AP allocated over Rs 375 cr for tourism projects
New Delhi: The Union ministry of tourism has sanctioned projects worth Rs 375.07 crore for Andhra Pradesh in the fiscal year 2024-25 under various Central sector schemes, Union tourism minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat informed Rajya Sabha on Thursday. Responding to questions by MPs Sana Satish Babu and Beeda Masthan Rao Yadav, the minister said that schemes like Swadesh Darshan, Swadesh Darshan 2.0, Challenge-Based Destination Development (CBDD), and PRASHAD are aimed at strengthening tourism infrastructure in coordination with state efforts. Key projects include development of the Suryalanka Beach Experience with Rs 97.52 crore and the Borra Caves–Araku–Lambasingi circuit with Rs 29.87 crore under Swadesh Darshan 2.0. Under the CBDD scheme, Rs 25 crore each has been allocated for Ahobilam and Nagarjuna Sagar Buddhist heritage projects. Additionally, under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme, Rs 77.91 crore has been proposed for Gandikota's fort and gorge area, and Rs 94.44 crore for the Akhanda Godavari project in Rajamahendravaram. The PRASHAD scheme will fund Rs 25.33 crore for infrastructure development at Annavaram temple town. Minister Shekhawat also mentioned that three earlier-approved projects worth Rs 124.89 crore are still under implementation, and Rs 147.46 crore was spent between 2014–18 under the original Swadesh Darshan scheme for coastal and Buddhist circuit development in the state.

APL Season 4 is set to begin from August 8
VISAKHAPATNAM: The Andhra Premier League (APL) Season 4 is set to begin from August 8 at the ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The details were announced at a press conference held at the stadium on Saturday by APL Governing Council Chairman Rao Venkata Sujay Krishna Ranga Rao and Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Sana Satish Babu. Ranga Rao said the tournament will be held in IPL format, and will be conducted in a more organised and grand manner than previous seasons. 'This year, seven franchises have come forward to participate, as compared to six in earlier seasons. The franchise fee, which was Rs 75 lakh in previous editions, has now been increased to Rs 2 crore. The player pool has also grown from 430 to 520 cricketers. Players have been divided into four categories including Top-seeded players (including former India and IPL players), Grade A (21 players), Grade B (112 players), and Grade C (378 players),' he said. The player auction will take place at Radisson Blu Hotel in Visakhapatnam on July 14. Teams have already retained some of their main players from previous seasons. This season will include 21 league matches and four playoffs, making it a total of 25 matches. Satish said all matches of this season will be held in Vizag. He informed that from next year, APL matches will be held in different regions, including Mangalagiri, Vizag, and Kadapa. He added that companies like Steel Exchange of India and Maitri have joined this season as franchise owners.

ICC Women's World Cup returns to Vizag after 28 years
In yet another feather to its cap, the 'city of destiny' will host five ICC Women's World Cup 2025 matches this October. The ICC and BCCI officially released the tournament schedule on June 16, confirming Vizag as one of four Indian host cities, alongside Indore, Bengaluru, and Guwahati. For the cricket lovers from the State, the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Vizag will host two marquee India matches against powerhouses Australia and South Africa. As per the schedule released, the tournament will kick off on September 30 between co-hosts India and Sri Lanka at Bengaluru. Vizag's World Cup fixtures begin on October 9 with India vs South Africa, followed by New Zealand vs Bangladesh on October 10. The much-anticipated India vs Australia clash is set for October 12, while South Africa will face Bangladesh on October 13. The final fixture in Vizag will be held on October 16, featuring Australia vs Bangladesh. Rajya Sabha MP and Secretary of the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA), Sana Satish Babu, shared his excitement on social media platform 'X', said 'The ACA is excited and proud to host the Women's World Cup 2025 in Andhra Pradesh. Our very own ACA-VDCA Stadium will witness world-class cricket as the best women's teams battle it out on our soil.' It may be noted that the last Women's World Cup match hosted by the State was in 1997, when England took on Pakistan. A busy cricket season ahead Cricket fans in Vizag are in for a treat well beyond October. Following the Women's World Cup matches, the Men's Indian Cricket Team will play an ODI against South Africa on December 6, 2025, at the ACA VDCA stadium. This match will be the final ODI of South Africa's tour, which includes two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is, starting in November. Cricket fans may get a chance to witness Indian cricket icons like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in action during the December ODI. Vizag will also host a T20 International between India and New Zealand on January 26, 2026. The New Zealand tour to India will include three ODIs and five T20Is, beginning on January 11, 2026.
