John Daly is one of the headliners at this upcoming PGA Tour Champions event

John Daly, a two-time major champion, has committed to play in the Sanford International golf tournament, a PGA Tour Champions event scheduled for later this year in Sioux Falls. Daly won the 1991 PGA Championship and the 1995 Open Championship, and he has one Champions Tour title on his resume – a victory at the 2017 Insperity Invitational. In Sioux Falls, Daly will compete with a field that also includes Angel Cabrera, the winner of the 2007 U.S. Open and the 2009 Masters, and Ken Duke, who has posted three top-12 finishes at the Sanford International, a July 9 news release from Sanford Health says. Daly, 59, did not play in the 2025 PGA Championship, held at Quail Hollow Golf Club in North Carolina, citing a scheduling conflict with another tournament. He struggled in four Champions Tour starts this season after returning from hand surgery, USA TODAY reported in May. When is the Sanford International golf tournament? Running for tomorrow; raising brain tumor awareness

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – May marks brain tumor awareness month as one Sioux Falls nurse is sharing her cancer journey in hopes of raising more awareness. Doctors diagnosed Sara Beck with a grade four brain tumor in April 2024. Now, following brain surgery and months of treatment, Beck is back to work at Sanford Children's Hospital, where she says her life the past year has helped her connect better with patients. Veterans talk real reason for Memorial Day 'I feel like I can empathize with families a little bit more with things that they're going through because I've kind of been down that same road,' Beck said. During surgery, doctors were able to remove over 90% of the brain tumor. 'She's done very well, had a very good surgery. So that's from a prognosis standpoint, one of the key parts of it. And it's good quality of life too. And where the tumor is at, and how good of a surgery you have is often the big implications for their quality of life,' Sanford Health medical oncologist, Dr. Travis Snyders said. Beck says running has been a major outlet while undergoing treatment, taking part in the Sioux Falls half marathon and other local races since her diagnosis. One race even took her across the country. 'I joined the Grey Nation Endurance team for brain tumor awareness and was able to do some fundraising and do a Disney Half-Marathon. So that was pretty cool,' Beck said. Beck says she's looking forward to more races as she finishes up her last rounds of treatment.'Sara was fortunate in that she had a good resection, and the part of the brain where it was at was not as much of an impact on her motor and function day to day,' Synders said. She plans to continue running and raising awareness for brain cancer. 'Just makes me feel alive, so that's important. And just a great way to start the day,' Beck said. Next week, Beck plans to run another half-marathon in Deadwood. She also plans to run the Sioux Falls half marathon in September. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Second food pantry opens at Sanford to help patients

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – It's estimated that 106 thousand people in South Dakota are food insecure and when families go hungry it can seriously impact their health. That's why Sanford Health has taken on a holistic approach to help patients who struggle to afford putting food on their table. The Kid's Kitchen inside MB 3 on Sanford's main campus opened just two weeks ago and already it's helped quite a few patients. 'The first week we served over 50 families; last week, I think about 70 families,' Karen Wingler with Sanford Health said. Could Trump's reconciliation bill impact SNAP benefits? This is the second Kid's Kitchen at Sanford. The first opened two years ago in the Children's Hospital. 'And they serve about 100 families a week,' Wingler said. 'So, when they looked at it, they just felt like we needed to add to that and that we have patients in the women's clinics that also needed the service.' The food and hygiene products in the pantry are solely for patients and their families who need some extra help. 'When patients come in, the nurses are screening them. If they have any kind of food insecurity, if they won't be able to buy food before their next paycheck, they qualify,' Wingler said. 'We offer them the option, we can send some food home with them. We're offering two to three meals, per person in their household.' Just one more way Sanford is working to keep people healthy. 'We determined that many of our patients had food insecurities and just really needed help with that. So, we want them to come to their appointment, clearly, and when they do that, they get the opportunity to take home some food with them,' Wingler said. All the food for the pantries are donated by Feeding South Dakota and hygiene products are donated by staff and community members. Sanford is looking for volunteers to help run the pantry, to learn more about those opportunities click here. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Northeast North Dakota, northwest Minnesota hospitals among top critical access hospitals in U.S.

May 21—HILLSBORO, N.D. — Several hospitals in northeast North Dakota and one in northwest Minnesota received spots on the National Rural Health Association's top critical access hospital lists for 2025. The three categories were "2025 Top 20 Critical Access Hospital" overall winners, "Best Practice in Quality" recipients and "Best Practice in Patient Satisfaction" recipients. A press release by Sanford Health said the hospitals are chosen based on the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX, which has eight indices of performance — inpatient market share, outpatient market share, patient perspective, cost, charge, finance, quality and outcomes. The top 20 critical access hospitals were chosen from the Chartis Center for Rural Health's 2025 top 100 critical access hospital list, the release said. Sanford Hillsboro Medical Center was one of the recipients for Best Practice in Quality, alongside Pembina County Memorial Hospital in Cavalier and Towner County Medical Center in Cando. Jac McTaggart, Sanford Hillsboro's CEO, said the facility takes pride in being a national rural health care leader. "This honor recognizes the dedication of our talented staff members to provide world-class health care to our patients and community," McTaggart said. "It is our mission to provide the highest of care to our communities right here in their own backyards." Regional recipients of Best Practice in Patient Satisfaction included Towner County Medical Center as well as Kittson Healthcare in Hallock, Minnesota. The overall 2025 Top 20 Critical Access Hospital list featured Towner County Medical Center and CHI St. Alexius Health Carrington in Carrington, North Dakota.
