Varanasi: Drone cameras and CCTV network will be used to maintain sharp vigil on Muharram processions and Kanwar Yatra to be taken out during Shravan, said Commissioner of Police Mohit Agrawal. While finalising the preparations to ensure law and order during the religious processions, the official instructed to prohibit initiating any new traditions and sought the participation of community members in conducting the religious rituals peacefully. In view of Muharram falling on July 6 and the beginning of the auspicious month of Shrawan, the CP and district magistrate Satyendra Kumar held a meeting with the peace committee, Tazia procession organisers, Kanwariya camp operators, religious leaders, and prominent community members on Saturday evening. They issued guidelines for observing the rituals in a harmonious environment, maintaining peace, and ensuring security arrangements. For proper monitoring of the Tazia processions and the Kanwar Yatra, the CP mentioned that, apart from the deployment of police and paramilitary forces, drones and CCTV cameras will also be utilised for proper surveillance, especially in sensitive areas. No new traditions will be introduced, and all processions will follow the traditional routes. Provocative slogans, weapons, and inflammatory activities are strictly prohibited in Tazia or other religious processions and violations of the norms would lead to strict action. The CP asked the organisers to appoint 20 volunteers at each Tazia Chowk after their police verification for crowd control and maintaining discipline. Special arrangements will be made for the convenience and safety of the devotees in temples during the Shravan month. Officials have asked to keep the sound levels of DJs and drums during Kanwar Yatras within the prescribed decibels. Obscene, provocative, or film songs will be banned during the processions and the height of chariots and DJ vehicles should not exceed the prescribed limit, said the official. Officials said that continuous monitoring of social media will also be ensured, while Quick Response Teams (QRT) will be deployed at any sensitive location, and the police will keep a close watch on anti-social elements. Earlier, Additional Police Commissioner Shivhari Mina and the DM inspected Markandeya Mahadev Temple on the Ganga-Gomati confluence in the Kaithi area and Kanwar Yatra routes. After taking stock of the temple and areas in its vicinity, they held a meeting with the temple's chief priest to discuss essential arrangements and reviewed the local administration's preparations. The entrance and exit routes of the temple, queue management for devotees, and the status of barricading from a security perspective were observed. The officials also reviewed preparations for maintaining cleanliness, security, roads, ghats, and drinking water arrangements. The concerned departments were directed to ensure deep water barricading, jetty installation, changing rooms, mobile toilets, and drinking water tankers at the ghats to prevent drowning.

The officials reviewed infrastructure, interacted with prisoners, and issued strict directives for improved jail management. At the Central Jail, the inspection began with a review of products made by inmates in the wooden furniture, steel, and brass units. The officials praised a gun metal statue of freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad displayed on the premises. An open gym was also inaugurated during the visit. During their round of the jail hospital, they interacted with patients to ensure access to necessary medical services. The team then visited high-security barracks, where they spoke with inmates, noted their grievances, and directed the jail superintendent to resolve the issues without delay. At the District Jail, the officials again engaged directly with inmates inside the barracks. Varanasi: A special communicable disease control campaign will be conducted from July 1-31 under the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme to prevent vector-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, chikungunya, filariasis and kala-azar. A district-level interdepartmental task force meeting was held on Wednesday at the Collectorate auditorium, to discuss the preparations for the campaign. The meeting was chaired by district magistrate Satyendra Kumar and attended by chief development officer Himanshu Nagpal. The DM gathered a detailed information from the health department and all 13 supporting departments regarding the campaign preparations and instructed them to prepare a micro-plan as soon as possible. He emphasised that any negligence by any department official will not be tolerated. The work should be executed 100% according to the micro-plan. In the communicable disease control campaign conducted in April, the city CDPO received a stern warning for the unsatisfactory work by Anganwadi workers in the urban area. All departments should focus on data feeding and monitoring. The DM instructed that there should be no waterlogging or unsanitary conditions in either urban or rural areas of the district. The municipal corporation should take immediate action in case of water accumulation or blocked drains in the city. In rural areas, the panchayati raj and rural development departments should act promptly. Anti-larvae spraying and fogging should be conducted in hotspot areas, densely populated areas, and other slum areas. He said that the communicable disease control and awareness campaign can only be successful through the coordination of all departments. Frontline workers from various departments will visit homes to provide information on the prevention of vector-borne and infectious diseases and motivate people to change their behaviour. They should inform as many people as possible about mosquito-borne diseases and how to prevent them. ASHA and Anganwadi workers should work according to the micro-plan. All departments should ensure that the micro-plan is submitted within three days to ensure the successful execution of the campaign. The food department was instructed to regularly check the quality of food items at restaurants, sweet shops, and street food vendors in the district to prevent food poisoning. The education department should organise awareness activities in all schools and educational institutions. The urban development, rural development, and panchayati raj departments should continuously carry out all necessary activities to reduce mosquito density. Sensitisation and training should be provided to all village heads, secretaries and panchayat assistants. All officers and staff should be present at all block-level meetings and training sessions. ASHA and anganwadi workers should focus on counselling during the awareness campaign. Dengue and other patients should be provided immediate treatment at the CHC and PHC levels. Chief medical officer Dr Sandeep Chaudhary said that preparations for the successful execution of the campaign began. All departments were informed about the instructions received from the govt. All reports will be fed into the e-Kavach portal, and regular review and monitoring will be conducted. The CMO also informed about the 'Stop Diarrhea Control Campaign', which will run for two months alongside the communicable disease control month campaign.

Varanasi: District magistrate Satyendra Kumar instructed chief medical officer to issue final warning to block programme manager of Kashi Vidyapeeth, selected under the National Health Mission, for his long absence. Additionally, he directed the CMO to take action against 27 contractual medical officers who left work without permission. The DM held a monthly review meeting of the district health committee governing body on Wednesday in the presence of chief development officer Himanshu Nagpal. He said to encourage vaccination of pregnant women and children under regular immunisation, resistant families should be motivated and support be sought of influential individuals, public representatives and local institutions. A special campaign should be conducted in areas where individuals were found affected by measles and rubella, directed the DM, along with instructions for vaccination and other necessary actions. Kumar instructed 100% payment be ensured to all beneficiaries and ASHA workers under the Janani Suraksha Yojana. ANMs of health sub-centres where deliveries are not conducted, and where community health officers are working, should be given responsibility for vacant sub-centres. The CDO gathered information about weighing machines and other equipment available with Anganwadi workers on health, hygiene and Nutrition Day be conducted in rural and urban areas. He instructed all medical officers in charge to ensure availability of necessary equipment. Additionally, programmes conducted under the National Health Mission, including the national routine immunisation programme, were reviewed. He shared details about work done to operate a dialysis unit at SSPG divisional district hospital in Kabir Chaura. Chief medical superintendents of all govt hospitals, ACMOs, deputy CMOs, DPO ICDS, DPM, divisional DPM, DHEIO, along with representatives from WHO and UNICEF, other departmental officers and health workers were present.

Varanasi: Before the annual mega plantation drive begins on Jul 1, with a target of planting 16.97 lakh saplings in the district during monsoon, all departments have been asked to focus on finalising strategy for post-plantation survival. One of the major components of this strategy will be providing saplings of fruit trees to farmers and students to encourage them to plant and nurture the saplings on their land. While discussing plans for success of the proposed plantation drive with officials of all departments concerned at a meeting on Wednesday, district magistrate Satyendra Kumar assigned the task to district plantation committee, district environment committee and district Ganga committee to keep focus on ensuring post-plantation survival, as it will serve the actual purpose of the drive. After divisional forest officer Swati informed the DM that the department's nursery currently has more than 30 lakh saplings against the district target of planting 19,97,520 saplings under Plantation Drive 2025 in monsoon of 2025, the DM instructed all departments to provide at the earliest their sapling demand letters according to their respective targets to the forest department office.
