, said the union assistant divisional secretary V. Ramkumar.
Better quality of food in running rooms and early provision of mutual transfer for running staff were some of the other demands.
LRS wing divisional president Ravishankar and secretary Alaguraja were present.
