Kuki chiefs' org bans govt activities in Kangpokpi dist
Imphal: The Sadar Hills Chiefs' Association (SAHILCA) on Thursday announced a complete ban on all govt-initiated activities and programmes in Kuki-Zo inhabited areas of Kangpokpi district, further deepening the ethnic tension in Manipur.
In a press statement, SAHILCA declared a "complete ban on all activities undertaken by the forest department of the govt of Manipur within the district" and instructed the department to immediately halt all operations in the region.
Furthermore, SAHILCA said they will oppose any govt programmes or initiatives in Kuki-Zo areas of Kangpokpi, adding that such activities should not resume until the conflict is peacefully resolved.
The association stressed the critical need to maintain peace and avoid any actions that could worsen existing tensions in the region.
To enforce this ban, SAHILCA has explicitly instructed the deputy commissioner and sub-divisional officers not to carry out the state govt's flagship, "Go to Hills" and "Go to Villages" programmes in the affected areas, until further notice. This move highlights the growing discontent among Kuki-Zo communities toward the state's handling of the ongoing conflict.
