India football team slip to their worst FIFA ranking in 9 years

The India men's football team recorded their worst ranking in 9 years when they dropped 6 places and are currently placed at 133 in the latest FIFA rankings. The overall chart has world champions Argentina leading at 1, followed by Spain, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Croatia. India has had a dismal time recently having lost both their last two international fixtures where they went down 0-2 to Thailand in a friendly and then were defeated 0-1 by a lower-ranked Hong Kong outfit in an Asian Cup qualifying round match. These two defeats both came in June leading to head coach Manolo Marquez leaving his role. The federation's acting general secretary, M Satyanarayan, told The Indian Express that Marquez and the federation had decided to 'part ways earlier', but the decision was finalised during an Executive Committee meeting earlier this month. 'Mutually, we have agreed to part. It was agreed upon between Manolo and those of us who deal with him on a regular basis and today we placed it in front of the committee,' said Satyanarayan. He further said that the federation doesn't have a potential candidate at the moment to replace Marquez. 'We will take a couple of days to prepare to frame a job profile and then we will put it out. Let everyone apply and then we will take a call,' said Satyanarayan. Under Marquez, the Indian team has just one win from their last 8 matches with the victory coming against Maldives back in March. In 2025, they have played 4, lost 2, won 1 and drawn 1. The results were so poor that India had to bring back their iconic striker Sunil Chhetri from his 2024 retirement but that has done little to change their fortunes. The last time the Indian team had a worse ranking was in December 2016 when it was placed at 135. India's best ever ranking was 94 in February 1996. The Indian team currently has 1113.22 rating points as against 1132.03 previously. It occupies the 24th place among 46 Asian countries led by Japan (17th rank). India's next scheduled international match is an away fixture against Singapore in the third round of Asian Cup qualifiers in October. (With agency inputs)

How Shefali Jariwala Spent Her Final Hours

New Delhi: Actor and model Shefali Jariwala, who became a household name with the 2002 music video Kaanta Laga, died on Friday, June 27. She was 42. While the post-mortem report is still awaited, initial police findings and medical examination suggest a potential cardiac arrest, possibly triggered by a combination of fasting and unsupervised anti-ageing medication. Here's a detailed timeline of events as confirmed by police sources and medical officials: Shefali Jariwala's Final Hours June 27, 2024 (Friday) Shefali Jariwala observed a day-long fast as part of a Satyanarayan puja held at her home in Mumbai. Despite fasting, Shefali consumed her regular anti-ageing medication and also administered a vial of glutathione injection. According to police, she was also taking multivitamins and collagen supplements aimed at maintaining youthful skin. Around 10.30 pm: Shefali collapsed at her residence. At 11.15 pm: She was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in Andheri West, where doctors declared her dead and advised the family to shift her body to Cooper Hospital for post-mortem procedures. "She was brought to the hospital around 11.15 pm (Friday). The on-duty doctor declared her dead on arrival," a hospital source told NDTV. Around 11.30 pm: The Amboli Police Station was informed about the incident. By 11.45 pm: A police team reached Shefali's residence and Cooper Hospital and began initial investigations. Shefali's close friend Pooja Ghai recalled the actress' final moments and told Times Of India, "The moment he (Parag) went down, apparently he was called. The helper at home called him and said, 'Didi is not feeling well.' So, she told him, 'Could you just come up and take care of me?'" June 28, 2024 (Saturday) An autopsy was conducted at Cooper Hospital by a government medical team. As per protocol, the procedure was video-recorded. The post-mortem report is being prepared by a team of five doctors. The viscera was preserved and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Kalina, Mumbai, to help determine the exact cause of death. Medical And Investigative Observations So Far Mumbai Police suspect that self-medication and food poisoning may have triggered a cardiac arrest that led to Shefali Jariwala 's death. According to police sources, the actor consumed stale fried rice while fasting and also took anti-ageing injections without recent medical supervision. Police and forensic science experts who searched her home found glutathione vials -- a drug often used for skin fairness and detoxification -- along with Vitamin C injections, acidity pills and other over-the-counter anti-ageing supplements. Glutathione is often marketed as a skin-brightening and detoxifying agent. It's naturally produced by the body. However, the craze for youthful skin has led many to opt for high-dose intravenous (IV) infusions of glutathione, often without proper medical supervision. Officials said these unsupervised treatments, especially while fasting, can be risky and potentially cause serious complications such as heart failure. A source told NDTV that Shefali had been consuming anti-ageing medicines regularly for the last seven to eight years. Her doctor, who requested anonymity, confirmed that she last visited their clinic in March, around three months before her death. Initial medical findings suggest her death may have been caused by a sharp drop in blood pressure, possibly leading to cardiac arrest. "Shefali's death is said to have been due to low blood pressure, cardiac arrest and heavy gastric condition," according to the findings of the initial medical examination. An autopsy was conducted on June 28 by a team of government doctors at Cooper Hospital and the procedure was video-recorded as per protocol. Her viscera has been preserved and sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Kalina for detailed analysis. While the post-mortem report is expected in two to three days, viscera test results could take up to 50 to 90 days. The case has been registered as an accidental death at Amboli Police Station. Statements have been recorded from Shefali's husband Parag Tyagi, family members, domestic staff and close friends. So far, no suspicion of foul play has been reported. Shefali Jariwala's Final Rites Shefali Jariwala's last rites were performed at the Oshiwara Crematorium in Mumbai on Saturday, June 28. Her father, brother, and husband conducted the final rites according to Hindu traditions. Shefali's husband Parag Tyagi broke down while performing her final rites. Family members, close friends and several television personalities gathered to pay their respects. TV actors Aarti Singh, Mahira Sharma and Rashami Desai were seen at her home, where her body was kept before being taken for cremation. Singer Sunidhi Chauhan also visited Shefali's home and appeared emotional. Paras Chhabra, Hindustani Bhau, Shehnaaz Gill and Vikas Gupta were among others spotted at Shefali's residence. Who Was Shefali Jariwala? Shefali Jariwala rose to fame in 2002 with the music video Kaanta Laga, which became a pop culture phenomenon. Shefali Jariwala's friends reveal shocking details of her final moments, saying she took a vitamin C drip and was fasting for Satyanarayan puja

Actor and dancer Shefali Jariwala, best known for her appearance in the music video Kaanta Laga, died suddenly on June 27. She was 42. Her husband, actor Parag Tyagi, rushed her to Bellevue Multispecialty Hospital in Andheri after she collapsed between 10 and 11 PM, but doctors declared her dead on arrival. Police are now examining whether her long-standing use of anti-ageing treatments, including an IV drip administered on the same day, could be linked to her death. The final cause of death is yet to be confirmed, but a cardiac arrest triggered by unsupervised treatment is suspected. A postmortem has been conducted, and the final medical opinion is awaited. Speaking to Vickey Lalwani, Shefali's close friend and actor Pooja Ghai confirmed that Shefali took a vitamin C IV drip on the same day she passed away.'On that day, she did take the drip, the vitamin C. But like I said, it's a very normal thing to take a vitamin C. I mean, we all take vitamin C, right? I think post-COVID people have just started taking vitamin C as regularly as possible,' Ghai added that she too had taken similar drips in the past. While she was at Shefali's home, the police summoned the person who administered the drip. 'While I was standing there, the police guys called for the guy who gave her the IV drip to just check what was the medicine that she was taking, and that's when it was unfolded that she had taken an IV drip,' she said. Defending the practice, Ghai said that such treatments are not unusual in the entertainment industry. 'It's so common. In fact, if you walk down the streets here in Dubai, you see multiple vitamin C drips at regular clinics and salons. She was in a profession where she had to be her best, and she was her best. She looked the best,' she sources said Shefali had been using anti-ageing infusions and oral medications like glutathione for around ten years. On the day she died, she had been fasting due to a religious puja at home but still took her regular injection of anti-ageing medicine that are looking into whether the IV drip or long-term use of supplements may have contributed to a sudden cardiac arrest. The postmortem has been completed and officers are now analysing the contents of the drip and medicines Pooja Ghai also shared what she learned from Shefali's husband, Parag Tyagi, about the hours leading up to her passing. She said that a religious ceremony had been held at their home earlier that day. When she visited the house the next morning to attend the last rites, she noticed the entire home was decorated for the Satyanarayan said Shefali had eaten dinner and asked Parag to take their elderly pet dog for a walk. Shortly after he stepped out, a domestic helper called him back, saying Shefali was not feeling well. According to Ghai, the helper told Parag, 'Didi is not feeling well,' and Shefali asked him to come back upstairs to be with reportedly handed over the dog to the helper and returned upstairs. When he reached Shefali, he found that she still had a pulse but was unresponsive and her body had gone limp. Ghai said that Parag realised something was seriously wrong and immediately took her to Bellevue Hospital. By the time they arrived, doctors declared her dead on last rites were held at the Oshiwara Hindu crematorium and were attended by her family and close friends.

Shefali Jariwala dies: What happened to the actress right after dinner? Friend Pooja Ghai reveals

Shefali Jariwala dies: What happened to the actress right after dinner? Friend Pooja Ghai reveals Kaanta Laga fame Shefali Jariwala's death came as a shock to many. Her close friend Pooja Ghai recently opened up about the actress's final moments before her demise. According to Pooja, Shefali was on IV drips and her condition became critical. She recounted that the house help saw Shefali wasn't feeling well, and called her husband Parag Tyagi to immediately come upstairs, and check upon her. What happened to Shefali Jariwala's death post-dinner? In an interview with Vickey Lalwani, Pooja Ghai recounted, 'What happened exactly, that we'll know only after the post-mortem. What I have understood from family and Parag Tyagi is that there was this beautiful Satyanarayan ki pooja a day before. The house was still decorated when we brought Shefali for the last rites. She had regular dinner, and then she asked Parag to walk the dog. The moment he went down, the helper at home called him and said, 'Didi ki tabiyat theek nahi hai (Shefali is not feeling well)'.' Did Shefali Jariwala take IV drop on day of death? Ghai further narrated, 'The dog was very old, so Parag asked the helper to come down and take the dog. So he was waiting for the lift, and when the helper came, he went up. Parag said that the pulse was still on, her eyes were not opening, and she just had dead weight to her body. So he realised that something was definitely wrong, and he took her to the hospital, but apparently, when she was brought to the hospital, she was already dead.' Describing her death as 'heart-wrenching,', Shefali recalled that her mother had complained of the chest pain on the night her daughter passed away. She further shared that Shefali used to take Vitamin C IV drips and took one on the night of her death. Pooja revealed that these are drips are considered safe and commonly used in Dubai. Shefali Jariwala died on June 27 at the age of 42.
