The Tears Behind the Warrior: Kylie Padilla and the Battle She Never Chose

Y ou think you know Kylie Padilla. The face of strength. The woman who once ruled the realm of Encantadia with unwavering command. But in our interview for GMA Integrated News, Kylie revealed something far more compelling than any scripted storyline: A reckoning with her past, and the personal cost of stepping away from a role she wasn't ready to let go of. What began as a conversation about her present work, the new Afternoon Prime series, "My Father's Wife," quietly drifted to a memory she still carries with visible weight: her brief return to Encantadia, and the heartbreak of watching her character, Amihan, continue without her. 'Bittersweet,' she said, without hesitation. 'Kasi I know my role in the whole series. Super ganda ng mangyayari kay Amihan, especially sa birth ng new Sang'gres. Kasama si Amihan doon. But then also sad, kasi patay pa rin si Amihan and she's still an Ybtre. Sad nga whenever I watch… and I watch my three sisters nang wala si Amihan. I'm heartbroken every time I watch it.' She didn't dress it up. There was no attempt to package it as a professional sacrifice. It was pain, plainly spoken. K ylie built her version of Amihan with care and conviction. Then, in the middle of it all, she got pregnant. "It was unexpected. I didn't know how I'd still handle it. Siguro nagulat lang din 'yung mga creatives, writers, how to adjust the story. Sobrang malaking — not just regret, it was huge," she said, emphasizing how much she worked hard for her role. She wasn't ready for marriage. She wasn't prepared to walk away. 'Sobrang pinaghirapan ko para lang magustuhan 'yung Amihan ko, 'yung version ni Amihan," Kylie said, adding, "feeling ko kailangan ko pa talagang bumawi. Sana. 'Yun ang expectation ko dito… Dream kong makumpleto kami nang hindi patay si Amihan. Pambawi lang sa mga kapatid ko. It's really painful to see them not complete because of me.' There was no bitterness in her tone, just a lingering ache. A sense that something important was left unfinished. She spoke of it not like a career detour, but like a wound she had long kept tucked away. 'Actually, we never talked about it. Siyempre, kinongratulate, 'happy for you,' pero hindi na namin napag-usapan 'yung—hahaha—'you know' how they felt after I left. Siyempre ako rin may fear ako, baka may disappointment.' That fear—of being the one who left, of being remembered as the one who broke something sacred—still lingers. A nd yet, Kylie's greatest battle isn't onscreen. It's in her day-to-day life as a single mother of two, living with depression, trying to be present for her children while quietly managing what she herself doesn't always understand. 'Ayoko kasing masanay sila ng ganoon. Sometimes, nagtatago na talaga ako because it's not fair for them. Hindi ko pa kasi sila ma-explain, 'cause they're very young. But then again, may reward naman, kasi napaka-caring ng mga anak ko. They're very empathetic. They know now. They write me letters. Ayun nga, niyayakap nila ako.' COURTESY: NELSON CANLAS Then she showed me her tattoo. A red heart, drawn by her son Alas. A child's drawing, handed to her during one of her lowest days. No words, just a simple act of noticing. ''Yun nga 'yung nakatulala lang ako sa bed, tapos nag-do-drawing sila. Wala lang, binigay lang ni Alas. 'For Mama,' sabi niya. 'Open this, Mama.' May heart, tapos 'yun na. Naramdaman niya na malungkot ako.' That image—her son wordlessly offering a drawing to comfort her—says more about love than most grand gestures ever could. "R ight now, I might be struggling. Kasi it's hard to have depression while raising two kids. Kasi minsan, inaatake ako and nandiyan sila and may kailangan sila. Kailangan mong isantabi 'yung nararamdaman mo. And I don't have a partner to help me. So iiyak mo na lang. Wala akong sagot eh. Tago ka sa CR. Iyak mo. Isang hinga lang. And then… 'yes, 'nak, what do you need?' Ganoon. It's my reality.' There's something deeply human about that image of a mother stealing a few seconds in the bathroom to cry, only to step out and resume the role that matters most. And yet, even in the midst of all this, Kylie has found space for something new. Not escape. Not distraction. Something steadier. Right now, she is thankful and hopeful… and admitted she has finally found love again. She didn't elaborate. She didn't need to. The way she said it—with clarity, not urgency—was enough to suggest that maybe, just maybe, she's beginning to make peace with the chapters she never got to finish. And perhaps that's the real story—not the one written in scripts, but the one written in scars, red hearts, and all the small ways we choose to keep going. — LA, GMA Integrated News

Kylie Padilla admits it's painful to see fellow Sang'gres incomplete: 'I'm heartbroken every time I watch it'

Kylie Padilla admitted that it is painful for her to see her "Encantadia" sisters, Glaiza De Castro, Gabbi Garcia, and Sanya Lopez, incomplete because of her exit from the well-loved Kapuso series. In Nelson Canlas' report on "24 Oras," Thursday, the Kapuso actress said their opening scene for "Encantadia Chronicles: Sang'gre" is "bittersweet." "Kasi siyempre I know my role in the whole series. Super ganda ng mangyayari kay Amihan, especially when it comes to the birth of the new Sang'gres. Kasama si Amihan do'n," she said. "But then, also sad, because, 'yon, patay pa rin si Amihan. She's still an Ivtre (spirit). So sad ako nga ako every time na I watch it and I see my three sisters nang wala si Amihan. I'm heartbroken every time I watch it," she added. She also looked back at the time when she had to exit the show after getting pregnant. "Sobrang pinaghirapan ko para lang magustuhan 'yung Amihan ko, 'yung version ni Amihan. And then, at the height, I got pregnant. It was unexpected. And I really didn't know how else to handle it," she said. Kylie acknowledged that her pregnancy may have shocked the project's creatives and writers on how they will adjust the story. "Sobrang malaking ano—not just regret, it's a huge—feeling ko kaya ko pang bumawi. Sana. 'Yun 'yung expectation ko dito. Dream kong mapanood kami ulit na kumpleto kami nang hindi patay si Amihan. Pambawi lang sa mga kapatid ko," she said. "It's really painful to see them not complete just because of me," Kylie said. Per Kylie, she and her "Encantadia" sisters never really talked about their reaction to her sudden pregnancy. "Siyempre kinongratulate. 'Congratulations. Happy for you,' ganiyan. Pero never namin napag-usapan 'yung how they felt after I left. Never. Siyempre ako din may fear ako na baka may disappointment," she said. "Sang'gre" is a spinoff of the iconic Kapuso fantaserye "Encantadia." It will introduce the newest keepers of the brilyantes: Terra (Bianca Umali), Flamarra (Faith Da Silva), Adamus (Kelvin Miranda), and Deia (Angel Guardian). "Sang'gre" airs on GMA Network from Mondays to Fridays at 8 p.m. after "24 Oras." You can also watch it online via the Kapuso Stream on YouTube. —Carby Rose Basina/MGP, GMA Integrated News

Michelle Dee, Mika Salamanca make debut appearances in 'Encantadia Chronicles: Sang'gre'

Michelle Dee and Mika Salamanca just debuted in "Sang'gre," making their striking entrances as Hara Cassandra and Anaca, respectively. Tuesday's episode introduced Hara Cassandra, the queen of Lireo and the current keeper of the air gem. She was born of Lira's hair, Amihan's ashes, and Cassiopeia's blood. She was approached by the three Sang'gres, Alena (Gabbi Garcia), Danaya (Sanya Lopez), and Pirena (Glaiza De Castro), who were worried after Cassiopeia (Solenn Heussaff) shared a haunting vision of a mysterious enemy determined to kill her. Pressed about the fate of her gem, Cassandra said the right heir would come in time. Cassandra eventually ordered Danaya to take Aquil (Rocco Nacino) and their daughter Gaiea (Cassandra Lavarias) to the world of humans without revealing Cassiopeia's dark vision that Gaiea would be killed by humans and therefore wouldn't inherit the earth gem. Meanwhile, in Mine-a-ve, Mitena continued training her people for war, declaring her intent to take over Encantadia. Mika made her first appearance as Anaca, Mitena's majestic white owl who transforms into a humanoid version. She was spying on the Sang'gres and reported to the ice queen that Danaya had gone to the world of humans, news that delighted Mitena. Bianca Umali had also made her first appearance as Terra on the show through another one of Cassiopeia's visions, where she saw the prophecy of a new savior. Terra's character emerged as the foretold protector destined to continue Danaya's legacy. "Sang'gre" airs on GMA Network from Mondays to Fridays at 8 p.m. after "24 Oras." 'Sang'gre' delivers epic pilot episode with dragon, giant, prophecy, and a world of ice

"Sang'gre" delivered a pilot episode of epic proportions as we return to the world of "Encantadia!" The opening scene eased us in with the familiar: a flashback to Pirena, Amihan, Alena, and Danaya, the four Sang'gres we know and love. They were all riding horses towards Lireo, but the first surprise of the episode soon appeared: a dragon with a well-made CGI that made it look straight out of "House of the Dragon." The four Sang'gres decided to use the powers of the gems of fire, air, water and earth to slay the creature, which poses a threat to their kingdom. Like in the magical girl genre, their armors flashed with the power of their elements before they attacked the dragon and ultimately vanquished it. After the dragon, another magical creature appeared: a giant named Arsus, who had been hunting the people of Mine-a-ve and ruling the land of ice with terror. This was where Mitena, the main antagonist of the series, made her entrance. She challenged Arsus to a fight and single-handedly won using her unique sword. After killing the giant, Mitena declared herself the Kera or queen of Mine-a-ve. The people then began to kneel one by one to accept her as their ruler. Before the episode ended, Bathalumang Cassiopeia appeared before Pirena, Danaya, and Alena at the present time. She warned them of an ominous dream that she had: someone from another land will bring her death. The opening billboard of "Sang'gre" was also a thing of beauty, with a nod to the "Game of Thrones" opening. Landscapes and castles are shown, paired with the somber sound of cellos before Julie Anne San Jose comes in with vocals. It all comes together with the vocals of Bayang Barrios from the original theme of the series. The pilot episode was indeed worth the long wait for the "Encantadia" spinoff, which took two years to produce. "Sang'gre" airs weekdays on GMA Prime at 8 p.m. after "24 Oras." The legend continues. ????
