Tunisia: Accelerate implementation of priority projects at heart of Megaprojects Commission Meeting
Tunis – To accelerate the implementation of megaprojects and strategic priority initiatives in the sectors of health, transport, higher education, and scientific research took centre stage at the 5th periodic meeting of the Megaprojects Commission, chaired on Tuesday by Prime Minister Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri. The meeting provided an opportunity to review the progress of the ongoing projects and to evaluate proposed solutions to overcome existing challenges, according to a Prime Ministry press release. As part of the recommendations issued during the meeting, the commission called for the immediate resumption of construction work on the Class B Regional Hospital of Sbeïtla, in the governorate of Kasserine, following the selection of a contractor who is expected to complete the project before the end of this year. Likewise, the commission recommended advancing the National School of Engineers of Bizerte project, by selecting a public works company to complete the construction by the first quarter of 2026. The commission also called for the initiation of procedures to launch a call for tenders for the construction of the deep-water port and the associated logistics services zone in Enfidha, in accordance with international standards. Zenzri pointed out on the occasion, the need to accelerate the completion of all planned public projects within their set deadlines, in order to boost regional development, stimulate economic growth, and ensure social justice, thereby fostering investment and creating employment opportunities. Tunisia: Cabinet meeting reviews progress of 2026–2030 Development Plan
Tunis – The progress of the preparation of Tunisia's 2026–2030 Development Plan took centre stage at a Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, chaired by Prime Minister Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri. The meeting laid emphasis on the finalisation of reports regarding the projects proposed by local councils, according to a Prime Ministry press release. The development plan is being drafted through a gradual and participatory process, incorporating a synthesis of proposals submitted at the local, regional, and district levels, the same source specifies. The Cabinet reviewed the preparation process for the new plan, which had included the organisation of five regional meetings across all districts, 3,317 working sessions conducted by 279 local councils, 154 meetings by 24 regional councils, and 12 district council meetings, which had led to the proposal of 35,435 projects, 90.6% of which are locally focused initiatives. The Prime Minister underlined on the occasion, the importance of collective regional efforts to ensure the success of this experience, which is based on a new progressive planning methodology adopted for the first time in Tunisia. Zaafrani Zenzri reiterated that the development plan for 2026–2030 aims to involve all citizens in identifying their regions' priorities, in an effort to overcome the legacy of previous policies characterised by centralised decision-making. Tunisia: PM highlights importance of expanding cooperation in RE and transport in meeting with EBRD President
Seville - Prime Minister Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri during her meeting on Monday in Seville with President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Odile Renaud-Basso, expressed her desire to expand and diversify cooperation between Tunisia and the EBRD to include such promising sectors as renewable energy and transport, particularly in railways and water. Zenzri emphasised Tunisia's commitment to benefiting from the bank's technical expertise to support public institutions and enterprises and boost partnership, especially by providing financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). For her part, EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso reiterated the bank's commitment to continue supporting Tunisia in its reform efforts and in implementing priority projects. Tunisia: International Conference on Financing for Development opens in Seville
Seville - The 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) officially opened Monday in Seville, Spain. The event seeks to reform financing at all levels, mainly by promoting the reform of the international financial architecture and removing obstacles to investment. A Tunisian delegation led by Prime Minister Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri arrived on Sunday morning in the southern Spanish city to attend this four-day meeting (June 30-July 3). Minister of Finance Michket Slama Khaldi and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad and the Ministry of Economy and Planning are part of the delegation. Zenzri is participating in the FfD4 on behalf of President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed. Tunisia and Saudi Fund for Development review cooperation prospects
Tunis – Boosting bilateral cooperation between Tunisia and Saudi Arabia, along with financing several development projects, was the focus of a high-level meeting held Friday at the Government Palace in the Kasbah. The meeting brought together Prime Minister Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri and CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Marshad, accompanied by his delegation. The meetin was also attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Mohamed Ali Nafti, Minister of Economy and Planning Samir Abdelhafidh, and Saudi Ambassador to Tunisia, Abdelaziz bin Ali Al-Saqr, according to a statement from the Prime Ministry. On this occasion, Tunisia and the SFD signed a financing agreement for the "Southern Oasis Hub" project in the governorate of Tataouine. Additional projects will be launched under the 2026–2030 Development Plan, which is based on a new bottom-up participatory approach, incorporating proposals from local, regional, and district councils, culminating in national-level planning. The two parties also discussed prospects for further strengthening bilateral cooperation and explored funding opportunities for priority initiatives aligned with the 2026–2030 development agenda. Prime Minister Zaafrani Zenzri emphasized Tunisia's commitment to accelerating the implementation of all ongoing projects, particularly the "King Salman bin Abdulaziz" University Hospital in Kairouan. For his part, the SFD CEO welcomed the strong Tunisian-Saudi relations across various sectors, attributing the progress to the shared political will of both nations' leadership to deepen strategic cooperation. He reaffirmed the Fund's readiness to support Tunisia through a future cooperation programme aligned with the 2026–2030 Development Plan, particularly in key sectors such as healthcare, infrastructure, renewable energy, digitization, advanced technologies, and agriculture. The meeting was also an opportunity to highlight the close fraternal ties between Tunisia and Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of President Kaïs Saïed and King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
