SIAM and KVS launch National Road Safety Education Programme for school students

), in collaboration with
Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan
(
KVS
), has launched a nationwide online
road safety
education programme aimed at school students. The initiative is being carried out under the guidance of the
Ministry of Road Transport and Highways
and the
Ministry of Education
.
Curriculum-integrated modules for road safety education
The programme will be implemented in 1,253 Kendriya Vidyalayas and it will deliver six interactive digital modules tailored to different school levels—Foundational, Middle, and Senior Secondary. These modules address key topics such as basic road safety, pedestrian awareness, seatbelt and helmet usage, road rules, safe travel practices, and legal aspects.
The programme is part of SIAM's 'Surakshit Safar' (Safe Journey) initiative and supports the broader aim of promoting responsible road behaviour through early education. It follows a successful pilot run at Kendriya Vidyalaya, R.K. Puram in October 2024. Based on positive feedback from educators and students, SIAM has developed a web-based Learning Management System (LMS) to integrate road safety sessions into school curricula.

, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways said, 'The government has introduced several new rules, like mandatory rear seat belts, and these habits should be taught early in childhood. It's important that these lessons start in schools. Through this programme, we have approached the Ministry of Education to incorporate road safety learning in schools. I would request students to advise their parents against using mobile phones while driving, and encourage responsible behaviour on roads.'
