Marcos to study if legislated wage hike will result in layoffs — Palace

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. will study if a legislated wage hike would result in layoffs, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said Tuesday. ''Muli, pag-aaralan ito kung kakayanin ba talaga, kasi kung magdudulot naman ito ng lay-off dahil hindi kakayanin nung karamihan maliliit na mga negosyante, mas marami pong mahihirapang mga manggagawa dahil baka mawalan sila ng trabaho,'' Castro said at a briefing. (Again, he will study if this will result in layoffs if this can't be enforced by small businessmen, many workers might suffer as they may lose their jobs.) ''Kaya po itong lahat ng ito ay pag-aaralan, para sa ikabubuti po ng lahat,'' she added. (All of these will be studied for the benefit of all.) The proposed legislated minimum wage hike in the 19th Congress, which was pegged at P200 at the House and P100 in the Senate, did not pass into law because the two chambers of Congress failed to reconcile them on time. The bill then needs to be refiled in the 20th Congress. At least 1.2 million minimum wage earners in the National Capital Region (NCR) are set to receive higher salaries next month after the regional wage board approved a P50 increase in the daily minimum wage. The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has announced that the NCR Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) issued Wage Order No. 26, which grants a P50 wage hike. The National Wages and Productivity Commission said the wage hike is equivalent to an increase of P1,100 per month for a five-day workweek, and P1,300 for a six-day workweek. Under the new rate, non-agriculture workers will have a monthly take-home pay of about P15,247 to P18,216 for a five-day and six-day workweek, respectively, inclusive of mandatory social welfare benefits such as 13th month pay, service incentive leave, SSS, PhilHealth and Pag-IBIG. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News

SSS president meets Filipino community leaders in Qatar, announces loan rate cuts and new pension coverage

The head of the Philippines' Social Security System (SSS), President and CEO Robert De Claro, met with Filipino community leaders in Qatar to discuss new developments in the agency's programs, including reduced loan interest rates and expanded pension loan coverage. The townhall-style meeting, held at the Migrant Workers Office in Doha, drew around 50 leaders from various Filipino organizations across Qatar. It was organized by the SSS Doha Foreign Office and supported by the Philippine Embassy and the Migrant Workers Office. De Claro announced that the interest rate for SSS salary loans has been lowered from 10% to 8% annually. He also confirmed that, starting September 2025, the pension loan program will be extended to include survivor pensioners — a long-awaited move that aims to provide more financial support to qualified beneficiaries. The SSS chief reiterated the agency's commitment to enhancing programs for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), emphasizing that SSS is empowered by its charter to expand benefits and address the unique needs of members abroad. During the meeting, SSS Vice President for Benefits Administration Joy Villacorta presented an overview of the agency's services, which was followed by an open forum. The session also marked the official introduction of the SSS's new tagline: 'Sa SSS, Sigurado ang Bukas.' Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Mardomel Celo D. Melicor, who was also present, urged Filipino leaders to encourage their communities to contribute regularly to SSS. He emphasized two key points: the importance of starting contributions early to avoid regrets later, and the value of having a robust social security system that offers wide-ranging benefits. The delegation also included Atty. Jonathan Gary Jimenez and SSS VP for Management Services and Planning Colette Cordial. Labor Attaché Atty. Eduard Ferrer and Welfare Officer Luzviminda Tumaliuan represented the Migrant Workers Office.

Subsidised sex-sorted semen scheme to boost dairy prospects

VIZIANAGARAM: In a significant move to improve milk production by increasing the number of female calves, the Andhra Pradesh Livestock Development Agency (APLDA) is going to supply Sex Sorted Semen (SSS) at a 70% subsidy from July 1 to dairy farmers under the Accelerated Breed Improvement Programme (ABIP). 'Use of sex sorted semen will be a game changer not only for enhancing milk production but also limiting the stray cattle population,' Joint Director of Animal Husbandry, Dr YV Ramana, told TNIE. Conventional artificial insemination offers only a 50% chance of producing female calves, while sex-sorted semen raises that probability to over 90%. These high genetic merit calves also promise higher milk yields. Vizianagaram has about 3.06 lakh breedable livestock, of which nearly 60% go through heat cycles annually. The department conducts about 2.2 lakh inseminations a year, resulting in around 83,000 calves.

Sony Semiconductor Solutions Unveils Advanced CMOS Sensor for Mobile Devices, Delivering Superior Imaging and High Dynamic Range Even While Zooming

New Delhi [India], June 27: Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation (SSS) has announced the launch of the LYT-828, a new 50-megapixel*1 CMOS image sensor. Part of the LYTIA brand–a new lineup of mobile image sensors–the LYT-828 offers an impressive dynamic range of over 100 dB, effectively reducing blowout in bright areas while minimizing noise and blackout in darker regions. A successor to the LYT-818, this 1/1.28-type sensor is primarily designed for both main and sub-cameras in smartphones. While retaining the core features of its predecessor, it introduces the newly developed Hybrid Frame-HDR (HF-HDR) technology for enhanced image quality. HF-HDR is an advanced HDR solution that integrates multiple HDR techniques–combining traditional single-frame HDR using dual conversion gain (DCG) with multi-frame HDR that merges short-exposure frames and DCG data at the application processor stage. This fusion results in an industry-leading dynamic range of over 100dB among Sony Semiconductor Solutions' mobile CMOS sensors. The sensor effectively reduces highlight blowout in bright areas and minimizes blackout in dark scenes, producing visuals that more closely match human visual perception. Additionally, the integration of Loss-Less Exposure (LLE) technology allows greater flexibility in exposure control, optimizing light utilization and improving the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Notably, HF-HDR retains its full capabilities even during zoom, ensuring consistent high-quality imaging throughout. The LYT-828 also features a proprietary circuit developed by Sony Semiconductor Solutions (SSS) that efficiently converts the charge from photodiodes into voltage, significantly reducing random noise (RN). This allows for the capture of highly detailed images even in low-light environments, with minimal grain caused by noise. Additionally, the sensor is designed for lower power consumption, particularly within its logic circuits, enabling continuous HDR functionality–even during preview mode and video recording. As a result, users can shoot HDR images and videos that closely match what was displayed during the preview on their smartphone screens. New HDR technology that delivers over 100 dB of dynamic range performance HF-HDR is an advanced HDR technology that enhances dynamic range by combining composite data from single-frame HDR–captured using dual conversion gain at different gain levels–with short-exposure frames on the application processor at a later stage. This innovative approach significantly boosts dynamic range performance to over 100 dB, surpassing that of conventional HDR methods. The inclusion of Loss-Less Exposure (LLE) technology further enhances image quality by allowing greater flexibility in exposure control, leading to improved signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Notably, HF-HDR maintains its high dynamic range even during zoom operations by switching to full resolution, ensuring consistent, high-quality imaging even in scenes with strong contrast. Ultra-high conversion gain (UHCG) technology minimizes random noise in low light, enabling vivid imaging UHCG is a circuit technology that efficiently converts electrical charge to voltage, significantly reducing random noise and graininess in low-light conditions. This enhances image clarity and improves color gradation, ensuring better reproduction in dark environments. Low-power design for constant use of HDR Typically, showing HDR previews on a smartphone screen increases power consumption and can lead to device heating, which may limit the availability of HDR preview. However, this sensor is designed with low-power logic circuits, enabling continuous HDR functionality without overheating. As a result, users can preview images and videos in true HDR quality and capture them exactly as seen on screen, enhancing the overall shooting experience.
