Smart and invisible policing helping police prevent crimes, says A.P. Home Minister
Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha said that 'smart and invisible policing' are helping the police to prevent crimes and provide more security to the public in the State during the launch of 'Suraksha 360' aimed at providing CCTV surveillance for the entire NTR Police Commissionerate, on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that mobile phones can be used as weapons for protection, and urged women to use 'Sakthi App' for their safety. 'There is no scope for crimes in Andhra Pradesh. Government is taking all steps to prevent crime. Drones and CCTV are being used to check anti-social elements, particularly in VIP zones,' Ms. Anitha said. Vijayawada MP Kesineni Shivanath praised the NTR Commissionerate Police for launching Suraksha 360 which will help to check crimes in Amaravati region. The MP also had words of appreciation for MLA Sujana Chowdary, who installed ₹30 lakh worth of CCTVs in Vijayawada West Constituency. District Collector G. Lakshmisha said that NTR district will become a role model for taking initiatives that help create a peaceful atmosphere. He thanked the donors who helped to install CCTVs in the district. Mr. Sujana Chowdary, meanwhile, thanked the police for solving traffic problems at all major junctions by using 'Astram App'. He directed the police to take measures to provide safety at all schools and colleges. Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhar Babu said that CCTVs helped the police to detect crimes. Police have planned to install four surveillance cameras in each village. Steps are in place to enhance security at all temples, churches and masjids in the Commissionerate, he said. Later, the Home Minister, MP, MLA and other officers felicitated the donors of the CCTVs. MLAs Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, Gadde Rammohan Rao, Sriram Rajagopal and Kotikalapudi Srinivas and other police officers participated.

900 spots in A.P. identified as unsafe for women: DGP
Police have identified about 900 vulnerable places which are unsafe for women in the State, said Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta. Steps are being taken to improve electrification, installation of CCTVs and maintenance of vigil at these spots to check crime against women, he added. As many as 169 accused were convicted by the courts in cases related to crime against women and children in the last ten months. The accused were involved in rape, gang rape, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and other cases, the DGP said. To check and track the investigation in cases of crime against women, government has constituted a 'Women and Child Safety Wing'. Inspector General of Police B. Raja Kumari will head the wing, the DGP stated in a press release on Monday. 'About 1.52 lakh people have downloaded the 'Sakthi App' in their mobile phones. The app is available in English and Hindi languages. Police received 11.60 lakh SoS calls, of which 3,193 cases have been registered,' Mr. Harish Kumar Gupta said. In total, 164 Sakthi teams have been formed in the State, which conducted over 12,000 awareness programmes at bus and railway stations, and other public places. Police identified 254 habitual eve-teasers and instructions have been given to track their movements, the DGP said. Police have been conducting programmes on the use of 'Sakthi App', which has been tracking cases on missing persons, safe travel, family disputes and other issues, he said.
