(JBPM pic) PETALING JAYA : An early morning fire destroyed 21 houses, a restaurant and a temple at Bagan Pasir Laut in Hutan Melintang, Perak, today. Perak fire and rescue department assistant operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said no casualties were reported, according to Bernama. He said the department received a distress call at about 4.50am, and the first fire engine arrived at the scene about 12 minutes later. 'Two fire engines from the Hutan Melintang and Teluk Intan fire and rescue stations, along with the Bagan Tiang volunteer fire brigade, were deployed to the scene. 'When the team arrived, seven houses were already ablaze. The fire spread rapidly because of the proximity of the houses,' he said. Sabarodzi said the firefighters were hampered by low water pressure from fire hydrants and the risk of electrical arcing from active power cables in the area. 'The blaze was brought under control by 7.30am, and the firefighters managed to save 129 other houses nearby. 'An investigations is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, as well as the extent of destruction and losses,' he said.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 — Twenty-one houses, a temple and a food stall were destroyed in a fire that broke out in Bagan Pasir Laut, Hutan Melintang, early this morning. According to Utusan Malaysia, Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Assistant Operations Director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received a distress call at 4.52am. A team from the Hutan Melintang Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene, assisted by personnel from the Teluk Intan station and the Sungai Tiang Volunteer Fire Brigade. 'The fire spread quickly due to the close proximity of the houses and low water pressure from the hydrants,' he reportedly said. The blaze was brought under control by 7.30am. No casualties or injuries were reported. 'As of now, operations are ongoing to ensure there are no remaining embers that could reignite the fire,' he added.

Elderly man killed, two injured in car-lorry crash on East-West Highway

IPOH: A tragic accident on the Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway today claimed the life of an elderly man and left two others injured after their car collided with a 10-tonne lorry. The incident occurred near the Banjaran Titiwangsa Rest and Service Area (R&R). The Perak Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 1.02 pm, prompting immediate deployment of a fire engine from the Gerik Fire and Rescue Station. The team arrived at the scene, approximately 70 kilometres away, by 2.11 pm. Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, assistant director of operations for the Perak Fire and Rescue Department, confirmed the fatality. 'The deceased, a man in his 70s, was pinned in the front passenger side of a Proton Persona car. The driver and rear passenger sustained minor injuries,' he said in a statement. The injured victims were transported to Gerik Hospital for treatment, while the body of the deceased was handed over to the police for further investigation. Authorities have yet to release details on the cause of the crash.

Perak fire and rescue department operations division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said an emergency call was received at about 12.20pm, and eight firefighters were dispatched to the scene. The team found that a 20-year-old woman had fallen from the air conditioner compressor area of the rear balcony on the seventh floor to a ledge on the second floor, Bernama quoted him as saying in a statement. He said she suffered a fractured right thigh and multiple lacerations.

IPOH: A man was killed in a four-vehicle crash in Kampung Merbau Tua, Jalan Baling-Kuala Kangsar, near Kuala Kangsar this afternoon. Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the victim had been identified as Megat Muhammad Ikram Megd Adeni, 33, from Kampung Luat, Lenggong. He said the department received a call regarding the crash at 1.32pm firefighters from the Kuala Kangsar fire and rescue station arrived at the crash site seven minutes later. He said the accident involved the Proton Waja driven by Megat Muhammad Ikram, who was travelling from Kuala Kangsar towards Baling, Kedah, which is believed to have collided head-on with a two-tonne Daihatsu lorry. "According to information from the public, the accident also involved two other vehicles, a Honda car and a Toyota Hilux," he said in a statement today. He said the lorry driver and his assistant sustained minor injuries, while the woman driving the Honda car was unharmed. However, the condition of the Toyota Hilux driver, who is believed to have proceeded to the nearest police station after the crash, remains unknown. He said Megat Muhammad Ikram was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was handed over to the police. Sabarodzi said the injured victims were taken to the hospital for treatment. The operation ended at 2.50pm. – Bernama
