EXPIRED A thunderstorm warning has been issued for central Seminole County until 2:45 PM. This includes Sanford and Oviedo. Movement is to the east at 20 mph. Winds over 50 mph, intense lightning and hail are the biggest threats. A 58 mph gust was measured at Orlando/Sanford International Airport. John Daly is one of the headliners at this upcoming PGA Tour Champions event
John Daly, a two-time major champion, has committed to play in the Sanford International golf tournament, a PGA Tour Champions event scheduled for later this year in Sioux Falls. Daly won the 1991 PGA Championship and the 1995 Open Championship, and he has one Champions Tour title on his resume – a victory at the 2017 Insperity Invitational. In Sioux Falls, Daly will compete with a field that also includes Angel Cabrera, the winner of the 2007 U.S. Open and the 2009 Masters, and Ken Duke, who has posted three top-12 finishes at the Sanford International, a July 9 news release from Sanford Health says. Daly, 59, did not play in the 2025 PGA Championship, held at Quail Hollow Golf Club in North Carolina, citing a scheduling conflict with another tournament. He struggled in four Champions Tour starts this season after returning from hand surgery, USA TODAY reported in May. When is the Sanford International golf tournament? The Sanford International will be played at Minnehaha Country Club during the week of Sept. 8-14, with a $2.2 million purse at stake. The tournament is in its eighth year. ‘Greats of the Game' event to debut at Sanford International
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Sanford Sports announced a new event featuring two golf legends and two Pro Football Hall of Fame members. Sir Nick Faldo, Andy North, Cris Carter and Ronde Barber will be part in the inaugural event. The 'Greats of the Game' will be a nine hole event, played on Saturday, September 13 at the Sanford International. 'We have been eager to bring back a special on-course event for the fans during the Saturday of the Sanford International, and this lineup of athletes and format is the perfect fit,' said Davis Trosin, tournament director of the Sanford International. 'Andy is the quintessential ambassador of the game, and we are excited to welcome Sir Nick, Cris and Rondé to Sioux Falls for an event that will bring a new level of excitement to tournament weekend.' Faldo is a six time major championship winner who has 43 professional wins on his resume, including three Masters Tournament victories.
