Rescue plan set to see Dumbarton reformed as newco after liquidation

One of the original founding members of the Scottish League in 1890 the Sons plunged into administration in November. Hopes of exiting administration via a creditors voluntary agreement fell victim to time constraints, with concerns that a deal would be incomplete before the new season. Read more: A progress report by administrators Quantuma has now confirmed that the club formed in 1872 will now be dissolved and replaced by Dumbarton Football Club 1872 Ltd, a new company wholly owned by Canadian businessman Mario Lapointe. Owner of an electronic manufacturing service provider in Quebec sports fan and part-time musician Lapointe stepped into the breach after ill health forced the collapse of a deal with Oxford based Gareth Phillips. Docked 15 points after running out of money at the end of last year Dumbarton finished bottom of League One and were relegated. And while the oldco which retained the club's league share will now ceasing to exist the report states that the newco will be eligible to take its place in League Two after receiving a 'formal waiver' from the board of the SPFL. 'The proposed exit route (from administration) is now dissolution,' said the update. 'The administrators will seek approval from the creditors to this variation via a decision procedure usig the consent process and, assuming agreement is obtained, will file a notice of dissolution. 'A funding requirement of circa £140,000 was highlighted for the team to complete the season. This funding requirement increases to c. £200k when carried through to the end of June 2025. 'The shortfall has been funded by £118,384 raised by fans and the receipt of a £30,000 non refundable commitment fee which will be discussed further below. The balance of the shortfall will be met from the sale consideration.' Hopes of a rescue plan for the Sons suffered a set back in April when Phillips' Pendragon Group Limited have ended their interest in buying the club due to health issues and forfeited the non-refundable deposit paid. The joint administrators turned to other potential bidders, running up eye-watering costs of £446,700 plus VAT for the six months leading up to since May 17. The cost of legal advisors Addleshaw Goddard have yet to be made public.

I won the title with Celtic but it was strange and there's one silly question that really riles me

The journeyman was one of various names who passed through Parkhead during the years without Rangers in the top-flight Colin Kazim-Richards admits it's only now that he looks back and pinches himself at winning a title with Celtic. The journeyman striker - who played for a staggering EIGHTEEN clubs throughout his career - spent six months on loan at Parkhead in 2016. ‌ Kazim-Richards only managed 13 appearances under Ronny Deila but did help the Hoops to five-in-a-row, scoring twice. ‌ The ex-Turkey international confessed it was an odd time in Glasgow, during a season where Celts suffered a shocking Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Championship Rangers. But now he's retired, the 38-year-old is proud to have played a small part in winning the Scottish Premiership. He told BetIdeas: "For me, my time there was a bit strange. I think Celtic was going through a transitional period in 2016. "Still, to come away with the title, obviously, that's always brilliant, but it was also expected because Rangers had been booted out of the league. "Now, looking back at it, in hindsight, it's 'I've won the Scottish League with Celtic,' and when you talk about iconic football clubs and iconic jerseys, Celtic's is right up there on a global level. "I've been able to wear the hoops, the green and white. Amazing. I just think at that time, for many different reasons, it wasn't as enjoyable as it should have been. ‌ "I would like to say, the fans are top up there. There was other stuff that was going on within the club, so it didn't really make it that enjoyable for me. "Not having Rangers in the league, we were expected to win the league. That's not being disrespectful to the other teams that we were competing against, it's just a fact. ‌ "At the same time, to be able to score the goals – me and Patrick Roberts scored the goals in a decisive game that guaranteed us the league. It's amazing to be in the Hoops history books." Meanwhile, the ex-Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Feyenoord star admits he's fed up answering questions on whether Celtic would become a force in England. He said: "I never understood that question because that's like asking if MK Dons got in the Premier League, and this is MK Dons, a club not even in the same stratosphere of Celtic. It's like asking if they would be able to compete. ‌ "Of course any team could compete because you're getting funded, right? You're getting all that money and then, with Celtic's fan base and their history and everything, they're going to have no problems adapting to the Premier League. "If Celtic came into the Premier League next season with their current squad, are they going to be able to compete? Maybe not, but that's not going to be the squad that they have for the opening game. "They would go out and spend money, and they would be a seriously appealing club to a lot of players, because it's an iconic club. They would be able to compete, no problem at all. They would hold their own. "Give Celtic a Premier League budget and then ask the question. I think it's one of the most stupid debates of all time, a hypothetical debate. "It's a really silly question that everybody keeps asking, but the answer is obvious. Celtic could compete with anyone with Premier League money."

Hearts mourn death of Dave Clunie

Former Hearts defender, Dave Clunie, has died aged 77. The right-back, who could also operate in midfield or as a sweeper, made 354 appearances between 1964 and 1977. Edinburgh-born Clunie made his first team debut in May 1966. He twice represented the Scottish under-23 side and appeared once for the Scottish League. Clunie was in the Hearts squad which reached the Texaco Cup Final but he missed the double-header against Wolverhampton Wanderers. The player also helped the team reach the Scottish Cup Final in 1976, but due to injury, he missed the tie against Rangers. Hearts lost but qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup and he played against Lokomotive Leipzig and Hamburger SV. He joined St Johnstone and played one season before retiring in May 1978. ‘A league of passion': José Mourinho open to managing Rangers or Celtic

José Mourinho, the Fenerbahce head coach, has not ruled out managing Rangers or Celtic. The 62-year-old is preparing for Thursday's Europa League last-16 first leg in Istanbul against Rangers, who have Barry Ferguson in interim charge after the sacking of Philippe Clement. Mourinho, whose Porto side beat Celtic after extra time in the 2003 Uefa Cup final to secure his first European trophy, took some of his coaching badges in Ayrshire in the 1990s. Asked whether coaching in Glasgow appealed to him, he said: 'In this moment, no, because I have a job that motivates me and a job that demands loyalty. But why not in the future? People can say that the Scottish League is a league of two teams, but it's a league of passion. 'For me, passion in football is everything. For me, to play in empty stadiums, to play in competitions where there is not that fire of the passion doesn't make any sense. Celtic and Rangers, they are big clubs with big fanbases, with big emotions, big responsibilities, big expectations. Why not? 'But in this moment, I have a job. Celtic has a fantastic coach like Brendan [Rodgers]. Rangers has Ferguson now, so full respect for them and I'm not searching for a new job.' Clement was in charge of Rangers when the last-16 draw was made and remarked that he was not a fan of Mourinho's style of play. On hearing the Belgian's name in a question, Mourinho said: 'I'm not going to comment on … what's his name? Philippe Clement. I'm not going to answer.' He praised Ferguson, pointing to the 'emotional connection' between the former Rangers midfielder and the club. 'I think it's going to be much more difficult with him as a coach than with the previous coach,' Mourinho said. 'Because the previous coach was more worried about philosophy than on the pitch. It's on the pitch that you win matches, it's not with philosophy. For sure, Ferguson will be much more pragmatic, much more objective.' Mourinho has had many an encounter with grateful Rangers fans since preventing Celtic from winning a European trophy 22 years ago. He said: ''In London, especially in London, or in the south of Portugal in the summertime, it's true, some Rangers fans have come to me. Of course, for me, it was a big final. It was my first European final. Celtic and Rangers are two big clubs. Incredible history also in Europe. And I have lots of respect. Part of my formation was even in Scotland. I have so many Scottish friends from both colours, the green and the blue.'
