Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 — these 5 rumored upgrades could be game-changing

The Summer 2025 Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event is right around the corner, which means new Samsung Galaxy Watches are almost certainly on the horizon (also, new Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip models). Rumors and leaks suggest a new Galaxy Watch 8 model is all but certain, while a Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is possible but slightly less likely. For this story, I'm going to focus on the former. I reviewed the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 shortly after its release last summer and was overall impressed with the adequately comfortable, minimalistic case design, slick user experience and ample offering of handy smart features and apps; but it's the holistic and fitness-tracking tools I appreciate the most. This is why I chose it as one of the best smartwatch models in 2025. Will the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 maintain its predecessor's easy-wearing, smooth-operating disposition, while adding to the class-leading suite of AI-powered health tools? The latest rumors have me hopeful. With no shortage of leaks and murmurs to pick from surrounding the forthcoming device, these are the five biggest Galaxy Watch 8 rumors so far. Samsung introduced the 'cushion case' last year with the Galaxy Watch Ultra. Now, for better or worse, it seems that the Galaxy Watch 8 will also inherit this square-ish design. For Galaxy Watch diehards, this may be a tough pill to swallow. After all, a circular case has long been the design hallmark of the Galaxy Watch line. Perhaps Samsung simply wants to better differentiate itself from the Google Pixel Watch 3, which is also a circle. Either way, recently shared renderings by known leaker Evan Blass strongly suggest that the cushion case is here to stay, for this generation of Galaxy Watch, at least. When the Galaxy Watch 7 debuted last year, something was missing. Unlike the Galaxy Watch 6, Samsung didn't offer a Galaxy Watch 7 'Classic' model with a clicky bezel. As a lover of both traditional mechanical watches and smart ones, I'm genuinely thrilled when brands incorporate old-school design elements into their modern devices. So, yeah, I'm a huge fan of the Classic's bezel. Fortunately, an earlier set of leaked renderings strongly suggests the return of a Classic model with the Galaxy Watch 8. Like the standard Galaxy Watch 8 renderings, the Classic edition also appears to inherit the cushion case. Plus, it looks like to has a new third case-side button near the 3:00 position, similar to the Galaxy Watch Ultra. I tested the smaller 40mm Galaxy Watch 7 model and averaged roughly 24 hours of use per charge. That's a little bit better than the Apple Watch Series 10, but still a far cry from the Galaxy Watch Ultra's roughly four days of battery life (in low power mode). Based on paperwork Samsung filed for battery certification — and first spotted by Xpertpick — both the (presumably) 40mm and 44mm Galaxy Watch 8 models will see modest battery capacity increases. We're talking about a boost of about 5aMh. Still, that bump up, coupled with a possibly new, more efficient processor, could mean several more hours of use in between charges. Here's hoping. Samsung began rolling out the brand's latest One UI 8 beta software for the Galaxy Watch a little over a week ago, and one of the new features I'm most excited to try is Cardiovascular Load. While a user sleeps, the watch analyzes how much stress their daily routine is putting on their cardiovascular system. If deemed too high, the watch will warn you and presumably offer suggestions to improve your heart health. It's worth noting that as of right now, Cardiovascular Load is only promised for the Galaxy Watch Ultra (you also need the latest Galaxy S25 phone). Hmmm. That seems to suggest that the forthcoming Galaxy Watch 8 series devices will almost certainly offer the tool, too. The other forthcoming holistic feature I'm eager to try — also announced as part of One UI 8 — is Samsung's new Antioxidant Index screening tool. Using the existing onboard sensors found in the Galaxy Watch Ultra — Samsung makes no promises of this feature being supported by the Watch 7despite the two having matching sensor arrays — it can detect the level of carotenoids (antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables) currently stored in your skin. Think of it as a virtual parent or guardian, ever-present to remind you to eat healthy. Again, like Cardio Load, the new Antioxidant Index tool is all but certain to be a marquee health feature of the Galaxy Watch 8. This is a first-of-its-kind function for a smartwatch (as far as I'm aware), and though the concept sounds a little bit like science fiction, if it works reliably, it could be a super useful way to encourage better eating habits on the daily (and one I'm sure other brands will be eager to rip off).

Reserve a Galaxy Z Flip 7 or Galaxy Z Fold 7 and get a free $50 credit at Samsung — here's how

The next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event is slated for July 9. Although nothing has been confirmed, we expect Samsung to unveil its new Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Watch 8. If you're planning on purchasing any of the new devices, Samsung is offering a free $50 credit when you reserve right now. Additionally, you'll get an enhanced trade-in value should you purchase Samsung's new phone. It's worth noting that there's no obligation to follow through on that pre-order. (For more deals, check out our guide to the best Samsung promo codes). Galaxy Z Series: free $50 credit @ SamsungGet a free $50 Samsung credit when you register your interest in one of Samsung's new Galaxy Z phone launches. The site doesn't mention the Z Fold 7 or Z Flip 7 by name, but all signs point to this being what gets announced on July 9. Additionally, you'll get an enhanced trade-in credit when you trade-in your old phone. This offer is valid through July 8. The current-gen Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 are among the best foldable phones we've reviewed. To top its current flagships, it's rumored that Samsung's new foldables will be thinner, pack better cameras, and offer more AI features. Samsung is reportedly taking its cues from the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition that was exclusive to Korea last year. That means an interior display of 8 inches, compared to the 7.6-inch panel that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 offers when unfolded. We're expecting a bigger cover display as well. The Galaxy Z Fold 6's external display measures 6.3 inches, but that's supposedly expanding to 6.5 inches with this year's Fold. As far as chipset, it's possible Samsung's new foldables will pack the Snapdragon 8 Elite found in the Galaxy S25 lineup. Whether you decide to buy it or not, the free $50 Samsung credit is a no brainer as there's not commitment involved. Otherwise, you could wait for the supposed iPhone 17 Air.

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Event In July Confirmed: Galaxy Z Fold 7 And More Expected

Last Updated: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 launch event has been confirmed for early July in New York and we could see other products like Watch and Buds announced. Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event for July 2025 has been officially confirmed by the company this week and that means it is time for the new Folds, Flips and the Watches. The new launch event comes with the tagline, 'The Ultra Experience is Ready to Unfold," which once again confirms the products that will be part of the launch event early next month. We've had the launch date details leaked earlier this month, and now Samsung is handing out the official dates for the new devices. The Samsung Galaxy Unpacked July 2025 event will be on Wednesday, July 9 from Brooklyn in New York, US at 7:30 PM IST for those watching in India. And as every year, the launch event will be streamed via Samsung's YouTube channel or the official website. The silhouette of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in the new teaser leaves little to imagination, at least from the way it looks on the side and you cannot argue that the Fold 7 model does look thinner than the previous Fold versions that Samsung has launched till date. The company talks about its focus on making a product that is portable yet functional to operate with a large screen. Recently, Samsung talked about bringing an Ultra experience to its next Fold which many people thought was hinting towards a new variant which is not the case. The company is also quick to highlight the Galaxy AI features that will be part of the device and with the new design gives you better ways to make use of the smart replies features for your emails on-the-go. We might also see the new Galaxy Watch 8 series and the Galaxy Buds 4 models announced on the same day. The company recently shared a list of health features that will be available with the One UI 8 update for Watch. Samsung needs a strong product launch this year to show it is serious in the foldable arena. The Galaxy S25 Edge is a sign that the brand is willing to try new things, but with the Fold series, we need something better and stronger. It could also use the event to tease the rumoured tri-fold device and probably announce the Samsung XR headset. First Published: June 24, 2025, 10:39 IST

What to expect at the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked

The next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event could be announced any day now. The summertime event usually happens in July or August. No date has been officially set, but at least one rumor suggests that it will all go down on July 9 at 10AM ET, and New York City is being floated as the likely location. Whenever it happens, we expect that the next Unpacked will center on the latest developments to Samsung's lines of foldables and wearables. A lot of it may be business as usual, but the company has hinted that some possibly exciting new additions are in the works. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 (Sam Rutherford for Engadget) Based on the usual annual cadence, this summer Unpacked 2025 will most likely introduce the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. One recent leak claimed that Gemini Live will be a core part of the foldables' presentation, and considering AI is the buzzword for every tech presentation these days, it would be strange if Unpacked didn't follow suit. AI features got a positive reception from both our Fold 6 and Flip 6 reviewers, although they fell more under the umbrella of parlor tricks than valuable assets. Android Headlines is back with renders of what it claims show the design of the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The foldable sports a slimmer profile than the prior model and the navy blue chassis is certainly pretty. It also indicates that both the cover display and inner display are reportedly bigger in this design, up to 6.5 inches and 8.2 inches, respectively. The publication also showed purported images of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 that also pointed to increased screen real estate. There may be a third player in the foldables lineup for this Unpacked. A teaser from Samsung last month pointed toward a Galaxy Z Fold Ultra that will come with Galaxy AI. There are no specs in the blog post, but the company insists that this will have "industry-leading hardware, cutting-edge performance and seamless AI integration optimized for the foldable format." This doesn't appear to be the tri-fold design we've heard rumblings about, but that would be a fun reveal if Samsung does pull that off as a surprise announcement. Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 (Amy Skorheim for Engadget) On the wearables front, the only thing we're really anticipating is news about the Galaxy Watch 8. But the anticipation is pretty mild. This smartwatch collection from Samsung hasn't really pushed the envelope for several years; the Galaxy Watch 7 was the third iteration where our reviewers felt the new model offered only incremental improvements over the previous generation. So either this Unpacked will be yet another round of small gains on the specs or Samsung will surprise us with some substantial upgrades. Improved battery life would be a big plus. For the past few weeks, Samsung fans have been speculating that a new smartphone announcement could be on the way soon. Although the company's standard mobile hardware is usually unveiled at the start of the year, we've seen some credible rumors that a new Galaxy S25 FE is in the works. If Samsung is looking to release a new version to that line in the fall, it would make sense to announce and open pre-orders at the summer Unpacked. The Galaxy S24 FE had some solid specs but was a little pricey to be a true budget model, especially with an underwhelming set of AI features. So far, the leaks about the S25 FE also point toward continued underwhelm, with claims that its cameras won't be seeing much in the way of upgrades, although it may be getting a boost to performance and battery if rumors that it will use the Exynos 2400 processor turn out to be true. We'll be keeping you posted with all the Unpacked news as it happens, as well as covering the event with a liveblog, so stay tuned!
