Aizawl, July 22 (PTI) The mortal remains of Mizo National Front (MNF) MLA Lalrintluanga Sailo, who died at a hospital in Delhi, were brought to Aizawl on Tuesday afternoon. Sailo, whose performance as opposition member in the assembly was praised by many, died at Max Superspeciality Hospital in Delhi around 9 pm on Monday after battling with complicated ailments, including scrub typhus and pneumonia, for nearly a month. The 65-year-old MNF leader was flown to Delhi on June 29 following a fever. Although he initially showed signs of improvement, his condition deteriorated a few days ago and became worse on Sunday, following which he was put on ventilator support, family sources said. Born in 1960, Sailo joined MNF and went underground when he was only 16. He actively took part in the secessionist movement, spearheaded by the MNF led by late Laldenga, for 20 years till the underground group signed the historic Mizo peace accord with the Centre in June 1986. He contested the assembly polls in 2018 and got elected from Dampa in Mamit district, defeating his nearest opponent, Congress nominee Lalrobiaka, by a margin of 1,657 votes. He was re-elected from the same constituency in the last assembly polls, held in November 2023. Sailo held many important posts in the MNF and was a member of the national core committee of the party till his last breath. The MNF described Sailo's death as 'the collapse of one of the big pillars of the party'. Governor VK Singh, Chief Minister Lalduhoma and state Congress president Lal Thanzara mourned his death. 'I am deeply saddened by the passing of Pu Lalrintluanga Sailo. His dedicated contributions and tireless service to the state of Mizoram and its people will be fondly remembered,' the governor said in a social media post. Lalduhoma said he was deeply shocked by the sudden demise of Sailo, whom he hailed as a diligent person, orator and good debater. The CM said he had instructed officers and staff of the Mizoram House in Delhi to do whatever is required to assist Sailo's family. PTI CORR SOM This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. Fake cert racket busted in Mizoram, 3 arrested
Aizawl: Three persons have been arrested in South Mizoram's Lunglei district in connection with a fake High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) marksheet scam after an applicant for a constable post was found using a fraudulent certificate during the ongoing police recruitment process. On Sunday, police arrested C Lalduhoma, a Mizoram homeguard personnel and aspirant for the constable position, after the Lunglei district police constable recruitment board discovered that the mark sheet he presented during his personal interview was fake. Lalduhoma reportedly admitted to purchasing the fraudulent certificate for Rs 12,000 from PC Zonunmawii, a resident of Ramthar locality in Lunglei town. Following his arrest, Zonunmawii confessed to selling the fake certificate but denied creating it, instead pointing to Lalrohluzuala Sailo, another resident of Ramthar neighbourhood. Police subsequently arrested Sailo at his residence, where they allegedly seized incriminating documents, a laptop, and a smartphone. Speaking to TOI over the phone on Tuesday, Lunglei district superintendent of police Jerome Lalmuankima Hmar said Sailo's laptop and mobile phone will undergo thorough examination, which is expected to uncover further details about the fake certificate racket.
