Sarawak GOF Seizes Smuggled Items Worth RM1.6 Million, Detained Nine Individuals In Five-day Op Taring
GENERAL KUCHING, July 14 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak Brigade General Operations Force (GOF) seized contraband worth RM1.6 million in six raids conducted under Operation Taring in several districts in the state over five days. Its commander, SAC Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang, said the operation, which involved the cooperation of the intelligence and infantry units from the 10th and 11th PGA Battalions, led to the arrest of nine individuals aged between 24 and 62, including an Indonesian. He said in the operation conducted on July 7 in Bau, a 40-year-old local man was arrested after 350 boxes of frozen food without a valid permit, with an estimated value of RM209,600, were found in his lorry. In the operation conducted on July 8 in Sibu, he said the GOF raided a premises and arrested two men, a local and an Indonesian, aged 24 and 40, respectively. "Also seized were 238 kilogrammes of frozen food, a forklift and a vehicle with a total value of RM479,099," he said in a statement here today Meanwhile, in an operation conducted on July 9, Che Ghazali said a 34-year-old local man was arrested in Lundu for transporting diesel without a permit, leading to the seizure of 230 litres of diesel and 10 jerrycans, estimated at RM81,155.50. 'In Kota Samarahan on the same day, two local men aged 26 and 32 were arrested after they were found having 18,000 litres of diesel without a permit. The diesel, 17 IBC tanks, and a tanker lorry with an estimated value of RM218,840 were seized,' he said. In an operation conducted on July 10, he said, the PGA raided a premises in Kuching and seized 4,500 litres of diesel, 13 IBC tanks, two skid tanks, 25 PVC hoses, two pump engines and a tanker lorry. 'Two local men aged 28 and 33 were arrested and the value of the seizure was estimated at RM381,060,' he said.

Sarawak GOF seizes nearly RM20mil worth of e-waste
KUCHING: The Sarawak Brigade General Operations Force (GOF), in an integrated operation with other enforcement agencies, seized electronic waste worth almost RM20 million in six raids conducted in the state. Sarawak GOF deputy commander, Assistant Commissioner Rosdi Inai said the "Op Hazard 2.0 Sarawak" operation, conducted between 10am and 9pm on Monday resulted in 20 arrests, involving 13 locals and seven foreigners. He said the local suspects consisted of 12 men and one woman aged between 24 and 58, while the foreigners involved six men and one woman aged between 21 and 32 years. "The six raids were carried out at several locations suspected of carrying out electronic waste processing activities without a valid license. They involved two locations in Kuching, one in Kota Samarahan, one in Sibu and two in Bintulu," he said in a statement today. Further inspection at the locations involved also found several items suspected to be unprocessed electronic waste, worn-out goods and various types of equipment, with an estimated value of RM19,638,213.45. Rosdi said it was also found that the syndicate involved illegally purchased and collected electronic waste from surrounding areas before sending it to the peninsula to be broken down to obtain precious metals, such as gold, silver and copper that could be recycled. "It is understood that this syndicate also operates in remote premises to avoid detection by the authorities," he said. He said all the suspects had been handed over to the police and the Immigration Department, while the seized items were handed over to the Sarawak Department of Environment and the D4 Criminal Investigation Department for further action. – BERNAMA

Sarawak GOF Seizes Over RM6 Million Worth Of Contraband In Series Of Operations
KUCHING, May 13 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak Brigade General Operations Force (GOF) has made nine significant seizures in a series of three operations codenamed Op Taring Alpha, Op Taring Bravo, and Op Taring Awas, confiscating contraband goods valued at over RM6 million. Sarawak Brigade GOF deputy commander ACP Rosdi Inai said the seizures involved various non-taxable goods and goods without valid permits, across a spectrum of daily consumables like LPG gas, cigarettes, liquor, controlled goods, frozen products and foodstuff. The largest seizure occurred in Miri on May 7, when the GOF 12th Battalion intelligence team raided a storage facility, seizing 7,400 cartons of white cigarettes, 3,160 cartons of kretek cigarettes, and 201 cartons of liquor. 'Three individuals, including an Indonesian national aged between 26 and 29, were arrested. The total value of the seizure was estimated at RM3.09 million,' Rosdi said in a statement today. The second success came on May 11 in Kuching, where a 25-year-old local man was arrested, and 2,848 cartons of cigarettes valued at RM1.01 million were seized. The third success took place on May 10 in the Lundu district, where three men aged between 39 and 45 were arrested with 16,200 kg of onions without permits. The seizure was valued at RM924,000. The fourth success on May 7 saw the arrest of a 49-year-old local man in Bau district, and the seizure of 5,000 kg of frozen meat without valid permits, and a lorry worth RM385,000. The fifth success occurred on May 10 in Lundu, where a 45-year-old local man was arrested with a lorry carrying 4,182 kg of cooking oil without a valid permit. The seizure was valued at RM228,855.80. The sixth success was recorded on May 8 in Debak, when a 40-year-old local man was arrested with 1,260 litres of petrol, 750 litres of diesel, and 20 LPG cylinders suspected of being diverted. The seizure was estimated at RM211,545.50.
