2am operation: Thieves target truck transporting Hayabusa bikes, flee with mirrors & batteries in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A group of thieves recently targeted a truck transporting motorcycles from Haryana. Their primary aim was to steal a Suzuki Hayabusa, but when unsuccessful, they resorted to taking its mirrors, batteries, and key set. The perpetrators also made off with the truck driver's mobile phone and money. Nanda Lal, 45, a resident of Dungarpur in Rajasthan, is working as a truck driver for a transport company. He was assigned to transport Suzuki Hayabusa bikes from Haryana to two motor vehicle dealer godowns: one is Apple Auto Agency in Banashankari and another Aryan Auto Agency in Bidarahalli. Accordingly, he loaded the bikes in the truck and left Haryana on June 13. He came to Bengaluru on the evening of June 22 and delivered the bikes to Apple Auto Agency. When he was heading to Bidarahalli, he lost his way near East Point Hospital in Virgonagar. As it was 2am, there were hardly any people on the road. He parked the vehicle on the roadside, left the key in the truck and went to the hospital premises to get directions to Bidarahalli. The miscreants drove away with the truck before Nanda walked out of the hospital a few minutes later. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cuối cùng, chơi miễn phí game chiến thuật hay nhất 2025! Nanda searched for the truck in the surrounding area, in vain. He managed to reach Aryan Auto Agency in the early hours of June 23. He met agency employee Jagadish and informed him about the incident. He borrowed Jagadish's phone and informed the truck owner. He tracked the location of the truck to Gundur village near Hoskote with the help of GPS. Nanda and Jagadish rushed to a playground in Gundur. They found the miscreants had attempted to steal a bike from the container but failed to unload it. They damaged both sides of the bike and the silencer apart from stealing the mirrors, batteries, and the key set. They also stole the driver's phone and Rs 3,000 from his wallet. A case was registered under BNS section 303 (theft) at Avalahally police station. Police are analysing the CCTV footage of the roads through which the miscreants drove the truck to Gundur. "We have got some clues and efforts are on to nab them. We suspect the miscreants must have known about the truck driver carrying the bikes. The bike's starting price is over Rs 15 lakh," an officer said.

OCW is supplying water at 2-metre pressure, required force 12–16 metres

1 2 Nagpur: Even as residents across Nagpur continue to suffer from dismal water supply — with pressure as low as 1 to 2 metres in several areas as against required 12–16 metres — Orange City Water Pvt Ltd (OCW) reportedly skipped a high-level review meeting chaired by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis recently. The firm's no-show, despite a formal invite from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation's (NMC) water works department, has further angered senior leadership and is being seen as an act of defiance. TOI earlier reported that Fadnavis directed NMC to begin the process to terminate OCW's contract. A senior civic official confirmed that the order is now being legally vetted to ensure it stands if challenge. "This time, the termination is being done formally and our legal team is involved to avoid any procedural flaws," the official said. Union minister Nitin Gadkari, present at Sunday's meeting, came down heavily on OCW's longstanding failures, particularly its refusal to increase water pressure. "OCW is supplying water at barely 1–2 metres pressure in many areas. The OCW claims pipelines will burst if pressure is raised to the required 12–16 metres. This only shows OCW's failure to upgrade infrastructure or maintain it," said an official quoting Gadkari. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cuối cùng, chơi miễn phí game chiến thuật hay nhất 2025! Sea of Conquest Phát ngay Undo Despite operating Nagpur's 24x7 water supply scheme for over a decade, the OCW failed to address the persistent problem of low pressure and uneven supply. Large parts of North and East Nagpur continue to suffer, with water being supplied for just 2–3 hours daily. Many localities remain dependent on water tankers. NMC had asked OCW to convert low-pressure "red zones" into "green zones" by fixing leakages, removing illegal connections, and deploying real-time pressure monitoring systems. However, there has been negligible progress. OCW's absence from the CM's review meet has only hardened the administration's stance. "The OCW was informed and expected to attend. Absence of anyone from the OCW at this crucial juncture is unacceptable and only justifies the need for its removal," said another senior official. Superintending engineer (water works) Shweta Banerjee confirmed that OCW officials were invited for the meeting, but none was present. OCW officials were not available for comments. Notably, Nagpur receives over 750 million litres per day (MLD) from Kanhan and Pench sources, yet non-revenue water — losses due to leakages and theft — remains at over 40%, exposing deep inefficiencies in OCW's operations. With Gadkari and Fadnavis aligned on the issue and the termination process already underway, OCW's days in Nagpur appear numbered unless it delivers a swift and verifiable turnaround.

Prayagraj plans to replace old pipelines and upgrade water supply

Prayagraj: Residents of Prayagraj, long plagued by contaminated water supply, are in for some relief. The jalkal (water) department has unveiled a comprehensive plan to replace over two-decade-old, damaged pipelines, aiming to tackle the persistent issue once and for all. A budget of around Rs 30 crore has been allocated for the execution of this scheme, which is expected to begin after the monsoon season. The pipelines targeted for replacement span approximately 50 to 60 kilometres, most of which are now severely dilapidated and responsible for the contamination of water in several areas. According to jalkal general manager Kumar Gaurav, a zone-wise survey will commence soon, focusing on assessing the extent of damage and planning the replacement work accordingly. The initial survey will be carried out in prominent localities such as Preetam Nagar, Rajapur, Ashok Nagar, Allahpur, Shivkuti, Salori, Sadiabad, Daraganj, Naini, Phaphamau and Kareli. This survey is expected to be completed within 10 to 15 days. Currently, the department replaces pipelines only in response to complaints. However, the planned large-scale replacement signifies a proactive step toward providing clean and safe drinking water to the residents. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cuối cùng, chơi miễn phí game chiến thuật hay nhất 2025! Sea of Conquest Phát ngay Undo Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani has also expressed commitment to ensuring the replacement of dilapidated pipes within the current financial year. Notably, the city's drinking water infrastructure spans over 1,600 kilometres, with 125 tube wells and a daily consumption of 402 million litres of water. Around 80% of this supply comes from the city's water treatment plants. In addition to the drinking water lines, the sewer infrastructure is also set for a major revamp. During the Maha Kumbh, the movement of heavy vehicles caused extensive damage to sewer lines, resulting in frequent choking and the flow of contaminated water onto roads. The affected sewer lines, which stretch across nearly 100km, will be repaired in areas including Salori, Daraganj, Allahpur, Sadiabad and Baghada. The initiative is a significant step toward ensuring a healthier urban environment and marks a much-needed upgrade in the city's basic infrastructure. With over one lakh sewer connections currently active, the timely completion of this project is expected to bring substantial relief to the residents of Prayagraj.

End of life vehicles in delhi will be denied fuel and impounded from July 1

New Delhi: The Commission on Air Quality Management, in a joint conference on Friday, confirmed that end-of-life (EOL) vehicles would be denied fuel in Delhi from July 1. Not only that, such vehicles would be impounded on the spot and taken for scrapping. The press conference was also addressed by officials of Delhi govt's transport department and Delhi Traffic Police, who said that they had identified hotspots where most EOL vehicles still operated. The officials said that between June 1 and 23, almost 1.4 lakh vehicles were identified as EOL, while overall 8.1 lakh vehicles had been identified as such. They added that automatic number plate recognition cameras have been installed at 498 fuel stations, of which 382 serve petrol and diesel vehicles and 116, CNG. The officials, however, clarified that no action would be taken against overaged CNG vehicles. The ANPR technology enables real-time recording and tracking of vehicle data through a centralised database and access all information, including the age, of the vehicle in microseconds. "We have finally decided to resolve the longstanding problem of taking EOL vehicles off the streets," said Virinder Sharma, member, technical, CAQM. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cuối cùng, chơi miễn phí game chiến thuật hay nhất 2025! Sea of Conquest Phát ngay Undo "The matter of removing EOL vehicles on Delhi's roads was taken up in 2015 by the National Green Tribunal and later in 2018 by the Supreme Court. However, it could not be implemented because of the absence of technology like ANPR." You Can Also Check: Delhi AQI | Weather in Delhi | Bank Holidays in Delhi | Public Holidays in Delhi Sharma pointed out that EOL vehicles emit pollutants. Research studies have shown that a BS4 vehicle emits 5.5 times more emissions that a BS6 vehicle. As per the guidelines, petrol vehicles that are 15 years or older and diesel vehicles older than 10 years have reached the end of their lives. Delhi has over 80 lakh registered vehicles, and CAQM said that of this, around 62 lakh vehicles were EOL, of which 41 lakh were two-wheelers. Officials said that the different agencies, including police and the transport department, will deploy people to act against non-compliant vehicles, many of which are running on outdated and high-emission BSII and BSIII fuel norms. India currently adheres to the BSVI, or Bharat Stage VI, norm. Officials said that they had also recognised some EOL hotspots and special teams will be deputed there. "We have done a lot of publicity and also held meetings with the dealers, seeking their cooperation," said Niharika Rai, secretary-cum-commissioner, transport department. When asked about action against the EOL vehicles post-detection, she declared, "They will be impounded and scrapped." Meanwhile, Delhi Police officers said they would ensure the implementation was peaceful. They do not anticipate any law and order problem at any retail outlet. "At any fuel outlet, no law and order situation will be allowed to develop. We hope people will cooperate and voluntarily take their EOL vehicles to the scrappers," said Ajay Chaudhary, Special commissioner of police (Traffic). CAQM said that ANPR would also be installed at all 156 entry points to Delhi soon. At fuel stations, ANPR cameras would detect the EoL vehicles and announce their presence. A nodal officer would then coordinate with the enforcement team. Officials said that an adequate number of police personnel, besides PCR vans, would be posted near the fuel stations, particularly at the hotspots. "Non-compliance by fuel station operators will lead to penalties under Section 192 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. Impounding and further disposal of EOL vehicles identified at fuel stations will be in accordance with RVSF Rules and Guidelines issued by the Delhi govt's transport department, for handling end-of-life vehicles in public places of Delhi," CAQM said. The same rules will apply to five high vehicle-density cities of Gurgaon, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar and Sonipat from Nov 1, while the rule will apply to the remaining NCR districts from April 1 next year, according to CAQM. As per the pollution watchdog, the transport sector in Delhi-NCR contributes around 28% of PM2.5, 41% of sulphur dioxide and 78% of nitrogen oxide emissions to overall air pollution.

8k govt primary schools run by single teachers: Survey

1 2 3 Ranchi: More than 8,000 primary schools across the state, which account for nearly one-third of the total govt run primary cradles statewide, are operating with a single teacher, a new study released on Friday has claimed. The report, titled Single Teacher Primary Schools (STePS), was released in Manika in Latehar district. The study was carried out by Pallavi Kumari and Sarang Gaikwad for NREGA Sahayta Kendra, Manika with the support of social activist and noted economist Jean Dreze, who is also a professor at Ranchi University. The report is based on a detailed survey conducted in early 2025 by the NREGA Sahayata Kendra, Manika. The findings present a picture of the condition of single-teacher schools (STSs), particularly in underprivileged and tribal-dominated regions. Of the 55 single-teacher schools identified in Manika block, the survey covered 40. The report revealed that while each school had an average of 59 students, some had students over 100. One school in Bichlidag village was found to have as many as 144 students, all under the charge of just one teacher. The demographic composition of students is another area of concern. Around 84% of the children attending these STSs belong to scheduled caste (SC) or scheduled tribe (ST) communities. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cuối cùng, chơi miễn phí game chiến thuật hay nhất 2025! Sea of Conquest Phát ngay Undo Most of the teachers are contract-based employees, with 78% aged above 40 years, and only 15% being women. The study also recorded that only about one-third of the enrolled students were present on the day of the survey. As per the report, in 87.5% of the surveyed schools, no active teaching was observed at the time of the visit. Teachers cited excessive administrative burdens, such as the maintenance of records and the generation of APAAR (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) numbers for students, as key reasons for their inability to focus on classroom instruction. Moreover, only 17.5% of the surveyed schools had functional toilets, and the quality of midday meals was reported to be poor, with many schools failing to provide essential nutrition items such as eggs, which are mandated under government norms. The report also highlighted that no teachers have been appointed in the state since 2016, the crisis has deepened over the years. As per the report, the state had 95,897 vacant teaching posts in government schools during 2020–21. However, authorities have not issued any comments on the matter. When contacted, education secretary Uma Shankar Singh said, " The recruitment process for 26,000 teachers in the state is currently underway. Within the next three to four months, they will be appointed. The newly appointed teachers will be appointed in schools in rural and urban areas where there are shortages of teachers. "
