More Than Half of Netflix Users Watch Anime
Netflix unleashed a slew of intriguing announcements at Anime Expo 2025, but none were quite as eye-opening as the fact that half of its subscribers are anime fans. Netflix's Sakamoto Days Season 1 Part 2
In a Tudum post that listed Netflix's upcoming slate of anime series, the release of Dan Da Dan Season 2 , Sakamoto Days Season 1 Part 2, Record of Ragnarok, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, among other series, were announced. However, eagle-eyed readers would also notice that Tudum casually slid in the factoid that 'more than half of Netflix's members [watch] anime'.
This is particularly impressive when you consider that the streamer had already crossed its 300 million subscriber count as of January this year when it announced its price hike. This would indicate that there are approximately 150 million Netflix users tuning in to watch anime on the streaming platform, which is quite a statistic indeed.
This is corroborated by a recent Dentsu study (via Variety), whose findings reflected that 48 percent of the 8,600 viewers surveyed across 10 countries were indeed anime fans. These numbers are indicative of a strong viewership for anime, similarly reflected across other streaming platforms as well, with the study reporting that 32 percent of Disney+ subscribers and 29 percent of Amazon Prime Video users had similar consumption patterns. Dentsu also indicated that 31 percent of global viewers watch at least one anime per week, with Netflix far surpassing its competitors with 63 percent. This only proves that Netflix's consistent efforts to beef up its already wide repertoire of anime titles over the past ten years have been fruitful.
If anything, based on the slate unveiled at Anime Expo 2025, anime fans can look forward to more expanded anime offerings on Netflix in the future.
