MCD gives nod to one-time amnesty for property tax

New Delhi: Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday introduced a one-time property tax amnesty scheme to allow owners to clear outstanding dues without paying any interest and penalties. The proposal, tabled by commissioner Ashwani Kumar, was approved in the House meeting. The scheme, ' Sumpattikar Niptaan Yojana ', will be implemented from June 1 till Sept 30. To avail its benefits, the taxpayers, including residential and commercial, must pay their dues from the past five years – 2021-22 to 2024-25 – as well as the current fiscal 2025-26. "On the payment of the principal amount from 2021 to 2026, all previous dues prior to the financial year 2020-21, including interest and penalty, will be waived. The taxpayer has to file an online PTR by accessing the link for the purpose on the MCD website. The property tax owners or occupiers having multiple unique property identification numbers for the same property are advised to get them merged by accessing the MCD website. There shall be a helpline number 91-7065064988 in MCD to facilitate the taxpayers," stated the proposal. It stated that "taxpayers shall upload the proof of previous payment receipts for the period from 2020-21, if any, along with other documents. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Đăng ký Undo MCD shall also publish the details of properties tax paid in the public domain on the MCD portal in order to facilitate taxpayers. On successful submission of an application and payment of dues under the scheme, a tax receipt will be auto-generated, indicating the payment made, and will be available to the taxpayers for download. " The department will start reviewing submissions made under the scheme from April 1, 2026. The proposal warns that underpayment will lead to a 30% penalty and the taxpayer shall be liable to pay the difference. Taxpayers with pending litigation and looking to avail of the scheme's benefits will need to file a written undertaking that they will withdraw the pending court case. The proposal also updates the Samriddhi scheme 2022-23, wherein an opportunity was provided to waive arrears for the past five years and the current year bill for residential properties. For commercial properties, the benefit was extended on payment of the past six years' arrears and the current year's bill. Over 1.2 lakh applications were received under the scheme, but about 10,900 cases are pending or not cleared due to deficiencies, and about 7,112 applications were rejected for various reasons. MCD has issued 'no dues' certificates to 90,987 taxpayers.
