The case went viral on social media. Acting on public information and intelligence, a team from the Putatan Police Station tracked down the suspect in Putatan at 6pm on Monday (July 28). District Police Chief Supt Sammy Newton thanked the public for channelling information about the suspect. The suspect is currently under remand. PENAMPANG: Police arrested a 40-year-old local man and confiscated 70.32 grams of suspected methamphetamine (Syabu) worth RM10,500 in a drug bust here, Saturday. Police conducted the raid at around 4.30pm and found seven transparent plastic packets containing crystalline substances believed to be Syabu. The suspect tested positive for methamphetamine/amphetamine in a urine test. Penampang District Police Chief Supt Sammy Newton warned the public against drug involvement and urged cooperation in reporting illegal activities. 'Substance abuse and trafficking are serious crimes. PENAMPANG: A man and woman were detained in a drug raid at Kampung Nosoob, Jalan Towering, with police seizing methamphetamine worth about RM2,500, here, Tuesday. Police conducted the operation at about 4.30pm as part of their Ops Gempur. During the raid, police discovered a transparent plastic packet containing 50.5 grammes of crystal substance suspected to be methamphetamine (syabu). The local duo, a 55-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman, both tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine. Police also confiscated two vehicles and RM1,800 in cash during the operation. Both suspects are currently under remand for investigations. KOTA KINABALU: A husband and wife have been arrested in possession of suspected syabu (methamphetamine) during a drug raid at Kampung Nosoob in Penampang on Monday afternoon (June 30). The local couple, aged 54 and 55, were detained by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Penampang district police headquarters around 4.30pm. Penampang district police chief, Supt Sammy Newton, said a search led to the discovery of a clear plastic packet containing crystal-like substances believed to be methamphetamine, weighing approximately 50.5g. Police also seized two vehicles and RM1,800 in cash. He said the street value of the seized drugs is estimated at RM2,500. 'Initial urine tests confirmed that both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine,' Newton said in a statement on Wednesday (July 2). The case is investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death sentence or life imprisonment with at least 12 strokes of the cane if not sentenced to death. The couple is also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same act for drug use and is currently under remand. Newton urged the public to report any information related to drug abuse or criminal activities to the nearest police station. On Friday, a 39-year-old man was detained outside a condominium in Penampang with six packets of suspected ecstasy powder weighing 228 grams. The estimated drug value was RM4,800, and the suspect is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment if convicted. In a separate operation on Saturday, a 35-year-old woman was arrested at a residential area in Putatan with over 5 grams of suspected syabu. Urine tests showed she tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine. She faces charges under Sections 39A(1) and 15(1)(a) of the same Act. 'We remain fully committed to the fight against drugs and urge the public to be our eyes and ears,' said Penampang District Police Chief Supt.
