Saham hosts fruit festival to boost eco-farming
Saham – The Saham Fruits Festival officially opened in North Batinah on Monday, aiming to highlight local agricultural production and encourage sustainable farming.
Organised by Saham Wali's Office, in cooperation with Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the three-day festival is taking place at Saham Public Park. It provides farmers with a direct platform to market and sell their produce to the public, while also raising awareness on the economic and environmental value of agriculture in the wilayat.
The event is showcasing a wide range of fruits and crops cultivated in Saham's fertile farmlands. It also serves as a venue for public engagement and agricultural education, with various activities designed to inform and involve visitors. These include fruit displays and stalls, workshops on modern farming techniques, and seminars on best practices in agriculture. The sessions aim to support both farmers and those interested in learning more about the sector.
Ahmed bin Ali al Farsi, Director of Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Saham, said the festival plays an important role in connecting farmers directly with consumers. 'The Saham Fruits Festival provides an excellent opportunity for farmers to directly showcase their produce to the public,' he said. 'It also plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable agricultural methods and raising awareness on the importance of this sector in supporting the community and ensuring food security.'
The festival is expected to attract significant local and regional interest, offering visitors access to fresh produce while encouraging dialogue around the future of farming in Oman.
