India's Defence Secretary RK Singh indicated that India is seriously considering the option of purchasing fifth generation fighter aircraft to meet short-term needs. He said that such purchases from 'friendly countries' are being seen as a strategic option. This statement of the Defence Secretary comes at a time when Russian President Vladimir Putin is about to visit India. India is also building its own indigenous AMCA (Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft) fifth generation fighter aircraft, but it will take at least 8 to 10 years for it to be built and inducted into the Indian Air Force. What has US offered to India? Meanwhile, US has offered F-35 and Russia has offered SU-57 fifth generation fighter aircraft to India. It has not been disclosed yet whether India is currently eyeing the Russian Su-57 or the American F-35 . Moscow considers the SU-57 stealth fighter jet to be one of the most advanced fighter jets in the world. The Su-57 is a twin-engine multi-role stealth jet, equipped with supersonic speed, advanced avionics and electronic warfare capabilities. India has previously shown interest in this jet, but the deal could not move forward due to some technical and partnership disputes. Russian President Vladimir Putin is going to visit Delhi in September this year to attend the 'India-Russia Summit' held every year. Many defense experts believe that until the AMCA is ready to fly, an interim solution is urgently needed to balance the growing airpower of China and Pakistan. What Su-57 can give India? Platforms like Su-57 can give India this interim edge, especially if Russia shows flexibility on its transfer of technology or 'Make in India' provisions. Russia has offered to transfer the technology of the SU-57 fighter aircraft to India as well as hand over the source code. Russia has also offered India that if India buys SU-57, it will provide technological help in India's AMCA program. Why is fifth-generation fighter aircraft important? According to defense experts, choosing a fifth-generation fighter aircraft for countries like India has now become a question of not just technology but also strategy and geopolitics. In such a situation, India has only Russia's SU-57 and US F-35 Lightning II as the most prominent options. SU-57 is Russia's twin-engine stealth fighter known for supersonic speed, supermaneuverability and long-range missile attack capability. It has superior dogfighting capabilities and can play multi-roles, from air dominance to ground attack. On the other hand, F-35 is US single-engine stealth fighter known for network-centric warfare, sensor fusion and electronic warfare. Its stealth capabilities are considered to be more than SU-57, but its mobility is slightly limited. In terms of geo-politics, access to F-35 is limited only to close US allies, while Russia offers SU-57 on more open terms. So the question for India is whether it will lean towards the West for technological superiority or towards Russia for strategic independence? (Representational image) New Delhi: India's Defence Secretary R.K. Singh on Saturday, July 5 indicated that India is seriously considering the option of buying fifth generation fighter aircraft to meet short-term needs. This statement of the Defence Secretary is very important, and his statement has come at a time when Russian President Vladimir Putin is about to visit India. Which aircraft will India purchase? US F-47, China's J-35 or Russia's SU-57: Which is most powerful fighter jet and why?
US F-47, China's J-35 or Russia's SU-57: Which is most powerful fighter jet and why? Countries like US, Russia and China are making 5th and 6th generation fighter jets to strengthen their air forces. But is America's F-47 the most modern? Or are Russia's Su-57 and China's J-35A better than it? The F-47 is the US' proposed 6th generation stealth fighter jet, but it is still in the early stages of development and is expected to be operational by 2029. It is being built by Boeing under the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program. Here we compare the F-47 with Russia's Su-57 and China's J-35A to understand which is the most advanced fighter jet in the world. The F-47 is considered to be the successor of the F-22 Raptor. Boeing has been designing it since 2020. Its prototypes (X-planes) have flown in 2019 and 2022. It will be operational between 2025-2029. Its range of 1,000+ nautical miles makes it effective in regions like the Indo-Pacific. Reduction in radar and infrared signature makes it virtually invisible. The F-47 is designed with 2-5 companion combat aircraft (CCA) drones (YFQ-42, YFQ-44), making it a 'system of systems.' Digital design and open-systems architecture make it adaptable to future technologies. Su-57 is Russia's 5th generation stealth fighter jet, which was first flown in 2010. It has been included in the Russian Air Force since 2020. It has speed of Mach 2+ (about 2,470 km/h), it has supercruise capable and a range of 3,500 km (without additional tank), 4,500 km (with tank). The J-35A (an upgraded version of the Shenyang FC-31) is China's 5th generation stealth fighter jet, specially designed for the Navy. It was displayed at the 2024 Zhuhai Airshow. Its has a speed of Mach 1.8 (about 2200 km/h) and range of about 2,000 km. Export of J-35A to Pakistan is a threat to India as China has 300+ J-20 and J-35A. The F-47 is considered the world's most modern fighter jet due to its 6th generation technology, advanced stealth, long range and drone coordination. The Su-57 is superior in speed and supermaneuverability, but lacks in stealth. The J-35A is suitable for naval use, but lags behind in combat experience and engine power. India will have to consider jets like the F-47 or Su-57, as well as speeding up the AMCA.

Russia agrees to give Su-57 fighter jet source code to India then why is Modi govt not taking decision over it? Is there a China connection?
Home News Russia agrees to give Su-57 fighter jet source code to India then why is Modi govt not taking decision over it? Is there a China connection? Russia agrees to give Su-57 fighter jet source code to India then why is Modi govt not taking decision over it? Is there a China connection? The Russian defense company's offer to India to buy Su-57 fifth generation stealth fighter includes the source code, production license and full rights for local assembly. Russia agrees to give Su-57 fighter jet source code to India then why is Modi govt not taking decision over it? Is there a China connection Russia's state-owned defense company United Aircraft Corporation has announced that it will hand over 100 percent source code of the SU-57 fighter jet to the Indian Defense Ministry. Apart from this, the Russian company has said that after getting the source code, India will have full rights over the SU-57 and it can make any kind of modification in the fighter jet as per its wish, integrate any kind of indigenous weapon and make it fully operational as per its wish. Russia has also said that if India wants, it can also integrate weapons made in any third country in this fighter jet. Notably, France has almost refused to hand over the source code of the Rafale fighter aircraft to India. After which India is not able to integrate its indigenous missiles, such as Brahmos, in Rafale. That is why India has integrated Brahmos in the Russian origin fighter aircraft Su-30Mki. Whereas India wants to install indigenous weapons in the state-of-the-art aircraft Rafale, so that India's attacking capability increases tremendously. However, India is yet to decide on the offer. The source code of fifth generation fighter jets is considered extremely sensitive. This is because, firstly, these are the most advanced fighter jets and more importantly, this opens the way for making sixth generation fighter jets. In fifth generation fighter jets, software is a much more central part of their capabilities. This is why the US F-35 has more than 10 million lines of software code and the Chinese J-20 and FC-31 are also estimated to have similar extremely difficult code. Although the code of the Su-57 is considered slightly easier than these, it is still much more complex than the old American F-22. For this reason, if Russia is offering to hand over the complete software code of the fifth generation fighter jet, then this is an unprecedented event. This decision also shows how much Russia trusts India as a strategic partner. For breaking news and live news updates, like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter and Instagram.
