Oman, Tunisia hold political talks
TUNIS: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, on Wednesday held political consultations with Mohamed Ali Nafti, Tunisia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, at the Tunisian Foreign Ministry headquarters. The meeting comes within the framework of Sayyid Badr's official visit to Tunisia. The two ministers reviewed the long-standing bilateral relations between Oman and Tunisia, characterised by stability, harmony and multifaceted cooperation. They emphasised the fraternal ties between both nations and explored avenues to enhance political, economic and cultural collaboration, including knowledge exchange across scientific and professional fields. Discussions focused on strengthening investment opportunities, with both sides urging private sector companies and investment authorities to expand partnerships and boost trade exchange for mutual economic benefit. The ministers also addressed regional and international issues of common concern, stressing continued coordination in multilateral forums and support for peaceful solutions to current challenges to promote regional security and stability. Key sectors identified for enhanced cooperation included trade, transportation, tourism, renewable energy, industry, technology, food security and pharmaceutical manufacturing. The ministers emphasised translating these opportunities into tangible outcomes for both nations. Oman Egypt's supports move to achieve peace
CAIRO: The 16th session of the Omani-Egyptian Joint Committee at the level of the foreign ministers of the two countries was held in Cairo on Tuesday. The Omani side was headed by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, while the Egyptian side was headed by Dr Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt. Speaking at the opening session, Sayyid Badr expressed his deep thanks and appreciation to Egypt for the warm welcome and generous hospitality, emphasising strong relations between Oman and Egypt. He said, 'This session of the Omani-Egyptian Joint Committee represents a new and blessed addition to the positive cooperation between us and a contribution to consolidating our bonds. Today, we enjoy the fruits of these relations for the good and benefit of our two brotherly peoples.' In his speech, Sayyid Badr called for activating the role of the Omani-Egyptian Business Council and the private sector, and for focusing attention on emerging projects, digitisation and innovation, stressing that 'this will enhance the sustainability of the economy and keep pace with global changes.' Regarding the regional issues, Sayyid Badr affirmed the Sultanate of Oman's full support for Egypt's efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, emphasising its categorical rejection of plans to displace the Palestinian people and its full support for the Arab plan for the reconstruction of Gaza. He also affirmed the Sultanate of Oman's firm stance in supporting the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law and the Arab Peace Initiative. Sayyid Badr said that the Arab national security is indivisible, affirming the Sultanate of Oman's support for Egypt's rights to the waters of the Nile River, based on the rules of international law and the principle of fair and equitable use, in a manner that enhances opportunities for cooperation based on understanding and peaceful solutions. Sayyid Badr affirmed that the Sultanate of Oman is committed to permanently contributing to establishing stability and protecting the peoples of the region from all that would hamper their progress towards development. He underscored the importance of resuming efforts aimed at reaching a just and lasting agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue, based on the rules of international law and the Non-Proliferation Treaty, and avoiding imposing solutions by force, which only brings destruction and destabilises peoples. He emphasised that dialogue and negotiation remain the only way to resolve disputes and contain risks. The session witnessed the signing of several memoranda of understanding and executive programmes in the areas of investment, labour, training, media, food safety, endowments, mineral wealth and human capital development. The minutes of the 16th session of the Omani-Egyptian Joint Committee were also signed. At the end of the session, both sides affirmed the importance of continuing coordination and consultation in various fields, strengthening the Omani-Egyptian partnership to benefit both countries and their peoples and contributing to the consolidation of security, stability and development in the region. — ONA

Oman continues diplomatic efforts to defuse Iran-Israel conflict
MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman continues its relentless diplomatic efforts to contain the unprecedented escalation resulting from Israel's military aggression against Iran, which has ignited the current regional tensions. Oman has reaffirmed its firm stance rejecting military escalation and violations of state sovereignty, emphasising that the only way to resolve the crisis lies in a serious return to the diplomatic path to reach a just agreement and save the region from a perilous abyss with unpredictable consequences that could extend worldwide. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, held phone calls with his Russian and Chinese counterparts as part of a series of communications with various Arab and friendly nations. The discussions addressed the urgent need for an immediate cessation of hostilities, stressing that Israel is the aggressor in violation of the United Nations Charter and the party responsible for undermining peace efforts, including US-Iranian negotiations aimed at preventing nuclear proliferation. The ministers agreed that a military solution is futile and that achieving an early ceasefire would facilitate a return to the negotiating table to address the nuclear issue in a manner that ensures stability and peace for all. During the call, the Foreign Minister and his Russian counterpart agreed that this unprecedented escalation violates the UN Charter, renewing their call for an immediate halt to these attacks, as well as refraining from targeting nuclear facilities to prevent the risks of nuclear radiation leaks. The Russian minister expressed his country's deep appreciation for Oman's mediation efforts, reaffirming the Russian Federation's support for negotiations, diplomatic pathways and political solutions, which are crucial for maintaining international peace and security. On the other hand, the Chinese Foreign Minister, emphasised during the phone call with Sayyid Badr that the nuclear issue cannot be resolved outside diplomatic efforts, stressing that Israel's attacks on Iranian territory constitute a clear and blatant violation of the UN Charter and principles of international law. He also expressed alignment with Oman's position and commended Oman's tireless efforts for peace and facilitating negotiations. BOX Story 245 Omanis repatriated from Iran, neighbouring countries In line with the Foreign Ministry's plan to facilitate the return of Omani citizens from abroad, 245 Omanis have been repatriated in the latest phase of the initiative, which included cooperation with the Sultanate of Oman's embassy in Tehran and coordination with relevant authorities to ensure their safe and seamless return. The operation, part of the second phase of the evacuation plan, also covered the return of citizens from various other countries via the Iranian city of Bandar Abbas. As part of the initiative, ten buses were arranged to transport citizens from northern regions of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the border crossing with the Republic of Turkiye. Additionally, three buses were organised to facilitate transfers to the Shalamcheh border point with the Republic of Iraq. Coordination is currently under way with concerned entities in neighbouring countries to expedite their return, the ministry affirmed. - ONA
