Elderly motorcyclist killed in rear-end crash in Sarikei

SARIKEI (July 26): A 70-year-old man was killed after the motorcycle he was riding was rear-ended by a pickup truck along Jalan Nyelong By-pass here early this morning.
Sarikei police chief, Superintendent Aswandy Anis, said the fatal crash occurred around 6am while the victim was travelling from Meradong towards Sarikei.
'Initial investigation indicates that the motorcycle was hit from behind by a pickup driven by a 55-year-old man,' he said in a statement today.
The victim sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel from Sarikei Hospital.
'His body has since been taken to the hospital for further action, while the pickup driver escaped unhurt,' said Aswandy.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
