Guernsey charity provides balance bikes for children over summer
Free balance bikes will be offered in local Guernsey parks for children during the summer holiday as part of a trial scheme, a health charity has Health Improvement Commission (HIC) said providing the bikes for public use would make it "easier and more accessible" for children to "practise and enjoy cycling in a safe environment".Balance bikes are designed without pedals to allow children to focus on balancing and steering, the charity Travel officer Amy Woollaston said it aimed to "get more people more active more often". She said: "Balance bikes are a fantastic way for kids to develop the balance and coordination skills needed to ride a pedal bike. "If everyone gets the opportunity to learn to ride when they are young, then we have a better chance of more people choosing cycling for their everyday journeys once they are adults."HIC said helmets would be provided at the locations of Saumarez and Cambridge Parks until the end of summer.
