Jack Ginnivan mocks Ken Hinkley with priceless celebration as Hawthorn get payback against Port Adelaide
Hawthorn have exacted some belated payback on Port Adelaide with a slogging 38-point win to revive their top-four hopes. The Hawks booted five goals to one in the last term in a 13.9 (87) to 7.7 (49) victory in atrocious conditions at Launceston's UTAS Stadium. Hawthorn antagonist Jack Ginnivan iced the win in near-freezing conditions with the last goal of the game - and then made an aeroplane motion with his arms. The celebration followed Power coach Ken Hinkley being fined $20,000 for a similar reaction, plus verbal taunting, of Ginnivan and Hawk players after they lost last year's semi-final. 'Will he give them the aeroplane here back to Kenny if he kicks it, Jack?' commentator Dwayne Russell asked moments beforehand. 'Yes he does! Yes he does!' Cameras panned to Hinkley, who smiled in reaction to the cheeky taunt. 'Payback is deserved,' Hinkley later said. 'I have no problems with it and I am OK with it, I think it's good for the game, the theatre of the game. 'And good on Jack ... and Hawthorn themselves as a club. I won't be one that sits here and does anything but acknowledge that it was my turn today.' Hawk coach Sam Mitchell could also see the lighter side of the exchange. 'That is what you're going to get from Jack,'' he said. 'The banter between the clubs made a little bit more interest in the game. 'We finish the year one (win) each ... but it's good to get one back against Port because they have obviously caused us some pain and trauma, and all the Hawks fans some pain and trauma, over the last 12 months.' Hawk veterans Jack Gunston and Jarman Impey kicked three goals each in a win that lifts their club to fourth ahead of other results. And their teammate Dylan Moore was best-afield with 32 disposals, two goals and nine tackles. The 11th-placed Power slipped from finals contention in Hinkley's 13th and final season as coach before handing over to assistant Josh Carr. Mitchell said the Hawks set up the win with their strong first quarter into a gale - after a feisty start, scores were locked at 3.2 apiece at the first break. Hawthorn booted three goals to one in a rain-soaked second stanza, with Gunston scoring two, including a stunning 30m set shot from a boundary line. That strike gave the Hawks a handy 13-point halftime buffer. And despite kicking into the wind in the third, Hawthorn again held sway to lead by 13 points at three-quarter time. The Hawks then swept with the wind to a victory as on-ballers James Worpel (26 disposals) and Josh Ward (26), Impey (26) and utility Blake Hardwick (27) revelled on the heavy track. Port's Jack Lukosius and Mitch Georgiades scored two goals each, while winger Jase Burgoyne (26 touches) and half-back Kane Farrell (25) were busy.

AFL 2025: Hawthorn will welcome back forward Mitch Lewis from injury this weekend
The much-anticipated wait for Mitch Lewis is almost over. The Hawthorn spearhead is set to play his first senior game in 378 days this weekend against Port Adelaide in Tasmania. Lewis was one of the hard luck stories in Hawthorn's dream run to September last year, going down with an ACL in round 17. The 26-year-old sought overseas advice on his knee and has been made to earn his place in the side through the VFL. He had kicked two and three goals in his first two matches for Box Hill but banged the selection door down with a haul of five against Essendon last week. Lewis is a welcome addition to the Hawks' front half after going down to Fremantle last weekend. The clash against the Power marks the return fixture of the Hawks' worst performance of the year – Gather Round. The Power piled on 12 of the first 13 goals in that game to hand Hawthorn its first loss of the year. Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell was unsure if he would readdress the Gather Round loss but confirmed he would reach into his 'kit bag' to keep the top-four hopes alive. 'They've had the wood over us lately, they've won certainly the last three,' Mitchell said. 'We haven't handled a couple of situations well … it's a big end to the season for every club and they're in the way of what we're trying to achieve. 'We'll prepare the players as best we can to get the outcome we want. 'There's a whole range of things in our kit bag that we can use for that – the last couple of times we've played Port is part of that. 'But whether we decide to show too much of that or not is to be determined.'

Hawks vow to bounce back from Fremantle's sucker punch
Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell has described their 13-point loss to Fremantle as like a "punch to the stomach", but declared his team is still up for the fight in the battle for a top-four berth. The Dockers kicked four goals to zip in the final quarter at a heaving Optus Stadium on Saturday night to turn a 13-point deficit into a fighting 12.5 (77) to 9.10 (64) win. Hawthorn would have been a win clear in fourth spot if they had beaten Fremantle. Instead, they are now sixth on the log-jammed ladder with an 11-6 record - the same as the Dockers. Hawthorn host Port Adelaide in Tasmania next Saturday, before rounding out their home-and-away campaign with games against Carlton, Adelaide, Collingwood, Melbourne and Brisbane. Mitchell was gutted to see his team lose to Fremantle, but he doesn't see it as the be-all-and-end-all. "We look at the season holistically, and we know there's nine teams that have got a slight gap on the on the rest, and there's only eight that make the finals," Mitchell said. "And there's only four that get what everyone really wants, which is the top-four spot. "We know we're going to have to play really consistent, high level footy for the rest of the season if we want to be where we want to get to. "So if we had of won tonight, does that guarantee anything? No. Does losing tonight guarantee anything? No. "So it's a bit of a punch to the stomach, if you like, but we've still got plenty of fight in us for the rest of this season. 'We're sixth on the ladder, so the ball's in our court, and we'll lick our wounds ... and get back at it." Mitchell has some food for thought on the selection front after forward Mitch Lewis kicked five goals in the VFL on Saturday. Lewis, who tore his ACL late last year, has kicked 10 goals in his three VFL games since returning from injury. Calsher Dear, who missed the first half of the season due to stress fractures in his back, kicked two goals against Fremantle on Saturday night in just his second AFL match of the year.
