Free STPM Tamil guidebook for 700 students nationwide

KLANG: A total of 700 students taking the Tamil subject in the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination will receive a free specialised guidebook to support their studies. Deputy National Unity Minister K. Saraswathy announced the initiative, highlighting the guidebook's coverage of all three semesters' syllabi. The resource was developed by a team of academics, including professors and Form Six teachers. Saraswathy emphasised that the guidebook will be distributed annually to STPM Tamil students nationwide, particularly those without access to Tamil language teachers. She noted that the Ministry of Education had previously published a similar guidebook in 2018. 'This new publication continues the government's efforts to expand Tamil reference materials and mitigate teacher shortages,' she said during the launch of 'Buku Panduan STPM Bahasa Tamil'. The International Association for Tamil Research (IATR) spearheaded the guidebook's publication, which is not yet commercially available. Saraswathy urged schools to acquire copies to assist students ahead of the STPM exams. At the event, she presented the guidebook to 100 students, stating, 'This book will serve as a vital reference and help bridge gaps in Tamil language education.'

Museums Offer Informal Learning Spaces For Understanding History

TAIPING, June 28 (Bernama) -- Museums serve as effective platforms for informal learning, particularly for schoolchildren, said Deputy Minister of National Unity Senator K. Saraswathy. She said museums enabled schoolchildren to learn in a relaxed setting while allowing visitors to understand history through narratives, visuals and experiential elements rather than just facts. Saraswathy said this approach allowed knowledge to be delivered in a more impactful and enjoyable way. 'Beyond that, museums should be regarded as strategic partners in society. A modern museum must evolve in tandem with the community's progress. 'I hope this institution will serve as a platform for collaboration with various parties, including educational institutions, non-governmental organisations, arts and culture activists, as well as the general public,' she said when officiating the Fiesta Uniti @ Muzium Perak 2025: Penyatuan Dalam Kepelbagaian programme here today. Saraswathy said that through such collaborations, various creative programmes could be organised to expand outreach and ensure that museums remained relevant and influential in the daily lives of the community. Meanwhile, she said the organisation of Fiesta Uniti @ Perak Museum 2025 proved that museums were not merely government agencies preserving historic artefacts but also platforms for the convergence of knowledge, art, culture and unity. 'A harmonious environment allows us to instil positive values such as mutual respect, understanding and trust between races. 'This strong foundation is the pillar of national stability, which directly drives the development and growth of the country's economy,' she said.

Museums as informal learning spaces for history understanding

TAIPING: Museums provide an engaging space for informal learning, especially for schoolchildren, said Deputy Minister of National Unity Senator K. Saraswathy. She emphasised that these institutions allow students to absorb knowledge in a relaxed environment while offering visitors a deeper grasp of history through storytelling, visuals, and hands-on experiences rather than mere facts. Saraswathy noted that this method makes learning more impactful and enjoyable. 'Beyond education, museums should be seen as strategic partners in society. A modern museum must evolve alongside community progress,' she said during the launch of Fiesta Uniti @ Muzium Perak 2025: Penyatuan Dalam Kepelbagaian. She added that collaborations with educational institutions, NGOs, and cultural activists could enhance museum programmes, ensuring their continued relevance. 'Through such partnerships, creative initiatives can broaden outreach and strengthen the museum's role in daily life,' she explained. The deputy minister also highlighted how Fiesta Uniti @ Perak Museum 2025 showcases museums as more than repositories of artefacts. 'They are hubs for knowledge, art, culture, and unity,' she said. A harmonious environment fosters mutual respect and trust among races, forming the foundation for national stability and economic growth. The two-day event features exhibitions of traditional clothing, musical instruments, and accessories from Malaysia's diverse communities, alongside activities like batik painting, rattan weaving, and traditional games.
