Emergency was blot on democratic history of nation: Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 26 (ANI): On the occasion of the completion of 50 years since the imposition of the Emergency in the country, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, during the 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' programme, clearly stated that the Emergency was a blot on the democratic history of the nation. Recalling the 'serious assault' made by the then government and the Prime Minister on the values of the Constitution, the Chief Minister said that Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas is observed so that the present and future generations of the nation remain aware of this dark chapter and awaken a sense of pride and dignity towards the Constitution. CM Patel highlighted that during the Emergency years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi disguised himself to fight for the Constitution and democratic values. He pointed out that the then government compromised the Constitution for governance purposes. CM emphasised that the Prime Minister places the Constitution and national interest above all, showcasing profound respect for it to the nation and the world. The Chief Minister said that while the Emergency was imposed when the Constitution completed 25 years, diminishing its glory, on the 60th anniversary of the Constitution, PM Modi, as the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, honoured it through a Samvidhaan Gaurav Yatra with the Constitution placed atop a royal elephant. The Chief Minister reiterated his commitment to upholding the Constitution's spirit--'We the People'--to build Viksit Bharat under the Prime Minister's leadership. This will be achieved through 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas.' The Prime Minister has enacted significant reforms, such as the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, abolishing Triple Talaq, and the Citizenship Amendment Act, while respecting constitutional values. He has also protected citizens' interests by abrogating Articles 35A and 370 to build Akhand Bharat. The Chief Minister emphasised his role in safeguarding the Constitution for the nation's benefit. Law and Judiciary Minister Rushikesh Patel, calling the citizens the guardians of democracy, stated that to ensure India, governed by democratic principles, never strays towards dictatorship, it is essential for citizens to remain aware of their fundamental rights. 'In the past, the then government imposed the Emergency and snatched away these rights. Therefore, under the guidance of PM Modi, the Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas-2025 programme is being organised across the country to raise public awareness so that today's youth can learn from this event and such a grave mistake is never repeated,' he said. The minister elaborated on the idea behind celebrating Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas, stating that as per the Indian Constitution, citizens are entitled to several fundamental rights from birth, including freedom of speech and expression. In the past, on this very day--at midnight on June 25, 1975--the then government misused Article 352 of the Constitution to impose Emergency in the country in order to maintain its dominance and grip on power. During the Emergency, fundamental constitutional rights of citizens were taken away, and both democracy and the Constitution were attacked. Today marks the completion of 50 years of that disgraceful incident. The day is being commemorated as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' to raise public awareness about it. During the event, retired judge of the Gujarat High Court and legal expert Ravikumar Tripathi provided detailed insights on the Indian Constitution, the fundamental rights enshrined in it, amendments made to it in the past, misuse of various constitutional provisions, and the imposition of Emergency in 1975. He also sensitised the citizens about their constitutional rights. Additionally, Commissioner of Youth Services and Cultural Activities Department Alok Kumar Pandey extended a formal welcome and presented a holistic overview of the event at the start of the programme. The Chief Minister, along with dignitaries and citizens, watched a documentary and a play about the Emergency. The programme was attended by Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation Mayor Miraben Patel, Gandhinagar North MLA Rita Patel, Secretary of the Parliamentary and Legal Affairs Department K M Lala, Gandhinagar District Collector, M K Dave, Gandhinagar District Development Officer, B J Patel, as well as various officials of the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation, government officers and employees, and a large number of citizens. Bihar would not forget insult: PM Modi slams RJD over Ambedkar portrait insult
PATNA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a blistering attack on RJD chief Lalu Prasad after a portrait of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar was purportedly seen placed near someone's feet. Modi said the people of Bihar would never forget such an insult to the Dalit icon. 'RJD and Congress keep Baba Saheb at their feet, I keep him in my heart,' Modi remarked, lashing out at Lalu Prasad without directly naming him, during a public meeting held at Jasauli in Siwan district. 'The entire country has seen how RJD behaved with the portrait of Baba Saheb. Posters have been put up asking them to apologise for insulting him, but I know they never will, because they have no respect for Dalits and the extremely backward class. By insulting Ambedkar, they want to show they are bigger than him in stature,' he added. Modi continued his scathing criticism by drawing a contrast between his government and the opposition. 'I emphasise Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, but for RJD and Congress, it is only Parivar Ka Saath, Parivar Ka Vikas,' he said, while launching and laying foundation stones for various projects.

11 years of Digital India : Tech turned into a tool to empower the lives of poor says PM
New Delhi: Besides the 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' pledge, the goal and vision of achieving 'Digital India' is beginning to realise as this forms the core of governance of the incumbent dispensation. The digital revolution, which began 11 years ago, is entrenched in almost every policy-making and public welfare scheme delivery with elaborate plans on how to bring benefits to the poor, downtrodden and marginalised sections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to the social media platform X on Thursday and wrote about "leveraging the power of technology in bringing innumerable benefits for people". "Service delivery and transparency have been greatly boosted. Technology has become a means of empowering the lives of the poorest of the poor," he further said. The Digital India initiative, launched by PM Modi in his first term, has gone on to reshape the way the country has grown and developed in the past decade. The governance has become transparent and accessible for every citizen, while it has also unlocked massive opportunities for the common citizen. Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) marks one of the biggest hallmarks of the Modi government as it ensured seamless and leakage-free delivery of public welfare funds and schemes to crores of poor households. Today, the villages have access to internet services, while the digital payment system is also reaching the rural belts. Today, there are more than 322 schemes across 56 ministries covered under the DBT. More than Rs 44 lakh crore has been transferred directly into the accounts of beneficiaries, while Rs 3.48 lakh crore has been saved by cutting out leakages and preventing middlemen. In the past ten years, there has been a 90-fold increase in DBT transfers, marking a new era of public welfare delivery, laced with speed and transparency. Aadhaar – a unique identity of every citizen is powering the country's digital identity revolution. Today, every citizen of the 140-crore population has a unique 12-digit Aadhaar number. Aadhaar authentication transactions have crossed 150 billion mark. DigiLocker, an application that facilitates document storage online, has given strong impetus to paperless governance. As per official estimates, there are more than 52 crore registered Digilocker users in the country, with over 852 crore documents issued. Under the Jeevan Pramaan yojana, technology was harnessed to bring dignity to human lives. Jeevan Praman Patra has simplified life for pensioners by providing hassle-free digital life certificates. Today, more than 10 crore pensioners are registered, which means they no longer need to visit banks for giving "life certificates" in person. More than 143 lakh 'Digital Life Certificates' have been submitted since November 2024. UMANG App has been instrumental in converging all government services on one platform. It has become a single digital gateway for accessing more than 2,000 services across various government departments. As per records, there are over 8.21 crore registered users, with over 597 crore transactions.

Delhi Cabinet Approves Ordinance to Regulate Private School Fees
New Delhi: In a significant move aimed at protecting parents from arbitrary fee hikes, the Delhi Cabinet on Monday approved the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Ordinance, 2025. The decision was taken during the government's 8th cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat. Announcing the decision at a press conference, Delhi's Education Minister Ashish Sood said the ordinance is designed to rein in exploitative fee collection practices by private schools and bring long-awaited financial relief to parents. 'In the last 100 days, every cabinet meeting under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's leadership has resulted in key decisions in public interest,' Sood stated. 'Today's approval is a major step towards ensuring transparency and fairness in school fee structures.' The ordinance, once enacted, will prohibit private schools from arbitrarily increasing fees and is expected to directly impact over 1,600 private schools in the capital. It will take effect retroactively from April 1, 2025, following the President's assent. This means parents who were compelled to pay steep fees earlier this academic year may be eligible for relief. Sood added that the ordinance will be sent to the Lieutenant Governor, who will forward it to the President of India for approval. 'This is a historic day for Delhi's middle-class families,' said Sood. 'For years, under the previous AAP government, parents were burdened by unchecked fee hikes. The BJP government is now taking a decisive step to end this injustice.' He also highlighted that this is the first major education-related legislative initiative by a BJP-led government in Delhi in nearly three decades. Framing the move as part of the broader vision of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,' Sood emphasized the government's commitment to transparent and citizen-centric enacted, the ordinance will serve as a regulatory framework for Delhi's 1,677 private schools, ensuring that fee hikes are justified, accountable, and in line with parents' expectations.
