Galway workshop adds a splash of colour to Salthill village and seafront plans
Plans were drawn to reflect the solutions and improvements suggested by feedback given in the 'Continuing the Conversation' report in February 2025.
Emerging from the process is the creation of 'beach street' – a transformation of the area outside of the Omniplex and the Salthill cark park to accommodate a larger recreational area and designated bike lanes/walking paths.
'The community in Salthill has responded exceptionally positively to this vision-making process,' said Eoghan Lynch, Senior Planner at Galway City Council. 'This is a framework firmly focused on delivery – not just ideas, but actions that will shape the future of Salthill in meaningful ways.'
The response from this evolving project has been overwhelmingly positive and fruitful. Cllr Alan Curran said that 'real solutions emerge' from the collaborative effort to keep Salthill the loved destination that it is to Galway.
Also included in the initiative is space for other projects like Coirib go Cósta – Galway City Flood Relief Scheme and night-time economy projects, both on the list of priorities for the area.
stage is tentatively scheduled to begin. It will draw more feedback from the wider public and 'sow the seed for future implementation workstreams.'
