Pink toilets to be installed in market areas of Lutyens' Delhi
New Delhi: At least 37 markets in Lutyens' Delhi will get pink toilets, said New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) members on Wednesday, adding that there was a long-standing demand from visitors. At present, six pink toilets — constructed by the civic body — are there on LIC Parliament Street, Super Bazaar Outer Circle, Dharamshala near Safdarjung Hospital, Factory Road near Safdarjung Hospital, B Avenue Sarojini Nagar and B Block in CP. NDMC member Sarita Tomar said that the pink toilets will be facilities with separate staff and maintenance systems. "These facilities will have a woman sanitation worker and a women security guard to ensure safety, hygiene and dignity. The pink toilets would have sanitary napkin vending machines, baby care spaces and clean drinking water. These would be in addition to the provision of women's toilets usually made at other public places," she said. The project for the construction of pink toilets would be taken up in addition to 79 toilets under construction for transgender individuals in Lutyens' Delhi. A plan for the holistic development of Sewa Basti and the upgrade of civic services at religious places will also be prepared and presented before the council soon. It was decided that a committee will be formed under section 3 of NDMC Act for surveying major temples and coordinating with stakeholders for enhancing lighting, pathways and overall aesthetics at these places. Delhi govt minister and ex-officio member Pravesh Verma emphasised the requirement for comprehensive civic maintenance at religious sites. "A committee for temple beautification and development will be formed to check the availability of adequate water supply, ensuring timely civil repairs, regular cleaning, horticulture maintenance, lighting, and security of devotees. The committee will survey major temples in the NDMC region and coordinate with stakeholders to implement work without disrupting religious activities," Verma said. NDMC has recently done a revamp at the Hamunan Mandir in Connaught Place. He also stressed on strengthening basic services in JJ clusters (Seva Bastis) that focus on sanitation, garbage collection, water availability, street lighting and footpath repair, and integrating them into the mainstream development plans. "The council earlier worked on a project to provide water to each jhuggi cluster under the Har Ghar Jal scheme, and now we are going a step ahead to improve the condition of these places in terms of sanitation services," said NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Chahal.

Man held for killing 27-year-old in hit-and-run in south Delhi
The Delhi Police arrested a man on Friday for killing a 27-year-old man in a hit-and-run in Vasant Kunj, south Delhi on June 7, officers said on Saturday. Police said that the car was identified as a Renault Triber, and its owner told them that her driver was alone in the car when the accident took place. The victim was identified as Ashish Kumar. The accused was identified as Jinender Jain, said police. 'Kumar was riding his bike home when he was hit and run over by a car on National Highway 8 near Shiv Murti at 10pm. Passersby called us, and we rushed Kumar to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram and then to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where he was declared dead,' said a police officer associated with the case. 'The car was unidentified because of heavy traffic and there were no nearby CCTV cameras. So, we examined all vehicles along NH8 from Mahipalpur to the Gurugram border on CCTV and narrowed the probe to 20 vehicles. We then identified the car through CCTV footage at IFFCO Chowk in Gurugram,' said Amit Goel, deputy commissioner of police (southwest). Police said that they served a notice to the car owner who said that it was her driver who alone in the car at the time of the accident. 'We tracked down Jain and arrested him from Jasola on June 11, and also seized the car,' he added. Police said that Jain is being interrogated and has been sent to police custody.

Delhi: World's largest adrenal tumor removed robotically at Safdarjung Hospital
New Delhi: Safdarjung Hospital has achieved a new milestone in its robotic surgery program with the successful conduct of a complex robotic surgery on a 36-year-old woman who was diagnosed with a giant adrenal tumour. Medical Superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital, Dr Sandeep Bansal, informed that the adrenal tumour, measuring 18.2 x 13.5 cms, is the largest ever adrenal tumour in the world to have been removed robotically in a minimally invasive fashion. The robotic surgery was conducted by Professor and Head of the Department of Urology and Renal Transplant, Dr Pawan Vasudeva, along with Dr Niraj Kumar and Dr Avishek Mandal. The anaesthesia team, comprised of Dr Sushil, Dr Bhavya, and Dr Megha. The procedure was fraught with dangers since the tumour not only had grown to a massive size but had also encroached upon and was dangerously adherent to three critical body structures that is the Inferior Vena Cava, the Liver and the Right kidney. The tumour needed to be removed in its entirety without damaging the critical surrounding structures. Dr Vasudeva opined that precise dissection is the key to performing such surgeries and that the 3d Vision of the Da Vinci robot, along with its dextrous robotic arms, allows one to perform complex surgeries with greater precision than what is usually possible with laparoscopy. In this case, the surgery lasted over three hours, and the tumour could be completely removed without any complications. Post-operative recovery was uneventful, and the patient was discharged in three days. Robotic surgery offers numerous benefits, including small keyhole incisions, precise work, reduced postoperative pain, early postoperative recovery and discharge with a faster return to work. If this surgery had been performed by an open route, it would've required a skin incision of more than 20 cms, with subsequent complete healing requiring a few weeks, informed Dr Vasudeva. Dr Sandeep Bansal said that this milestone showcases Safdarjung Hospital's expertise in robotic surgery and its dedication to delivering cutting-edge quality healthcare free of cost to all patients. A complex robotic surgery of this nature, which was performed free of cost at Safdarjung Hospital, would've cost upwards of a few lakhs in the private sector.
