Tata Power Launches Skilling Hub in Delhi to Train Future-Ready Green Workforce
In a push to equip India's youth for the clean energy transition, Tata Power Skill Development Institute has launched a Green Energy Skilling Centre in Rohini, Delhi. The centre will train students in solar power, energy storage, and electrical safety, combining practical tools like simulators and virtual reality. With plans for more such hubs nationwide, the initiative aims to make green jobs more accessible and inclusive. By Riddhima Jain Published on July 14, 2025, 13:12 IST In a step towards building a skilled workforce for India's clean energy future, Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) has launched a new Green Energy Skilling Centre in Rohini, Delhi. The centre aims to equip youth with practical training in renewable energy technologies including solar PV systems, energy storage, pumped hydro storage, and electrical safety. Inaugurated by Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), and Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD of Tata Power, the facility marks TPSDI's 12th training hub across India. It is located within the Cenpeid campus, a training centre of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd. TPSDI will run courses aligned with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and MNRE's PM Surya Ghar Yojana skilling goals. As a dual awarding body under the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), TPSDI will offer nationally recognised certifications for trainees. The launch is part of a larger plan to expand TPSDI's footprint across the country. With over 3.4 lakh individuals trained so far—including 50,000 from affirmative action groups and over 18,000 women—the institute is positioning itself as a key player in India's green energy transition. TPSDI's hands-on approach includes training on life-sized models, simulators, virtual reality, and remote learning via its Virtual Academy of Skills. The Delhi hub will soon be joined by new centres in Ahmedabad, Lucknow, and Cuttack, with plans to establish eight more locations by the end of the year. By combining education with employability and entrepreneurship support, TPSDI hopes to drive both industrial growth and inclusive development in the clean energy sector. Ahmedabad Plane Crash

MNRE, Odisha discuss clean energy roadmap, focus on Green Hydrogen export
New Delhi: Odisha is set to play a key role in India's clean energy transition, with the state aiming to become a major producer and exporter of Green Hydrogen derivatives and intensify rooftop solar adoption under two national flagship schemes. This was reviewed during a high-level meeting chaired by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi and Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja. Highlighting Odisha's potential, the MNRE Secretary said the state is 'uniquely positioned to play a critical role in India's Green Hydrogen scale up' and is attracting 'significant interest from domestic investors' for production of Green Hydrogen derivatives such as Green Ammonia and Green Methanol, particularly near Paradip and Gopalpur ports. According to MNRE, the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) aims to position India as a global hub for Green Hydrogen production, usage, and export. The Odisha government expressed commitment to establish the state as a preferred destination for investment in this sector. The meeting included participation from senior officials of central ministries, state departments, and Green Hydrogen developers, focusing on challenges in developing large-scale Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia projects, particularly at the SEZ in Gopalpur. Chief Secretary Ahuja said Odisha's strategic coastal location, industrial ecosystem, and policy framework make it favourable for Green Hydrogen production and export. He also noted challenges such as water availability, large-scale renewable energy integration, and infrastructure needs. The performance of the state under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY) was also reviewed. MNRE instructed District Collectors to expedite the pace of rooftop solar installations. Ahuja directed officials to conduct regular SLBC meetings, coordinate with vendors and bankers for prompt loan sanctions, and implement the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model with focus on low-income households installing systems below 1 kW. The Ministry shared best practices from other states under PM-KUSUM to scale up agricultural solarisation. The Chief Secretary directed the state nodal agency to adopt Feeder Level Solarisation in Odisha to extend clean energy to the farming community.
