Jignesh Mevani calls upon people to open ‘Samvidhan Shakhas' to counter RSS
Accusing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of resolving to defeat the Constitution, MLA from Gujarat Jignesh Mevani has called upon people to form 'Samvidhan Shakhas' to counter the RSS and its shakhas. Mr. Mevani, addressing the 'Samvidhana Samrakshakara Samavesha', a convention of the 'protectors of the Constitution' in Davangere on Saturday, accused the RSS and the BJP of having resolved to defeat B.R. Ambedkar's Constitution. 'The only way to oppose the efforts of the RSS is to launch Samvidhan Shakhas against RSS shakhas. You should start groups in your districts, taluks, and hoblis to oppose the RSS,' he called upon the people gathered at the convention. Tamil Nadu MP and former IAS officer Sasikanth Senthil called upon people to join the efforts to protect the Constitution, which has to be safeguarded for the benefit of future generations. Noted economist Parakala Prabhakar said, 'For the last 100 years, there has been a group of people working against the constitutional values. I was worried about the absence of an army to defend the Constitution. Now, after seeing the gathering here, my worry has gone,' he said. Writer Baragur Ramachandrappa, who inaugurated the convention, said the true patriots are those who respect the Constitution, fight for equality, and work towards ensuring harmony. During the freedom struggle, he said, both Ashfaqulla Khan and Ram Prasad fought together, and the British hanged them on the same day, which, he said, showed 'the character of true India'. Referring to the recent terror attack in which tourists were killed, he said, 'The developments that occurred after the incident exhibited the true spirit of India. The local Muslim people came to the rescue of tourists. This is true India.' Noor Sridhar of Eddelu Karnataka, one of the organisers of the event, said the objective of the convention was to motivate people to join the campaign to defend the Constitution. 'We have set a goal of preparing at least one lakh citizens to actively defend the Constitution,' he said.
