Saudi Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka Unveils Cultural Exchange Program
The Saudi Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka has unveiled its cultural exchange program amid a growing number of visitors that surpassed a million since April, according to the Saudi Press Agency. Cultural Exchange Program The cultural program seeks to provide various opportunities for professional and personal development among staff from participating pavilions. The program also unleashes new horizons for sharing the Kingdom's rich cultural heritage and global influence with a new group of team members. Crucially, the inaugural phase consists of 13 Saudi staff members distributed across five international pavilions. Meanwhile, 15 visiting international staff members will spend the next three months rotating in key roles within the Saudi pavilion. Moreover, the program is expected to include additional participants in subsequent rounds. Through an interactive module, the program will provide visiting international staff with a comprehensive on-site induction training on Saudi culture. The training features significant topics related to occupational health and safety, an overview of the pavilion's operational objectives, as well as specialized site-specific training, such as visitor experience management. Saudi Pavilion The pavilion, designed by Foster + Partners, features the Kingdom's unparalleled heritage and cultural aspects. Being the second largest pavilion after Japan, the Saudi pavilion boasts more than 700 events, such as dance shows and live performances. Through interactive events, the pavilion highlights the Kingdom's transformative journey and its technological breakthroughs in line with the Saudi Vision 2030. Strong Saudi-Japanese Relations 'As we move towards reaching the next million, the pavilion remains committed to inspiring visitors to learn about Saudi Arabia's achievements, and we look forward to deepening impact and welcoming the world,' said Ghazi Faisal Binzagr, Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to Japan and Commissioner General of the Saudi Arabia Pavilion. The Cultural Week involves the participation of the Saudi Heritage Commission; Royal Institute of Traditional Arts (Wrth); Prince Mohammed bin Salman Global Center for Arabic Calligraphy; King Abdulaziz Foundation (Darah); and Saudi Artisanal Company, which offer a diverse range of interactive activities and live shows. During the Cultural Week, Wrth, in collaboration with Saudi Artisanal Company, hosts an exhibition for traditional Saudi crafts, displaying live demonstrations of palm frond weaving, Sadu weaving, and clay pot making by artisans from both countries. It also features a traditional Saudi majlis, where the Kingdom's hospitality is demonstrated through the signature Saudi coffee and dates, alongside a joint musical performance. Furthermore, Wrth showcases a range of products that combine Saudi and Japanese traditional crafts, including Kimono embroidery and Bisht weaving. GCC – Japan negotiations make progress in sealing free trade agreement
Saudi Gazette report TOKYO — The second round of negotiations for the Free Trade Agreement between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Japan wrapped up in the Japanese capital Tokyo on Friday. The negotiations took place from June 30 to July 4, have been instrumental in working out major provisions of a free trade agreement between the two sides in the near future. A government delegation led by the General Authority of Foreign Trade attended the negotiations. The discussions covered several topics, including goods, technical barriers, terms of services, financial and telecommunications services, movement of natural persons, intellectual property, dispute settlement, general provisions, rules of origin, and trade facilitation. During this round, proposed texts were reviewed by both the Gulf and Japanese sides, with a focus on exploring trade opportunities, fostering trust and partnership, and identifying areas of cooperation and coordination. These efforts pave the way toward reaching a comprehensive final agreement in the upcoming rounds. Deputy Governor of the General Authority for International Organizations and Agreements and Head of the Saudi Negotiating Team Farid Al-Asali said that the discussions addressed several topics of mutual importance. He expressed optimism about completing the remaining negotiation rounds and reaching an ambitious agreement that provides preferential access to goods and services. This, he said, would help increase the volume of trade between the two sides, reflect the depth of economic ties, reinforce investment cooperation, and support the Kingdom's Vision 2030. During a meeting with the Saudi Ambassador to Japan Dr. Ghazi Binzagr, Al-Asali emphasized that the free trade negotiations with Japan align with the Kingdom's commitment—alongside other GCC countries—to strengthening trade relations with Japan and advancing the goals of the Saudi-Japanese Vision 2030. The Saudi delegation, headed by the General Authority of Foreign Trade, includes representatives from the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Ministry of Investment, Ministry of Economy and Planning, Saudi Food and Drug Authority, Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, Saudi Export Development Authority, Communications, Space and Technology Commission, Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, and the Saudi Central Bank. The General Authority of Foreign Trade works to enhance the Kingdom's international trade gains, increase its international presence, and its effective participation in a number of international organizations, to ensure the achievement of common goals and sustainable development.

The two countries established diplomatic relations on June 7, 1955, laying the foundation for a long-term partnership that has evolved over the decades into a multifaceted alliance enhancing cultural exchange and diplomatic cooperation. This partnership has also had a significant economic impact on both nations. In February 2025, Saudi Arabia and Japan signed a memorandum to establish a Strategic Partnership Council. In this context, Saudi Ambassador to Japan and Commissioner General of the Saudi Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka Dr. Ghazi Faisal Binzagr said that Saudi-Japanese relations have grown and strengthened over the past 70 years. 'The relations go beyond a mere economic partnership to reflect the depth and diversity of our ties. Today, we build on the strength of the past and harness the momentum of the present to jointly shape a new vision for the future,' the ambassador said. 'With Expo 2025 taking place in Osaka and Saudi Arabia hosting Expo 2030 in Riyadh, our two countries stand at the forefront of global exchange, showcasing the latest innovations and sustainable technologies, and contributing to shaping an inclusive future for all.' The Saudi Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka hosts hundreds of business events aimed at strengthening trade and investment relations between the Kingdom and Japan. These include presentations led by the Ministries of Investment and Commerce, as well as events highlighting the trade and investment opportunities offered by Saudi Vision 2030. Trade volume between the two countries has grown significantly over the past decade, rising from $33.4 billion to over $41 billion currently. The Saudi Pavilion aims to increase the number of Japanese visitors to the Kingdom, targeting 30,000 annual visitors before Expo 2030 Riyadh. This is part of the comprehensive Saudi-Japan Vision 2030 strategy, which includes more than 80 projects across nine sectors: culture, food and agricultural security, media and entertainment, healthcare, advanced infrastructure, finance and investment, competitive industries, energy, small and medium enterprises, sports, and education. Cultural exchange between the two countries has flourished, highlighted by Saudi Arabia's role in bringing Japanese culture to the Middle East through local manga studios, whose works will be showcased at the Saudi Pavilion in August. The Saudi Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka offers more than 700 diverse and engaging events, including daily shows and live performing arts. Since the Expo opened in April 2025, it has attracted over 500,000 visitors. On September 23, it is expected to host a variety of events and presentations in celebration of Saudi National Day.
