SEC Network schedule for Texas A&M takeover revealed

The 2024 calendar year for Texas A&M Athletics was both memorable and forgettable, depending on the sport. However, nothing matches the departure of former Aggies head baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle from the program just days after A&M fell to Tennessee in the College World Series Championship matchup, leaving to join the Texas Longhorns in an unpredictable move that only enhanced the rivalry that was renewed on the gridiron a year ago. Still, Texas A&M's championship run was by far one of the most exciting seasons in program history, and will remain in a positive light despite Schlossnagle leaving. Outside of baseball, the softball team nearly made it to the College World Series before losing to Texas in the Super Regionals, while the men's basketball team, during Buzz Williams' final year at the helm, made it back to the NCAA Tournament for a third consecutive season. Texas A&M's 2024 football team entered a new era under head coach Mike Elko, who returned to College Station after two seasons leading the Duke Blue Devils and serving as Jimbo Fisher's defensive coordinator for four seasons. Elko and his new staff were provided a muligan like every new head coach, but after building a 7-1 record despite several key injury issues, the loss of star running back Le'Veon Moss, paired with then-freshman QB Marcel Reed's issues in the pocket, were too much to overcome. Despite A&M's 1-4 finish, there were plenty of incredible moments, including the comeback win over LSU during an electric night inside a packed Kyle Field. On Friday, it was announced that Texas A&M will take over the SEC Network's schedule, an annual event that typically occurs in July. No. 1 Texas Longhorns baseball players meeting after 'most disappointing loss of season'

After what Texas baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle called "my most disappointing loss of the season," several team leaders spoke in the locker room after Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Florida Gators. The topic? Competing better. Texas catcher Ryalan Galvan, shortstop Jalin Flores, first baseman Kimble Schuessler, pitcher Dre Deplantier and right fielder Max Belyeu spoke with the team after the Longhorns dropped their fifth of the last six conference games. No. 1 (for now) Texas is now in danger of falling out of first place in the SEC with just a week left in the regular season. "We just addressed the elephant in the room," Galvan said after the game. "This was embarrassing. It is what it is. We gotta attack the upcoming week. We had a chance to clinch the SEC championship at home in front of the fans who've supported us, on Mother's Day, on Senior Day, and obviously didn't get it done. We didn't play to the standard we wanted to." Advertisement Schlossnagle agreed. "This is my most disappointing loss of the season," the first year Longhorns coach said. "Senior Day at home, playing for a [SEC regular-season] championship, and tip your cap to [Florida pitcher Aidan] King. I mean, maybe that was the reason, but we'll find out. Just really disappointed in this one." Schlossnagle benched center fielder Will Gasparino in the fifth inning. This is the second time Gasparino has been benched this week. Schlossnagle wouldn't disclose the reasoning. "Just internal," he said. "He'll be fine. He's fine. He'll be back out there Friday [at Oklahoma], for sure." 'I don't take out anger or frustration on the team. My job is to call a spade to spade. I don't like to meet with teams after games. Normally, I only meet with them when we lost a tough one or just to kind of recenter the team a little bit, but today was a little different,' Schlossnagle said. Advertisement Texas' season seemed like a runaway freight train before getting swept by Arkansas last weekend. The Longhorns, so considered the best team in the nation, was still ranked No. 1 even after the sweep to the Razorbacks. But after dropping two of three to the Gators, Texas will most assuredly fall from the top spot. The weekend will probably be most remembered for Jonah Williams Friday night antics, but there are more concerning signs. UT dropped the opener against Florida 8-2, Texas' third blowout loss of the week. The Horns stopped the bleeding in a 5-2 win on Saturday. But Sunday, the offense was MIA again. The Longhorns have scored two or fewer runs in four of their past six SEC games. 'We've got to be more competitive through the lineup. Adrian Rodriguez is out there playing with a freaking really banged up hand and he can take a swing and feel like his hand's gonna fall off and get hit a line drive to the wall in center field off great pitcher. We need more guys like that,' Schlossnagle said. Texas will finish the season with a series next weekend in Norman against the Oklahoma Sooners. Max Belyeu injury update: Texas baseball star could play against Oklahoma

Texas baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle said Wednesday he would "like" to get star outfielder Max Belyeu some at-bats during the Longhorns' pivotal three-game series against Oklahoma, which begins Thursday night. Belyeu, the reigning Big 12 Player of the Year, has been sidelined since suffering a thumb injury while making a diving catch at Missouri on March 28. The injury forced him to miss 26 games, but recent progress has the junior right fielder on the verge of returning to action. Advertisement 'He had a really good day (Tuesday),' Schlossnagle said. 'I think he's still working through some things, but he's super close, and I think the rate of progression he's had in the last week has been way faster than in the previous weeks. So we're going to get up there tonight and hit and we'll have a little hitting session (Thursday) in the morning and then, of course, BP before the game. So I think if it keeps progressing, I'd like to get him in there' Schlossnagle noted last week that Belyeu's return would depend on his pain tolerance, but emphasized the team's need for his bat as the postseason approaches. 'We need him, whether he's at the highest percentage or not,' Schlossnagle said. 'Once he gets to a certain threshold, we need to get him at-bats. I don't want his first at-bats to be in the regional or maybe even the SEC Tournament' Belyeu, who is hitting .358 with a 1.107 OPS and six home runs in 24 games this season, could also see time in right field if cleared to play. Despite initial concerns that the injury would make it difficult for him to squeeze his glove, Schlossnagle said Belyeu has been moving well in the outfield during his recovery. Texas enters the final regular-season series with a chance to clinch a share of the SEC title with a win or an Arkansas loss. Belyeu's return would provide a major boost as the Longhorns aim for a deep postseason run. Contact/Follow us @LonghornsWire on X/Twitter.
