50 Cent pledges loyalty to Celtic FC and reveals plans to visit Parkhead ahead of TRNSMT gig

TRNSMT's Friday night headliner 50 Cent has revealed where his loyalties lie when it comes to Scottish football thanks to his good pal Gerard Butler who is a Celtic superfan. Celtic fans may have a huge R&B star cheering alongside them in the stands next season as rap icon 50 Cent has revealed his hopes of attending a game at Parkhead during his visit to Scotland. The New York born rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson is set to headline the 2025 TRNSMT festival in Glasgow Green this Friday on July 11. The 50-year-old has not performed in the city for almost ten years now, with his last Glasgow gig coming in November 2015 at the SSE Hydro. While putting on a brilliant show for his Scottish fans will likely be his priority, the hip hop legend also has another big reason for visiting thanks to his Hollywood actor pal and Celtic superfan Gerard Butler who has inspired him to experience the passion of a Hoops game in real life. ‌ Paisley born actor Butler and the Candy Shop rapper starred together in the 2018 blockbuster Den of Thieves and became good pals during filming. According to 50, the Scots actor's love for Celtic was impossible to ignore. ‌ According to SunSport, the rapper said: 'Man, Gerard is crazy about Celtic. I don't think I have ever met somebody more in love with their team. "We are going to watch a Celtic game together. That guy won't miss a game even when he's shooting. He must go up another level when he's actually at the stadium.' The rapper added: 'If I went to watch a game in Scotland, it would have to be Celtic. "He would never forgive me if I went to watch anybody else.' While 50 Cent has never publicly made his allegiance to any one team clear, he has previously dabbled in the sporting world. ‌ Join the Daily Record's WhatsApp community here an His company, Sire Spirits has has partnerships with a couple of high-profile American sports franchises. The 50-year-old has also been seen supporting the Houston Astros and famously sponsored a girls' under-14s football team in Cardiff, as claimed by Celts are Here. ‌ However, thanks to Butler's influence, it seems the rapper could perhaps become an active follower of Celtic FC. He of course would not be the first American celebrity to express a love for the green and white Hoops. ‌ Other big US stars including Snoop Dogg, Coolio, Lana Del Rey and actor Jon Hamm have all been tied to the club in the past. This being said, the depth of their support is often debated by diehard fans. When 50 Cent is planning to make his visit to Parkhead is not known as the next season will not have started yet whilst he is in Glasgow for TRNSMT this weekend so his trip with Butler will need to come at another time. With the Celts pushing for their 55th league title this year, the rapper could touch down on Scottish soil with the SPFL trophy wrapped up.

Josh Taylor eyes ‘big fights' after welterweight test against Ekow Essuman

Josh Taylor has said he is eyeing 'big fights' after his homecoming clash with Ekow Essuman this weekend, as he begins an 'assault' on the welterweight division. The Scottish star fights on home soil on Saturday as he takes on Essuman at Glasgow's SSE Hydro, in a must-win bout for the former undisputed champion. Taylor, 34, retained all four major belts at super-lightweight with a controversial decision against Jack Catterall in 2022, before vacating the WBC and IBF straps, being stripped of the WBA title, and losing the WBO gold to Teofimo Lopez. Taylor then fell to a defeat by Catterall in their rematch last May, meaning he is eyeing a return to winning ways on Saturday (24 May). 'It is great to be back here, and this has been my home since the Commonwealth Games,' Taylor said at a press conference on Thursday. 'I've had most of my big fights here – Viktor Postol, my first world title against Ivan Baranchyk. 'It has been a little while since I've been here, so I am looking to put on a big show on Saturday. Obviously training has been gruesome and hard, hard work, but it feels like I am at holiday camp this week. 'No dieting, cutting weight or drying out tonight, getting the last bit of water you can out of you. There is none of that this week, I am full of beans, full of energy with a spring in my step. I can't wait to get going on Saturday. 'I will get this journey rebooted and kickstarted again, take care of business on Saturday, do it in a good fashion and look forward to moving on to big fights in the future. 'At 140lb, what else was there left for me to do? I'd completed boxing in a sense and won every single belt you can win. What else was there for me in terms of challenges, setting new targets? There was nothing to do, so what there was was moving up with an assault on becoming a two-time, two-weight world champion. 'I am planning on taking this guy out on Saturday and that is what I'm going to do.' Essuman, 36, responded: 'I don't take offence to it, it is what it is. He's in my way, I'm in his way. Of course he believes it, he should. That is good; if he wants to try and end it early, it might be to his detriment. I came prepared for the best Josh Taylor there can be, so this is just confirming what I thought would come. 'It doesn't matter about being his backyard or if it was back in Nottingham or in London. I don't have a lot of shows I've boxed on in my home city, like big shows, so I am used to being the away fighter. It is just same job, different venue.'
