Olympique Safi Win Throne Cup on Penalties After Draw With RS Berkane
Olympique Safi have been crowned Throne Cup champions after beating RS Berkane 6–5 on penalties, following a 1–1 draw after extra time in today's final at the Grand Stadium of Fez.
The final, played in front of Prince Moulay Rachid, got off to a lively start. Salahddine Rahaouli gave Safi the lead in the 39th minute, only for RS Berkane to level through a stoppage-time penalty from Issoufou Dayo just before the break.
The second half was tighter, with few chances from either side. Berkane had a golden opportunity to go in front on the hour mark, but Dayo saw his second penalty of the match saved by Olympique Safi goalkeeper Khalid Kabiri Alaoui.
Extra time failed to produce a winner, sending the match to a penalty shootout. Olympique Safi held their nerve from the spot, converting all six of their kicks, while Berkane missed one.
It's a historic win for the coastal side, who lift the Throne Cup for the first time since 1985.
