Top Pakistani general discusses enhancing defense, security ties with Turkish, Azeri officials
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's General Sahir Shamshad Mirza met senior defense officials of Turkiye and Azerbaijan on Wednesday to discuss strengthening existing security and defense ties between the countries, Pakistan Army's media wing said. Islamabad has grown closer to Ankara and Baku after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev openly pledged support for Pakistan during its latest military confrontation with India in May. Mirza, who is the chairman of joint chiefs of staff committee (CJCSC) of the Pakistan Army, was attending the 17th International Defense Industry Fair in Istanbul, renowned for showcasing cutting-edge innovations and advancements in the defense sector. The Pakistani general held separate meetings with General (retired) Yasar Guler, Turkiye's minister of national defense, Col. General Hasanov Zakir Asgar Oglu, Azerbaijan's minister of defense, Gurbanov Agil Salim Oglu, Azerbaijan's deputy minister of defense and General Metin Gurak, the chief of Turkish general staff. 'Discussions were held on variety of issues of bilateral military cooperation with emphasis on importance of expanding cooperation in the fields of defense and security,' the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military's media wing, said in a statement. 'The dignitaries reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening strategic partnerships and enhancing defense corporation in line with dictates of future geo-strategic environment and technological advancements.' Under a 2018 agreement, Türkiye is delivering four MILGEM-class corvettes to the Pakistan Navy, with two built in Istanbul and two at Karachi Shipyard under a technology transfer arrangement. The first vessel, PNS Babur, was delivered in 2023.

Senior Pakistan general pledges deeper strategic ties with China at PLA anniversary
KARACHI: Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to further strengthening ties with China, while addressing a ceremony marking the 98th founding day of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), according to an official statement. Islamabad and Beijing are long-time allies and have jointly pursued multibillion-dollar infrastructure, energy and regional connectivity projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship initiative of China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The corridor provides Beijing with direct access to the Arabian Sea through Pakistan's Gwadar port, while enabling Islamabad to modernize infrastructure and boost regional trade. The two countries also maintain close cooperation in defense and security. Earlier this month, India's Deputy Army Chief, Lt. Gen. Rahul Singh, claimed China had provided Pakistan with 'live inputs' during a four-day military conflict with India in May. Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, in an exclusive interview with Arab News last month, described the outcome as a 'victory' that was entirely 'Made in Pakistan.' 'In his address, the CJCSC highlighted the enduring and time-tested 'Iron-clad brotherhood' between Pakistan and China, with shared resolve to broaden and deepen this unique relationship across all domains,' the military's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said in a statement. 'He commended PLA's pivotal role under the visionary leadership of His Excellency President Xi Jinping for China's remarkable development and rapid modernization, which has transformed People's Republic of China into a key pillar of peace, stability and prosperity,' the statement added. 'CJCSC highlighted China as a stabilizing factor in the regional security dynamics.' The event, held in Rawalpindi, was attended by a wide cross-section of civilian and military officials, diplomats, media representatives and business leaders. General Mirza also reiterated Pakistan's 'unwavering commitment' to ensuring the security of Chinese nationals working in the country. Thousands of Chinese citizens are employed across dozens of CPEC-linked projects, many of which are located in volatile regions such as Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where separatist and militant groups have repeatedly targeted foreign workers. Chinese nationals have also come under attack in Karachi, Pakistan's largest city and commercial capital, prompting authorities to implement tighter security protocols.

CJCSC meets leadership of Australia during his visit
ISLAMABAD: General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) visited Australia to attend 14th session of Annual Defence and Security Talks. During the visit, Chairman JCSC met high-ranking civilian and military leadership of Australia including Admiral David Johnston, Chief of Defence Forces, Andrew Shearer, Director General Office of National Intelligence (ONI), Lieutenant General Simon Stuart, Chief of Australian Army and Gemma Huggins, Ambassador Counter Terrorism at Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, according to an ISPR statement. Defence and Security Talks aimed at strengthening mutual understanding and identifying areas for further expanding defence collaboration between the respective militaries. During the meetings, both sides engaged in discussions on wide range of issues including evolving global and regional environment, security challenges and opportunities to enhance existing bilateral military exchanges. During the visit, CJCSC delivered a lecture in Australian Defence College (ADC) on Pakistan's Security Perspective and highlighted Pakistan's contributions to regional peace and stability; and also visited Australian naval ship HMAS Adelaide. Civil awards conferred to scientists, engineers working under NCA
ISLAMABAD: In recognition of their outstanding contributions to national defence and scientific advancement, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) and deputy chairman of the Development Control Committee, conferred civil awards on behalf of the President of Pakistan to distinguished scientists and engineers working under the National Command Authority (NCA). The prestigious investiture ceremony was held at Chaklala Garrison, Rawalpindi, where a total of 47 officers were honoured for their meritorious services. The awards included 10 Sitara-i-Imtiaz, 21 President's Awards for Pride of Performance, and 16 Tamgha-i-Imtiaz. The ceremony underscored the vital role played by these professionals in strengthening Pakistan's strategic and technological capabilities. CJCSC confers civil awards
General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Deputy Chairman Development Control Committee and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), on Tuesday conferred civil awards on 47 eminent scientists and engineers serving under the National Command Authority for their meritorious services. According to the ISPR, the investiture ceremony, held at Chaklala Garrison, Rawalpindi, was conducted on behalf of the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Among the recipients, 10 officers were awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz, 21 received the President's Award for Pride of Performance, and 16 were honored with Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.
