"Evie is beyond happy to have a little sister and we are over the moon. We love you so much little Emmy." Aussie tennis great Rennae Stubbs led the well-wishes, writing: "Just another gorgeous baby girl for me to love endlessly! Emmy your Auntie Nae Nae can't wait to meet you!! Sam and Liz, I'm so happy for you both and Evie, you're going to be the best big sis ever! Love you all." Retired Russian tennis player Elena Vesnina wrote: "She is precious. Congratulations Sam!!!" While Aussie player Maddison Inglis commented: "So beautiful!!!! Can't wait to meet her." Fellow Aussie great Alicia Molik added: "Congrats Sam Liz and Evie." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Samantha Stosur (@samstosur) Stosur and Astling had their first daughter Evie five years ago. On that occasion it was Astling who carried Evie, but this time around it was Stosur who gave birth to Emmy. Stosur is a legend of Australian tennis, famously winning the US Open singles title in 2011 when she beat Serena Williams on her home court. She reached World No.4 in singles that same year, and was World No.1 in doubles in 2006. She also won six grand slam titles in doubles - four in women's and two in mixed - including the Australian Open mixed title in 2005 and women's title in 2019. The 41-year-old is now the captain of Australia's Billie Jean King Cup team, helping mentor some of the country's best young talent. Sam Stosur's brave move after keeping relationship secret Stosur has been in a relationship with Astling since 2016, but she admitted she was initially too scared to go public because of what the reaction would be like. After she won the 'Spirit of Tennis' award at the Newcombe Medal ceremony in 2019, she realised she wanted to show her partner the proper recognition she deserved, but hadn't done so in her acceptance speech. 'I was in the car park at the end of the night and something just didn't feel right because I'd thanked all these people who were obviously very, very important to me, but not my partner,' she said at the time. 'And she is a huge part of what I've been able to do. And who I am now. "And that just didn't sit well with me. And I thought, 'Do you know what? Bugger this, I just want to thank her and I want to do this'. So that's why I put it on Instagram. As you get older and you're more mature and you reflect more on things and I thought, you know what, this is who I am.' 'Once I stepped off stage I was like, 'What are you doing? You've just accepted this award, thanked all these people and the person who is really with you every single day, the person you have the most candid and open discussions with who you want to spend the rest of your life with, you can't mention them on stage?," she added. 'I was like, 'Nah, that's ridiculous, I don't want to do that anymore'. We were walking back to the car to come home and I said, 'I want to do this' and I think I hit send at 3am or something.' 'Just another gorgeous baby girl for me to love endlessly ! Emmy your Auntie Nae Nae can't wait to meet you!! Sam and Liz, I'm so happy for you both and Evie, you're going to be the best big sis ever! Love you all,' Rennae Stubbs commented. 'Congrats you guys,' Lizette Cabrera said while Alicia Molik added: 'Congrats Sam, Liz and Evie.' Sam, who shares daughter Genevieve with Liz, announced she was expecting her second child back in April. Taking to Instagram, Sam revealed that her family was set to expand with a cute clip. The video showed Sam hurriedly dusting off and setting up a pram and a baby capsule on her back deck. 'Time to dust off the baby gear,' the sports star wrote over the exciting vision. Captioning the clip, Sam confirmed the news revealing that, this time around, it was her turn to carry the precious cargo. 'We're so excited for the new addition to our family,' she wrote. 'It's my turn this time.' Liz gave birth to Genevieve in 2020. The tennis player announced at the time her girlfriend Liz had given birth to a baby girl on June 16, 2020 in a doting post on Instagram. Sam had gushed about her joy at becoming a mother and how the coronavirus pandemic had been a blessing in disguise for her young family. The Australian grand slam winner said motherhood has been 'absolutely amazing'. 'Even the tougher times don't seem that bad when you just look at her little face and you just want to cuddle her and hold her all day long. It's absolutely incredible,' Sam said. But she admitted she was still adjusting to becoming a mum and all the craziness that comes with it. 'It still seems a little bit weird to say she's my daughter, but I'll get used to that. It's absolutely amazing,' she said at the time. As she battled through the learning process and sleepless nights, she said she' felt fortunate to have been blessed with little Evie. Sam is the only Australian woman since the legendary Evonne Goolagong Cawley, more than half a century ago, to claim major titles in singles, doubles and mixed doubles - all forms of the professional game. Her on-court career came to an emotional end in 2023 following a first-round Australian Open mixed doubles loss with Mathew Ebden. She won the Australian Open women's doubles in 2019 with Zhang Shaui, as well as the mixed title at Melbourne Park way back in 2005 with countryman Scott Draper. The 2011 US Open singles champion also claimed grand slam women's doubles titles at the 2006 French Open and at Flushing Meadows in 2005 and 2021 and spent 61 weeks atop the doubles rankings during her career.

Daria Kasatkina aiming for Australian Billie Jean King Cup debut in Tasmania
Australia will host a Billie Jean King Cup tie in Tasmania in November, with Daria Kasatkina hoping she'll be cleared to be in contention to make her debut for her adopted country in the world cup of women's tennis. The draw for the play-offs was made in London on Thursday when it was revealed that Sam Stosur's Australia team will host a three-pronged play-off tie against Brazil and Portugal in Hobart between November 14 and 16. Kasatkina, the new Australian number one after gaining permanent residence in March, has previously competed in the Billie Jean King Cup for her native Russia. The 28-year-old said she was hopeful of making her debut in the green and gold this year. She admitted, however, it was still unclear when and if she would get clearance to play. "Talking about the Billie Jean King Cup, that process is more complicated, which is not depending on me," she told reporters. "It's something which Tennis Australia has to deal with the ITF [International Tennis Federation]. This is where it's already different language. I'm not going to be the part of it. This is where the federation has to deal with the ITF." If she does get clearance and is selected, the Australian team would be a strong favourite to top its three-team round-robin group at Hobart's Domain Tennis Centre against two teams that don't have the same depth to call on. Even without Kasatkina, the world number 16, Stosur has rising teenager star Maya Joint (number 52), Ajla Tomljanović (number 66) and Kim Birrell (number 79) to choose from in the top 100, while Olivia Gadecki is 104. Grand slam finalist Ellen Perez is the 16th-ranked doubles player in the world. In contrast, Brazil has only one stand-out player in 21st-ranked Beatriz Haddad Maia, with their next two on the WTA computer being the number 219 Laura Pigossi and number 240 Carolina Alves. The Portuguese will be the rank outsiders, with their hopes resting on two sisters, 21-year-old Matilde Jorge (number 251) and her 25-year-old sibling Francisca, who's at 259. Stosur's team will be hoping to get back among the elite next year by winning the November tie after failing to reach this season's week-long final which will be held in Shenzhen, China, in September. Play-offs draw: Group A: (Monterrey, Mexico): Canada, Mexico, Denmark Group B: (Gorzow Wielkopolski, Poland): Poland, Romania, New Zealand Group C: (Cordoba, Argentina): Slovakia, Switzerland, Argentina Group D: (Varazdin, Croatia): Czech Republic, Colombia, Croatia Group E: (Hobart, Australia): Australia, Brazil, Portugal Group F: (Ismaning, Germany): Germany, Belgium, Turkey Group G: (Bengaluru, India): Netherlands, Slovenia, India AAP
