Uttar Pradesh's Hapur city faces severe waterlogging after heavy rainfall

Hapur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 30 (ANI): The Monsoon arrived eight days earlier in India, making several cities experience heavy rainfall and waterlogging, disrupting the lives of people. The Hapur city of Uttar Pradesh is also facing severe waterlogging after incessant rainfall in the area. India welcomed the monsoon on Sunday, arriving eight days ahead of its expected onset date of July 8, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into the remaining parts of Rajasthan, western Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, covering the entire Delhi region, according to the IMD. Meanwhile, low pressure area over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts persisted over the same region at 0830 hrs IST today. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6km above mean sea level. This is likely to move slowly west-north-westwards across North Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal & Jharkhand. The IMD issued a red alert for multiple districts in Himachal Pradesh, as the state continued to experience heavy rainfall, particularly in Mandi, resulting in flooding of the Beas River. Earlier, the Meteorological Centre in Shimla issued an orange alert for Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, Kullu, and Mandi, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Speaking to ANI, Sandeep Kumar Sharma, a Senior Scientist at the IMD's Shimla Centre, said that the state has experienced widespread rainfall over the past 24 hours, with some areas recording intense precipitation. 'Almost all regions in Himachal Pradesh received rainfall during the past 24 hours. The highest rainfall was recorded in Palampur at 76 mm, followed by Banjar at 75 mm. Moderate rainfall of around 55 mm was recorded in Sirmaur. People should stay away from rivers and streams; landslide risk remains high,' Sharma said. Temporary weather relief was expected on June 28, but intense rains were forecasted to return on June 29 and 30. According to Sharma, June 28 was expected to bring a slight dip in rainfall activity, but higher reaches and mid-hill areas may still receive moderate showers. However, the weather was expected to worsen again by June 29 and 30. (ANI)

Cloudburst in Himachal triggers flash floods, washes away vehicles, yellow alert issued for May 27, 28

Himachal Pradesh cloudburst: Himachal Pradesh's Rampur, on Saturday was gripped by chaos as a sudden cloudburst unleashed flash floods and torrential rainfall, leaving the region reeling in its aftermath. At least 5 to 6 vehicles were washed away, while 24-25 others were heavily damaged. Anni MLA Lokender Kumar said that water entered inside houses of people and demanded immediate relief work and proper assessment of losses for providing compensation. Himachal Pradesh has been witnessing widespread rainfall across the entire state over the past 24 hours. The local meteorological centre issued a 'yellow' warning for thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds at speeds of 40 to 50 kilometre per hour (kmph) in all 12 districts on May 27 and 28. The warning has been issued for Sirmaur, Solan, Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Kangra, and Chamba districts on May 25 and 26, the centre said. Although the weather in Himachal Pradesh remained mostly dry on Saturday, a wet spell has been forecast for the next six days. According to the Himachal Pradesh Meteorological Centre based in Shimla, the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours was recorded in Paonta Sahib, Sirmaur district, which received 107 mm of rain. This was followed by 103 mm of rainfall in Kandaghat, located in Solan district. In comparison, Rampur received 28 mm of rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that this wet spell has been ongoing for the past four to five days and is expected to persist. Senior Scientist at the Shimla Meteorological Centre, Sandeep Kumar Sharma said, "Over the last 24 hours, the day temperatures across the state have remained near normal. However, we have observed a drop in the minimum temperatures by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in most areas. For instance, Shimla recorded a minimum temperature of 12 degrees Celsius, which is four degrees below the seasonal average." He added that the lower minimum temperatures are the result of persistent cloud cover and continuous rainfall over the past few days, which is preventing heat from being retained overnight. "This pattern is typical during prolonged wet spells," he explained. Sandeep Kumar Sharma stated that there may be some relief on May 26, when rainfall activity is expected to decrease slightly. However, a fresh spell of widespread rainfall is likely to affect the state again from May 27 to May 29. The IMD has also issued a hailstorm alert for May 27 and 28 in several districts, including Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Sirmaur, Shimla, and Solan. Residents and farmers in these districts are advised to take necessary precautions, as hailstorms can cause damage to crops and infrastructure

He added that Bilaspur received the highest rainfall with 74 mm, followed by Kandaghat in Solan district with 67 mm. Hailstorms were reported in Shimla and Kasauli, and strong winds were recorded at several stations. Looking ahead, the IMD forecast indicates the possibility of light to moderate rain in the plains and mid-hill regions from May 5 to May 8, while higher reaches are likely to witness snowfall. These weather activities are expected to persist over the next 4 to 5 days. Live Events Additionally, night-time thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely between May 5 and May 9, particularly in Chamba, Kangra, Una, Bilaspur, and Hamirpur districts. Isolated hailstorms are expected in Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Solan, Sirmaur, and Kangra. In view of this, alerts have been issued for May 5 and 6. After May 9, a decrease in weather activity is anticipated. However, light rain may still occur in a few places in the mid-hill districts on May 10 and 11. In terms of temperature, Una recorded the highest maximum temperature at 35.2 degrees Celsius, while Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti reported the lowest minimum temperature at 4.2 degrees Celsius. In Solan, the maximum temperature was 30degrees Celsius, which is a significant 10 degrees below normal, while Mandi recorded 27.8degrees Celsius, about 5 degrees below average. Weather conditions are expected to become active again from this evening, with increased cloud cover and consistently lower-than-average temperatures expected to persist. According to IMD data, rainfall for the month of May so far has been 22% above normal across the state. However, some districts, including Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti, have received below-average rainfall, while six districts have recorded above-normal rainfall, and the rest are close to average. The IMD has maintained a hailstorm alert for May 5 and 6 in districts including Shimla, Kangra, and Mandi. Thunderstorms are expected to continue across the state (excluding Lahaul-Spiti) over the next five days, with intermittent clear weather periods. However, light to moderate rainfall will persist in many areas, and gusty winds may occur in some districts.
