All schemes started by PM Modi during his stint as Gujarat CM have been immensely successful: Bhupendra Patel launches annual state-wide school enrolment drive
All the public interest schemes started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his stint as the Chief Minister of Gujarat have been 'immensely successful' and the efficacy of their results is there for all to see, CM Bhupendra Patel said on Thursday as he launched the 23rd edition of the annual state-wide enrolment drive – Shala Praveshotsav and Kanya Kelavani – from Divda PM Shri School in Kadana taluka of Mahisagar district. While enrolling students to Balvatika, primary school and Class IX, and welcoming them to the school by gifting them educational kits, the CM said, 'When the PM (Modi) started the school entrance festival in 2003, the drop out rate was around 35%. This has been reduced to 0.85%, i.e. less than 1%. The state government has taken sufficient care to ensure that the children admitted to the school do not drop out of their studies.' He further said, 'The government stands by such children through the Namo Lakshmi and Namo Saraswati schemes to ensure that they do not face any inconvenience in their studies due to financial problems in their family.' Patel said the government has also taken care that the students come to school regularly. 'If a child is absent for even a day, the teachers go to their house and find out the reason behind it… if there is public participation in government schemes, everyone benefits and 100% results are obtained,' he added while appealing to the parents to be active in the School Management Committees (SMC). The CM said Gujarat is committed to 100% enrolment of children and all-round development through quality education while taking forward the annual enrolment drive started by the PM. In Ahmedabad city, Minister of State for Cooperation Jagdish Vishwakarma flagged off the drive by admitting students at Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation-run Kankaria Gujarati School Number 1 and grant-in-aid Shri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya in Maninagar. As per the data of Ahmedabad Municipal School Board, as of June 25, the total number of children admitted in Balvatika in Ahmedabad city for the year 2025-26 is 13,427, which includes 6,732 boys and 6,695 girls. The total number of new admissions in Class I is 3,406, including 1,723 boys and 1,683 girls. In addition, the total number of children who have passed out of Balvatika and got admission in Class I is 15,479, including 7,732 boys and 7,747 girls. Thus, a total of 32,312 children are included in Balvatika and Class I, including 16,187 boys and 1,6125 girls. The total number of children who have taken admission in Municipal Corporation schools from Class I till VIII from private schools is 2,941, including 1,568 boys and 1,373 girls. PM Modi had launched the Kanya Kelvani Mahotsav and Shala Praveshotsav in 2003-04 when he was the CM of the state. This year, the state government had declared that the theme of the drive would be 'Let's make Shala Praveshotsav a social festival'.

UT's Mission 100: Teachers to be held accountable for compartment cases
1 2 3 Chandigarh: Chandigarh's school education authorities have announced a tough new crackdown on poor academic performance , making it clear that accountability for compartment cases will no longer be overlooked. Under the newly launched Mission 100, teachers and principals will be directly answerable for their students' results, with consequences now firmly tied to outcomes. The department is moving beyond warnings—strict monitoring, remedial action, and performance-linked reporting are set to become the norm across government schools. Officials pointed out that government schools already have the infrastructure and qualified teachers needed to ensure student success. With no excuses left, teachers who have large numbers of compartment students will have to explain their performance, and their Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs) will be updated accordingly. School principals will also be held responsible for the overall academic results of their institutions. A detailed breakdown of board results by school, subject, and area is being prepared to identify weaknesses. Schools have been ordered to conduct urgent reviews and hold extra classes to help compartment students clear their exams. Parent-teacher meetings are scheduled from tomorrow for subject teachers to discuss progress and recovery plans with parents. The department also noted poor compliance with its earlier adult education directive. Teachers who have not adopted an adult learner face transfer to peripheral schools, evening shifts, and restrictions on transfer requests, with such non-compliance reflected in their ACRs. Mission 100 sets ambitious goals of 100% attendance, pass rates, and teacher accountability . It emphasises data-driven reviews through the VSK digital platform and stronger parent engagement via School Management Committees, signalling a new era of strict academic discipline in Chandigarh's government schools. Box: Pass percentage behind nat'l average This decisive action follows Chandigarh's Class 10 CBSE results, where the city recorded an 88.5% pass rate—more than 5% behind the national average of 93.66%. The gap has intensified pressure on the administration to implement reforms that produce measurable improvements. BOX- Key directions under Mission 100 Teachers and principals held accountable for compartment cases; ACRs updated accordingly School-wise, subject-wise, and area-wise analysis of board results underway Parent-teacher meetings from tomorrow to plan remedial action for compartment students Mandatory extra classes for students with compartments to ensure success in re-exams Teachers must adopt at least one adult learner; penalties for non-compliance Monthly performance reviews via the VSK digital platform Strengthened communication between parents and schools through School Management Committees

DEEP initiative shows spectacular result in Class 12 examinations in Nagapattinam district
Through coordinated efforts by the School Education Department and the district administration under the District Educational Excellence Programme (DEEP), Nagapattinam district has recorded a significant improvement in Class 12 public examination results, climbing from 37th to 11th place in the State rankings — out of 38 districts in Tamil Nadu. The district's overall pass percentage rose from 91.19 in 2023–24 (37th rank) to 96.03 in 2024–25 (11th rank), marking one of the most notable year-on-year improvements in recent years. The district was previously ranked 33rd in 2022–23 with a pass percentage of 90.68 and 28th in 2021–22 with 92.31. Chief Educational Officer M.K.C. Subhashini attributed the progress to a sustained and joint effort. 'Several government school teachers and headmasters dedicated themselves selflessly to support students, especially from marginalised backgrounds.' she said. A major component of the success was 'Project 100', a special initiative under DEEP, which identified 30 consistently low-performing schools over the past three years. In these schools, meetings were held with all stakeholders — including teachers, School Management Committees, panchayat presidents, and village administrative officers — to trace long absentees and give them focused attention. Unique approach While all districts in Tamil Nadu distributed minimum learning materials (MLMs), Nagapattinam adopted a more focused and differentiated strategy for extremely weak students. The district handpicked its best subject teachers to author custom MLM content, forming dedicated WhatsApp groups for all 13 subjects to coordinate efforts. What set Nagapattinam apart was its deliberate simplification of these materials —compressing them further than standard MLMs — to ease anxiety among struggling students. 'We observed that bulky revision notes created fear in weaker students. So we gave them extremely concise, focused notes and repeatedly tested them on just that. This reduced their stress and boosted confidence,' said a government school teacher. The MLM authors collaborated directly with school subject teachers through online meetings to refine content and address doubts. Repeated revision, doubt clearance, and subject-specific mentoring were prioritised for these learners, especially in the final weeks leading to the exam. From last year June onwards, government schools implemented daily 15–25 mark tests and monthly assessments to build writing practice and overcome exam fear. 'By the time students faced the final exam, they were confident and well-prepared,' she added.
