Patrick Bailey's clutch 2-run triple lifts Giants over White Sox, 3-1

Patrick Bailey hit a go-ahead two-run triple in the sixth inning, and the San Francisco Giants ended a three-game skid with a 3–1 win over the Chicago White Sox on Friday night. Landon Roupp (6–5) won his second straight start and third out of his last four after giving up an unearned run and seven hits with four strikeouts and a pair of walks in 5 1/3 innings. Bailey laced the decisive hit down the right-field line off reliever Tyler Alexander (4–8) to break a 1–all tie. Camilo Doval worked the ninth for his 13th save. San Francisco was swept at home by Miami earlier in the week and began a 10-game road trip having lost eight of their last 11 games. The AL-worst White Sox have lost 12 of 15. Chicago got the game's first run when Chase Meidroth came home on a first-inning throwing error. The Giants knotted the score on Wilmer Flores' RBI double in the third. White Sox right-hander Aaron Civale, making his first home start since arriving in a mid-month trade with Milwaukee, gave up a run, three hits, and four walks with four strikeouts in four innings. Key moment: Chicago loaded the bases with one out in the fourth and fifth innings but came up empty each time. Roupp escaped by inducing a double play in the fourth and delivered a strikeout and an easy popup to end the fifth. Key stat: The White Sox came into the game as the worst team in the majors with men in scoring position and stayed that way on Friday night. They went 1 for 8 in such at-bats against the Giants to drop to .210 (130 for 620).

Patrick Bailey's 2-run triple helps Giants top White Sox

June 28 - Wilmer Flores doubled home a run, Patrick Bailey tripled in a pair and the San Francisco Giants opened a 10-game trip with a 3-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Friday night. Landen Roupp (6-5) and four relievers helped the Giants rebound from a three-game home sweep at the hands of the Miami Marlins. San Francisco earned just its fourth victory in the past 12 contests. After the White Sox took advantage of a San Francisco error to go up 1-0 in the first, the Giants did the rest of the scoring, beginning with Flores' two-out double in the third. The hit scored Bailey, who had led off the inning with a walk issued by Chicago starter Aaron Civale. The RBI was Flores' team-leading 55th of the season. That was the only run allowed by Civale in four laborious innings. He needed 80 pitches to get 12 outs, during which he allowed three hits and four walks. He struck out four. The Giants broke the tie against reliever Tyler Alexander (4-8) in the sixth. Willy Adames walked and Christian Koss singled with one out to set the stage for Bailey, who cleared the bases with his triple to right field. The triple was just the fourth of Bailey's three major league seasons, a career-best second this year. Roupp faced just two batters -- retiring one -- in the last of the sixth before turning the ball over to the bullpen. He wound up allowing seven hits, two walks and the one unearned run. He struck out four. Chicago's run was the product of an error by Adames, the Giants' shortstop, that allowed Chase Meidroth to scamper home from second base. Giants reliever Ryan Walker completed the sixth without incident. Randy Rodriguez and Tyler Rogers followed with a hitless inning apiece, and Camilo Doval threw a 1-2-3 ninth for his 13th save. In all, the San Francisco relievers retired 11 of the 12 batters they faced. Koss was the only Giant with two hits -- a couple of singles. Seven players had one hit -- each a single -- for the White Sox, who had won three of their previous six games after opening the season 23-52. Chicago was held to one or no runs for the 23rd time this year. --Field Level Media

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt Snaps Up A $24 Million San Francisco Apartment To Add To His Global Property Portfolio

He has just scooped up a $24 million co-op in San Francisco's exclusive Pacific Heights neighborhood, a decade after its previous owner paid $32 million for it and embarked on an extensive renovation, The Wall Street Journal reports. Schmidt, worth $23 billion, has been on an extensive real estate shopping spree recently. Last month, he spent over $55 million on a London mansion in the upscale Holland Park area, according to the Financial Times. As with that investment, his latest purchase was purely as an investment, the Journal reported. Schmidt and his wife, Wendy, have a global property portfolio comprising homes in New York City, Los Angeles, Montecito, California; Rhinebeck, New York; Washington, D.C.; Miami Beach, Florida; and Nantucket, Massachusetts, according to the Journal. In addition, the outlet reported, the Schmidt Family Foundation purchased 350 acres of land in Montecito, which will remain undeveloped as a preserve. The seller, Chris R. Redlich Jr., is taking the nearly $10 million loss on his home. He was a retired shipping executive who initially used the historic co-op as a primary residence before embarking on an extensive renovation with interior designer Suzanne Tucker. 'Like all remodels, it started out with us saying, 'Oh, let's just move this over there,' he told the Journal. 'It ended up as a complete design.' The 5,700-square-foot home features three bedrooms, wraparound terraces with views of the Golden Gate and the Bay bridges, two kitchens, and a private elevator opening directly into the marble-clad entry area. Redlich appeared to chalk up his loss to the cost of doing business in California and, in 2024, paid a further $32 million for a home set on 50 acres in Nashville. 'The taxes were too high relative to what we were getting,' Redlich told the Journal. 'I wouldn't put a business in California now on a bet.' He added, 'On my balance sheet, I'd already reserved a big discount on that place and our discount number was relatively close to what it ended up being,' he said. Investing and philanthropy have been the twin pillars of Schmidt's life since he stepped down from the board of Google's parent company, Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG, GOOGL)), in 2019 and his role as technical advisor in 2020. Notable investments since have included Uber (NASDAQ:UBER), SoFi (NASDAQ:SOFI), and Zymergen through Innovation Endeavors, a company he co-founded. He has funded multiple eco-based initiatives through The Schmidt Family Foundation. See Next: $100k in assets?
